8. use a business class unit And It s Even Better with Color While the case for the mono chrome printer appears some what challenging the case on a low end color vs business class printer is more obvious yet Let s compare the low end CLJ CP1210 to the business class industrious CLU 4700 We now have 4 toner cartridges to com pare instead of 1 CYMK so the equation is a little more complex The CP1210 is 149 and prints in 12 ppm in monochrome and 8 ppm in color low end means lower speed print While the 31 ppm in color and monochrome CLJ 4700 is 1 349 making the difference in price 1 200 That s a lot of money right The CP1210 toner cartridges are CB540A CBO41A CB542A and CBO43A The color cartridges cost 71 99 each and should yield 1 400 pages each while the black toner cartridge is 77 99 and yields 2 200 pages accord Ing to the specifications We will take a 20 coverage to keep our apples to apples comparison or 5 Coverage per color They ll be printing the same materials on either printer it wouldn t matter this just gives us a good compart son Now we divide 77 99 by 2 200 pages for the black and get 0 0355 for the cost of each page printed slightly better than the P1505 interesting Then we divide the color cartridges at 71 99 by 1 400 pages to get 0 0514 Multiply 0 0514 x 3 color cartridges 0 1543 and add the black toner cartridge at 0 0355 and we get a cost per page of 0

12. going through the network the hardware firewalls should never need to be taken down About Firewalls Prior to turning off firewalls discuss the changes with the IT department involved Please know that turning off firewalls can leave a computer open to malicious attacks and computer viruses and are done at your own risk A firewall is essentially a filter that blocks unwanted Internet traffic from reaching the network and computers while still allowing outward communication with the Intranet Internet Most networks have multiple firewalls and the firewalls can be implemented in various forms which are listed below Internet Provider Firewall e Filters certain network activity and will prompt you e Cannot be turned off to allow or deny access to the network upon any Hardware Firewalls new or unrecognized network requests e Embedded in the network hardware e These can usually be turned off by opening the Router Web Servers program and switching off the firewall e These should not need to be disabled in Personal Firewall Operating System Embedded order for the firmware update to work e Must be turned off to perform upgrade Personal firewall Srd party Software firewalls e Protects at the computer level e Must be turned off to perform upgrade e Windows XP and Vista have an embedded firewall e Protects at the computer level that is turned on by default e A program that runs in the background of a computer Depending

14. nd on the specifications sheet We chose the higher number to get a better balance between a lower end and mid level model thus 2 000 pages Note the higher the number of pages per month the greater the cost difference thus the shorter time to break even If we compare the cost savings per month assume each unit will produce 2 000 printed pages a conservative number for the customer we arrive at a savings of 43 40 per month with the mid level model P1505 2000 pages x 0 039 78 00 P4015 2000 pages x 0 0173 34 60 Monthly savings 43 40 Add in the Cost of Service Lets now tack on service costs A P4015 needs a maintenance kit every 229 000 prints according to the service manual So in 2 years time at 2 000 prints a month the customer has printed 48 000 pages or almost 4 the maintenance kit life Meanwhile the P1505 which doesnt have a rated maintenance life may have had basic service parts replaced at this point items such as the fuser transfer roller pickup roller and separation pad The prices vary depending on whats replaced but assume a 100 service charge and parts It s a throw away unit Not many people would put 150 into a 199 unit unless they have a bunch of toner stocked on the shelf or maybe they are just really attached to the printer emotionally Instead see these low end units coupled into a service contract Under these circum stances its clearly wiser to
