VOL LEARN Start the engine and let the idle stabilize for about 30 seconds Touch START and wait 20 seconds to 2 minutes CMPLT should be displayed NOTE If INCMP is displayed within 2 minutes or test is not finished within 2 minutes Idle Air Volume Learning was not carried out successfully Make sure you set all of the preconditions exactly as shown in the chart above and performed steps 1 through 6 exactly as shown Rev up the engine two or three times and allow it to return to idle NOTE For additional IAVL procedure details refer to the Service Manual 22 25 PROGRAMMING UNEXPECTEDLY TERMINATED See step 27 on page 19 e The ECM has been permanently damaged and will require replacement e Perform steps A through G below CAUTION Do not start the engine with the damaged ECM installed A Turn the ignition OFF turn CONSULT II OFF and DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE TERMINAL OF THE VEHICLE BATTERY B Attach the CONSULT II print out to the repair order for future reference C Replace the damaged ECM D Reconnect the negative battery cable E If the vehicle is equipped with NATS e Some models will require registration of the NATS keys e See the appropriate TSB s or Service Manual ESM for NATS information and key registration procedures F Perform IAVL Idle Air Volume Learning on page 22 G Check the new ECM s current P N make sure it is the latest newest P N
