EXAMPLE  To enter a code of 1203  you would press    blank     blank  blank      blank     To enable valet mode   1  Turn the ignition switch to its    ON    position or start the engine if it is not already running    2  Enter your valet disarming PIN code on the PlainV iew 2 switch    3  Continue pressing the blank button for 4 seconds  Release the button  The LED will continue to remain on for ongoing visual confirmation of valet mode     To exit valet mode and restore normal operation  1  Turn the ignition switch to its    ON    position or start the engine if it is not already running   2  Enter your valet disarming PIN code on the PlainV iew 2 switch  The LED will turn off     Remote Controlled Valet Mode    Valet mode turns off all security features and prevents A utoA rming when  for instance  having your car washed  To turn valet mode on off  press the  LevelShift button twice  then button 1  master remote  or simultaneously press the   and C agfi buttons  companion remote   T wo parking light flashes  confirm valet mode on  one flash confirms valet mode off  T he dashboard LED will glow continuously when valet mode is on  Your system remains in valet  mode until you again press this button combination to turn it off and restore normal operation  T his is a user selectable feature and may be programmed off if  you wish to use this button combination for a different function  There is a slight security risk associated with remote controlled valet mode in that a c
3.   automatically return to its valet mode state when power is restored  there will be no alarm activation        9    Timer options    The system   s built in electronic timer can be optionally wired to provide one of several different functions  Timer duration settings can be made by your  installing Clifford Dealer or by you via the CliffN et Wizard  Ask your A uthorized Clifford Dealer for further details     Window AutoClose option    The timer can automatically close the windows upon remote arming on vehicles with an    all close    feature that raises them if the key is held in the driver s  door  a common feature on several European vehicle models      NOTE  Although this timer circuit could be wired to control power windows on non European cars that do not have  this key in the door    all close    feature  Clifford Electronics strongly recommends against this  If so wired  the timer  would force the window motors to    shut    the windows even if they were already closed  This places excessive strain    on the vehicle   s window motors  causing overheating  premature failure and even the possibility of fire  As such  if  you cannot close the windows of your vehicle by turning and holding the key in the driver   s door  do not permit the  system   s timer circuit to be wired to automatically close the windows        If your car does not have an all close feature  SmartW indows 4 is needed  In addition to automatically closing the power windows every time you arm   Smar
4.  Before engaging A utoStart  make sure the fuel tank is full     DON   Ts   e NEVER remotely start your vehicle   s engine if parked in an enclosed area that lacks sufficient ventilation   NEVER allow children access to the remote controls   NEVER engage the ShortStop or A utoStart feature if parked in an enclosed area that lacks sufficient ventilation   NEVER remotely start or use ShortStop with a person or pet in the vehicle   NEVER start with someone behind or in front of the vehicle     Diesel compatibility  T he system will activate the engine   s glowplugs for the necessary duration before starting   either via a timer delay or through a direct connection to your  vehicle   s glowplug indicator  may require optional parts and wiring      How to remotely start  shutdown the engine    Press button 4 on the master remote control or button    on the companion remote   e Two parking light flashes confirm startup initiation   e The engine and preset accessories  air conditioner  heater  etc   will start and run   e While idling  the parking lights stay on for ongoing confirmation visual confirmation     W hen idling under the control of your A vantGuard 4  you may shut down the engine by again pressing button 4  master remote  or button K   companion remote      To drive the vehicle after remote starting    1  Disarm  enter  but don   t touch the brake or transmission   2  Insert your key and turn the ignition switch all the way on   3  Press the brake  Y our vehicle will now

9.  the  basic siren wail will sound if a sensor is activated  but the Personalized Siren Sounds will play if the hood  trunk or a door is opened  See  U ser selectable features  column 1  row 3       N ot available on European models in compliance with EC 95 56    NightVision       All of the following NightV ision H eadlight A utomation features are built into your A vantGuard 4     User selecta bility  You may turn the N ightV ision features on or off whenever you wish  see U ser selectable features    While driving at dusk  The system automatically turns on the headlights   While driving at dawn  The system automatically turns off the headlights     User selectable activation threshold  The N ightV ision electronics have a preset threshold that automatically turns on the headlights at  about the same time as the public street lights turn on  If you find that your vehicle   s headlights come on significantly earlier or later than the street  lights  you may change NightV ision   s headlight activation threshold  See the U ser selectable features  column 3  row 7  to change the threshold  To  set the headlights to turn on when it is darker  select the    darker    setting  to have them turn on when it is lighter  select the    lighter    setting  The  CliffN et W izard software provides even greater incremental activation threshold control     Intelligent activation  The NightVision electronics automatically turn the headlights on or off only when necessary  For instance  if i
10.  when the system is armed  If it can be activated while armed  causing the alarm to sound  please return to your installing Clifford Dealer and have  them correct this  it only takes a couple minutes and there will be no charge to you      Optional CliffN et Wizard     amp  DataPort Interface Connector       If you opted to have the Clifford D ataPort interface connector installed with your system  you can use our CliffN et W izard software to access your system  through your W indows PC  CliffN et W izard will show you  on your PC screen  all your user programmable feature settings  You can change settings  simply by mouse clicking the graphical button for each feature  You can customize features  add or delete remote controls  change remote control button  assignments  view a chronological history of trigger and sensor activations  and much more  It   s actually fun  A nd secure  To learn more and download  this free software  go to www clifford com wizard     11    REMOTE ENGINE STARTING  DOs    e Park in an open  well ventilated area    Always engage the handbrake    Make sure you put the transmission in PARK  automatic  or NEUTRAL  manual  before shutting down the engine   Set your vehicle s air conditioner  heater and other accessories to the desired levels    Turn on your vehicle   s ventilation    recirculate    feature to warm cool the interior more efficiently    If your vehicle has a manual transmission  you must use the manual transmission SafeStart procedure    e
11. acturer of high technology vehicle security systems  O ur commitment to technological innovation  quality and reliability is clearly evident  in your Clifford system  Y et despite all its sophistication  your system is amazingly easy to use  never more difficult than a few presses of a button     Black  ax vehicle recovery  anti carjacking feature    A vantG uard 4   s Black  ax feature provides a safe and effective means of recovering your vehicle after a theft or carjacking  In a carjacking situation  the  sooner you are out of the car the better  Don   t resist or take anything with you  just get out and get away  T he instant the car door is opened  your  AvantG uard 4 takes charge  First it allows the carjacker to drive a short distance  ensuring your safety  Then it repeatedly flashes the brake lights and  continuously sounds the siren to caution nearby drivers and draw attention to your stolen vehicle  The system ignores the remote control at this point   since the carjacker most likely has it   Then when the carjacker slows for a turn or traffic  BlackJax safely shuts down the engine and prevents it from  being restarted     AvantGuard 4 assures the thief cannot restart the engine even if he were to find and remove the system control unit  Unable to restart the engine  and  with your vehicle stalled in the middle of traffic     siren wailing and lights flashing     the carjacker has no choice but to abandon your car   The same occurs  to anyone who steals your parked 
12. ansmit the same code twice  and the control unit will never accept the same code twice  Thus the code  played back by the code grabber     even the latest generation smart code grabbers     will never be accepted by your A vantGuard 4 system     Adding new remote controls    For other drivers  or to control Clifford G4 systems on your other cars with the same remote  you can buy additional remote controls from any Clifford  Dealer  or direct from the Customer Service Department of your nearest Clifford H eadquarters listed on the front cover  and program them into the  system yourself  A vantGuard 4 will respond to as many as four remote controls     NOTE  Clifford G4 systems will respond only to G4 type ACG 2 remote controls  Older Clifford ACG and non ACG  remote controls are not compatible with G4 systems     To add a new master 5 button remote control  use the A dd new master remote feature  column 1  row 1  of the U ser selectable features table  To add a new  companion 4 button remote  program each button and button combination to the specific functions noted in column 4        Automatic remote control low battery warning    If your remote control battery is low  you ll hear an unusually low pitched chirp when you remotely disarm your A vantGuard 4  Replacement batteries are  available from any A uthorized Clifford D ealer     Remote control battery replacement    Replacement of a remote control battery is fairly easy  but any A uthorized Clifford D ealer will be happy 
13. arjacker  familiar with Clifford systems could possibly engage valet mode via the remote control before the BlackJax anti carjacking feature is triggered  A Ithough this is  an unlikely scenario  you may prefer to turn off valet mode entry exit via the remote control using the U ser selectable features programming  column 2  row 3      False Alarm Prevention  amp  FACT       With FACT  False Alarm Control and T est   you ll never experience repeated false alarms  If the siren sounds  DO NOT disarm  allow it to run for the  full siren duration  Before sounding the siren a second time  the system automatically checks for another activated sensor or trigger to verify that an  intrusion isin progress  T his feature is user selectable     User  Selectable AutoLock and AutoUnLock          Some vehicles are incompatible with the AutoLock and AutoUnLock features     For your safety and that of your passengers  the doors can be set to automatically lock the instant you turn on the ignition or when the engine RPM s  reach about twice the idle speed  whichever you prefer  W hen you turn the ignition off  the doors A utoU nLock  T hese are user selectable features     How to interpret the LED status indicator    TheLED on your car   s dashboard or console will inform you of the system status              LED Condition Meaning  Off System is disarmed and in normal operating mode  i e   valet mode is off   On Valet mode is on  the vehicle may be entered without having to disarm       Flash
14. astic and even some metallic film window tinting materials will interfere with or completely block the radar  waves  A s such  it isnot unusual that the Proximity Sensor zones may need a little readjustment when you first have the system installed  In some  instances  your Clifford installer may need to try a different location for the sensor     If needed  you can adjust sensitivity of these sensor zones via your remote control as described in the following section  T o prevent falsing  system sensors  are bypassed when the engine is remotely started     Metal above or near the Proximity Sensor will have a significant impact on operation  You should not place coins        CDs  cassettes  due to the iron oxide tape  or other metallic objects above or near where the sensor is mounted     Ask your A uthorized Clifford Dealer about these optional sensors that will further enhance the security of your vehicle     m Glass Tampering Sensor  Today s thieves shatter vehicle windows with a small metal punch device that does not create any vibrations for an  impact sensor to detect  The Glass T ampering Sensor detects the sound of glass breaking  and glass tampering attempts  and will trigger the alarm     m Dual Zone OmniSensor  Uses our most advanced DSP  digital signal processing  to detect theft related impacts and vibrations  A dvanced  discrimination algorithms differentiate better than any other sensor between common environmental conditions  such as a heavy truck rolling by   a
15. asts 5 minutes or until a door is opened     On a limited number of vehicles  this feature can cause operational problem  If this is the case  this feature can be programmed off by your Clifford dealer     User selectable features    You may set many of the features to your own preferences  Once you ve changed a few settings  you ll find that programming the system is so easy that  you can even do it while driving  The system comes with all of its features preprogrammed as noted by the bold type in the T able of user selectable features  T o  change any of the settings  use the steps noted below  To restore the feature to its factory setting  just repeat the procedure     NOTE  For greater programming ease and even more system control  consider the CliffNet Wizard Windows PC    software interface  www clifford com  wizard        How to change a user selectable feature   Briefly  here   s how it will work     e You will pick a feature from the following T able of U ser Selectable Features  noting the feature   s column and row numbers     e You ll enter program mode by entering your valet disarming PIN code and pressing the   button of the dash  or console mounted  PlainV iew 2 switch until you hear a chirp     e Press the blank PlainV iew 2 switch button the same number of times as the column number  then the   button a number of  times equal to the row number     Step by step programming instructions   1  Refer to the T able of user selectable features and make note of the c

18. but thump less forcefully for the  warning zone  When done  press button 1 to reselect the primary zone  you will hear 2 chirps   then button 1 again to fully exit O mniSensor  adjustment mode  you will hear 3 chirps     4  Adjustment of Proximity Sensor  You may test the Proximity Sensor primary zone by rapidly leaning through an open window into the passenger  compartment  You will hear a siren chirp when the primary zone is triggered  T his should not occur near the window  but instead when you would be  in a position to touch the car stereo  T o change sensitivity  press and release button 2 to increasesensitivity or button 4 to decrease sensitivity  To  rapidly increase or decrease several steps  press and hold the button  For each sensitivity increase  you will hear a higher and higher pitched  confirmation chirp  For each sensitivity decrease  you will hear a lower and lower pitched confirmation chirp  Two LoudC hirps indicate minimum and  maximum settings of the 32 step range of settings  You may now press button 3 to adjust the warning zone  as noted in 4a  below   or press button 1  to fully exit the Proximity Sensor adjustment mode  you will hear 3 chirps     a  For the Proximity Sensor warning zone  press button 3  you ll hear 1 chirp   T hen use the same procedure as above  but this time bring your hands  and face to the window asa thief would to see what   s inside  T he sensitivity of the warning zone should be set so that it is triggered when your face  and ha
19. car from you at a gas station or in a parking lot  which are the most common carjacking sites   To recover your vehicle   you simply walk a block or two to your car  enter your PIN  personal identification number  code  and the system releases control of the vehicle to you     Your secret PIN code tells the system that the car is being driven by an authorized person  If you or a passenger opens and closes a car door at any point  while the engine is running  as would occur in a carjacking attempt   you must again enter your secret code     VERY IMPORTANT  The factory setting for the anti carjacking feature is OFF  Once you are familiar with the  following  we suggest you turn this feature ON  see the User selectable features section   When anti carjacking is  on  each time you begin driving you MUST enter your PIN code via the PlainView 2 switch on the dashboard or  console  unless the system is in valet mode   You may turn this feature on or off any time     IF YOU HAVE THE PAGEMATE 4 OPTION  PageMate 4   s phone in STOP command eliminates the need to  enter your PIN every time you drive  Instead  if your vehicle is stolen at gunpoint  just call your toll free PageMate 4  phone number from any touch tone phone and spell out STOP to activate the Black  ax anti  carjacking electronics        Enable  disable the anti carjacking feature    You may enable or disable the BlackJax anti carjacking feature  see U ser selectable features  or temporarily override it via PlainV iew 2 Co
