Once you ve finished return to Activities for the optimal control of your entertainment system Accessing device commands Each of your devices has a range of commands that you will find in device mode when using your Harmony 900 To view the commands for a device Press the Devices button on your remote s screen Press the device you want to control Use the side arrows to find the command you want to use Press the Current Activity button on your remote s screen to go back into your Activity AUN gt Fixing your inputs You can change your inputs and use commands from your remote s device mode however it s better to return to your Harmony Remote Software account to change these settings Universal Electronics Exhibit 2036 Page 30 Universal Remote Control v Universal Electronics Trial No IPR2014 01106 31 Personalizing Your Remote You can personalize your Harmony 900 to make it work the way you want The following pages will show you a few ways you can add remove or change the buttons and screen on your Harmony 900 Customize Your Buttons Customize your hard and soft buttons Hard buttons on your remote are all of the buttons that are not on the screen Most of these buttons can be changed to work the way you want them to e For example you may not use the Record button on your remote and would rather have the Aspect command appear in its place You can change this in y

Universal Electronics Exhibit 2036 Page 6 Universal Remote Control v Universal Electronics Trial No IPR2014 01106 How your RF System works Your RF System allows you to control devices that are behind closed doors Remote controls generally use infrared IR commands to communicate with your devices These IR commands need a direct line of sight between the remote and the device to work Your Harmony 900 also sends radio frequency RF signals like the ones used for cordless phones that can go through objects such as a closed cabinet door Your RF system converts these signals into IR commands that reach the devices and perform the requested action such as turning on your TV or playing your DVD Here s how it works e You press Watch TV on your Harmony 900 to start watching the news e The RF signals are sent from your Harmony 900 through your cabinet door e The Harmony 900 RF System converts the signals into IR commands e The IR commands reach your TV and your cable box e Your TV and cable box turn on T ow a ow N o e s Mini Blaster in eS i Ili Cab Ae te Blaster Picks up RF signals from remote l and converts to IR signals Mini Blaster Relays IR signals to any device in range Cabinet RF signals Communicates through cabinet doors Remote lt p Sends RF signals to RF System Universal Electronic

When you disconnect the remote from your computer for the first time a tutorial will appear to highlight some of the features of your Harmony 900 To begin testing your remote 1 Ensure all the devices in your entertainment system are turned off 2 Disconnect the USB cable from your remote 3 Follow the instructions displayed on the remote s screen 4 Goto your entertainment system and try each of your Activities Testing your setup Starting an Activity Look for these things in particular e Did all of your devices for that Activity turn on e Do you hear the correct sound e If the Activity includes your TV do you see the correct picture Testing your setup Switching between Activities Look for these things in particular e Are all devices needed for this new Activity on Did devices you selected to turn off in this Activity turn off Do you hear the correct Sound If the Activity includes your TV do you see the correct picture If an Activity doesn t start correctly press the Help button on the remote and the on remote help will get you back in sync After you finish testing your Activities be sure to re test any for which you had to use the Help Universal Electronics Exhibit 2036 Page 18 Universal Remote Control v Universal Electronics Trial No IPR2014 01106 5 RF Controls Behind Closed Doors Why do need these pieces What to expect when setting up your RF System Your RF System extends

6. commands may not be recognized Maybe you have a very rare device Or a new one Although we update our device list regularly there are always new devices in the market To remedy this you can teach your Harmony how to control this device by using the device s Original remote 900 new commands using your old remote With the Learn IR feature of the Harmony 900 and the Harmony Remote Software you can use your device s original remote to teach your Harmony 900 You should only need to use this feature when our device list doesn t have your device listed or there s a button you want to use that s missing from To use the Harmony 900 s learning feature go to the Harmony Remote Software 1 Select the Devices tab 2 Select Learn IR located next to the device you want to control 3 Find the command you want to learn in the list If it doesn t appear you need to create a new command See Naming a new command learned for more details 5 10 cm 2 5 j m Ea Se Universal Electronics Exhibit 2036 Page 35 Universal Remote Control v Universal Electronics Trial No IPR2014 01106 Naming anew command your remote learned When you teach your Harmony a new command you need to give the command a name This way you can refer to the command by name in various locations in the Harmony Remote Software We recommend you use the default names listed
7. on the Learn IR page By using the default names you minimize the chance of a button being assigned incorrectly on the Harmony 900 Naming conventions When naming a command for which there is no default name on the Learn IR page use the following naming conventions to make button assignment easier Don t use spaces or special characters such as amp or in the name e Capitalize the start of words for example NextDisc ModeDigital Start the command name with its main function for example VolumeRearUp VolumeRearDown VolumeFrontUp This helps group related commands in lists e Start infrared commands that select inputs for example on a stereo receiver with the prefix Input e Don t name the input based on what you ve connected to your device rather name it based on what it s called on the front of the device or on the remote control for example InputAux InputVideoT InputTape InputDVD 36 Universal Electronics Exhibit 2036 Page 36 Universal Remote Control v Universal Electronics Trial No IPR2014 01106 Making More Changes Here are a few more ways you can make your Harmony 900 personal to you Simply make these changes directly from your Harmony 900 Turning button sounds off Your Harmony 900 will beep when you press a button your remote s screen You can turn this option off To turn the sound on or off from your Harmony 900 s screen 1 Press Options gt Sound 2
8. or device troubleshoot a problem with an Activity or customize remote buttons your Harmony Remote Software account is the place to start Connecting your Harmony 900 To connect your Harmony 900 to your computer use the USB cable provided 1 Remove your Harmony 900 from the charging station 2 Connect the smaller end of the cable to the USB port on your remote 3 Connect the wider end of the USB cable to a USB port on your computer Universal Electronics Exhibit 2036 Page 13 Universal Remote Control v Universal Electronics Trial No IPR2014 01106 2 Setting Up the Devices you Want to Control The guided online setup asks you to enter your device information Enter the information for all the entertainment components you want to control with your Harmony 900 You should use the Device Worksheet to gather all your device information before starting the setup process 1 Select the Device Type for each of your devices 2 Select the Manufacturer for each device 3 Enter the Model numbers for each device Adding your devices When you first set up your account you will be prompted to add the devices in your entertainment system to your Harmony account To add your devices select the Devices tab in the Harmony Remote Software e To add a device click Add Device e Enter your device s manufacturer number e Enter your device s model number e Click Next e Click Add Another Device Continue this pro

10. starts an Activity for example someone walks between your Harmony 900 and the TV when you press Watch TV or you re very far away from the system when you start an Activity your Harmony 900 can become out of sync with your devices ZF M ooo A D N oo To fix the problem use the Help feature in your Harmony 900 1 On the remote press the Help button 2 Answer the questions on the Harmony 900 s screen by selecting Yes or No Based on your answers the Harmony 900 re sends the necessary commands to synchronize with your devices When you re done with this process the Harmony 900 will be in sync with your devices Before using the Help button be sure you ve addressed the cause of the problem for example remove any obstacles that could be blocking the signal between your remote and your devices Universal Electronics Exhibit 2036 Page 29 Universal Remote Control v Universal Electronics Trial No IPR2014 01106 Your Devices In some cases you may need to control a device individually You can use the device feature of the Harmony 900 to control devices one by one When you press the Device button the Harmony 900 s screen displays a list of your devices Select the device you wish to control After you select a device the Harmony 900 controls only that device You have access to all the commands for the device included in your Harmony 900 configuration

18. ave Universal Electronics Exhibit 2036 Page 15 i Universal Remote Control v Universal Electronics Trial No IPR2014 01106 Adding an Activit To set up your Activities you need to enter the information related to the Activities you will be using on your Harmony 900 The Harmony Remote Software shows you a selection of recommended Activities based on the device information you provided During the initial set up you will be walked through the steps to set up your Activities To add later In your Harmony Remote Software account select the Activities tab e To add an Activity click Add Activity e To remove an Activity click the icon for the Activity you want to remove e To modify the settings for an Activity press the Settings button for the Activity you want to modify ELEL Activity Creation Select the Activities you would like to set up Selecting devices for each of When you set up Activities the software asks questions about the function of each device For example if you set up the Watch TV Activity you re asked which device changes the channels TV or satellite cable box If you only have one device that is capable of doing something then the software skips the question For example if you only have one TV the software doesn t ask you which device displays video If the device has more than one input the software asks you which input the device needs to be set If you re

20. can bounce off surfaces to reach their target Why not place the Blaster in your cabinet on its own and see if it can control all of your devices Devices outside of a cabinet can be controlled by your RF system Simply place your Blaster or one Mini Blaster outside the cabinet on top of the cabinet for instance in sight of the devices you want to control Universal Electronics Exhibit 2036 Page 20 Universal Remote Control v Universal Electronics Trial No IPR2014 01106 2 Assigning your devices You can control your devices with either your Harmony remote or your RF System Typically you use the Harmony remote to control devices with which you have a clear line of sight and you use the RF System to control devices that are in a closed cabinet or that span different rooms For example you would likely use your Harmony remote to control the TV because it is out in the open but you would use your RF System to control the AV receiver and the DVD player which are tucked away inside a cabinet During initial set up your remote will walk you through the steps to assign devices to your Harmony remote or RF System E Device Assignment ED 1 2 pages 7 15 Select devices you want to be controlled by your RF system Test and test again Before you being the test make sure all of your devices are off If you have closed cabinet you should also perform this test with
