ENGINEERING COM Performance Thermal Intake Spacers Modification Procedure 1995 1999 Nissan Maxima Upper Intake Manifold Spacer Instructions to be used to allow spacer to fit on the 00 01 Nissan Maxima VQ30DEK intake manifold Disclaimer These spacers should only be installed by a qualified mechanic If you decide to do the install yourself please read everything and make sure you understand everything before beginning NWP Engineering is not responsible for the content of these instructions This write up is to be used only as a guideline to help you during the installation process Refer to the correct Factory Service Manual for the most accurate and up to date information NWP Engineering shall have absolutely no liability relating to the use non use improper use installation or removal of this product This product is not intended for use on public roads and is not DOT approved Please use common sense and ask a qualified mechanic if you have any questions Also feel free to contact us if you need help Note If you have done any port work to your manifold some minor porting on the spacers may be necessary CAUTION WEAR A SUITABLE RESPIRATOR OR DUST MASK WHEN PORTING CUTTING OR SANDING THESE SPACERS THE DUST CAN BE HAZARDOUS IF INHALED Note The Upper Intake Manifold Spacer is designed to be installed using RTV on the bottom and the stock OEM seals found on the 00 01 Maxima Upper Intake Manifold If your engine is force inducted2. above 6psi of manifold pressure it is recommended to use Permatex 1 Minute Gasket Item 25229 instead of Black RTV Tools Materials Needed Rotary Grinder i e Dremel with sanding drum or other grinding bit and cutting disc Dust Mask Safety Glasses Estimated Labor Time lt 15 minutes 1 Before any cuts are made place the Upper Intake Manifold Spacer on the lower intake manifold and get a good idea what is required to allow all the bolt holes to line up Take aclose look at Pic 1 All white hatched areas in illustration will be removed so that the bolt holes are aligned properly Pic 1 Illustration of the 95 99 Maxima Upper Intake Manifold Spacer on the 00 01 Maxima Lower Intake Manifold 2 First use an appropriate tool for cutting and cut away the hatched areas noted in Pic 2 A rotary tool with cutting disc is recommended to make a smooth cut and eliminate chances of phenolic delamination CAUTION The excess material coming off the cutting disc will be very hot CAUTION Be careful not to touch the spacer just after the cut has been made or after grinding Surface could be very hot to the touch Ka TO ALLOW ROOM FOR FUEL RAIL BOLT Pic 2 Pic 3 3 Next use a rotary tool with grinding bit to grind away the hatched areas noted in Pic 3 Only grind away just enough material to allow the bolt holes to line up A 40 to 80 grit sand paper drum or cartridge roll will work best but any stone or other grinding bit can be used EGR Exten
3. sion Spacer Installation Only applies to 2000 Maxima Intake Manifolds 2001 does not have EGR system 1 Apply a thin layer of RTV on the bottom of the large EGR Extension Spacer and firmly press it onto the bottom flange of the EGR tube as shown in Pic 4 Be sure all surfaces are clean before applying RTV 2 Install intake manifold using the two small spacers over the EGR bolts on the same level as the large EGR Extension Spacer It may be easier to apply a tiny bit of RTV to the bottom of the bolt spacers and apply them directly on the triangular EGR flange as shown in Pic 5 prior to installation of the upper intake manifold Pic 5 2009 NWP Engineering Inc All Rights Reserved
