COORDINATOR Statistics for the spring issue of the newsletter are 115 printed 102 mailed 3 returned Total cost 504 36 Deadline for submission to the summer issue is May 29 2010 and September 4 for the fall issue I do need someone to share their story for the summer issue and am looking for volunteers Thanks for your inputs and please encourage your groups to provide a report This is your newsletter and it is a primary means for sharing information Yours in service Tom B ALATEEN COORDINATOR S REPORT The Alateen Conference was held on June 4 6 2010 There were 20 teens present along with 13 Sponsors It was an inspiring event for me What a joy to see these teens the future of Al Anon share there experience strength and hope Many thanks for Jayne G and Lynn L for bringing their Alateens Also representing District 6 was Pat E One of our Alateens Rebekah R from Georgetown was recognized at the conference as she is about to graduate to Al Anon She and another Alateen received the book How Al Anon Works All of us in attendance were offered the opportunity to sign their books and offer them encouragement as they make their transaction to Al Anon A considerable amount of money was contributed by both groups and individual Al Anon members towards the Kristy Fund The Kristy Fund is only a District 6 fund that pays 50 of the cost to attend the Alateen Conference Thanks to all that contribute

16. d to this fund which Sheila s Story continued from Page 1 I continue to purchase the Al Anon literature because I really wanted to know more about this destructive disease I needed to know how to survive the loss how to manage my life how to move on allowed many of our teens to attend the conference Another Al Anon group in the district has offered to help pay the way for an Alateen to attend the AA International that will be held on the 4th of July weekend These are a couple of the many ways we can support our Alateens whether we have a group in our immediate location or not Thanks for your support If you are an Alateen Sponsor Chaperone Helper Driver thank you very much for your service to this vital part of the Al Anon Fellowship You are truly changing lives To all of you who formerly were involved with Alateen thank you very much for your past service and the contribution you have made To those of you who are considering to get involved in Alateen service please give it some serious thought Talk to any of the Alateen Group Sponsors or Chaperone Helper Drivers in the District and we will tell you how rewarding Alateen service is to us Please let me know if you are interested in getting involved whether 1t is financially or personally and I will help get you started Please give me a call or e mail me if you have any Alateen Sponsor questions or concerns Steve J The Al Anon program has
17. lcoholism stole away my husband s sense of responsibility commitment loyalty and moral obligation The man I married and the father of our only child was not the same person I learned to love in 1986 Alcoholism had changed his way of thinking and his priorities in life The end of my marriage was so devastating that I decided to go into therapy to deal with the emotional effects that it was causing in my life My therapist a wonderful psychiatrist who had been practicing for decades suggested that I go to Al Anon She stated that the program was very effective and had helped many of her clients deal with the disastrous effects of alcoholism After prayers for understanding and discernment my Higher Power spoke to my heart and told me to go to a meeting In February 2007 I attended my first Al Anon meeting which met at the local Anglican church in my town The beginner s meeting was very small and I was the only new person there so I felt safe I remember not being able to finish my first sentence because I was crying so much The pain of losing my husband was so devastating I fell like my world was crumbling These ladies provided me the opportunity to vent my frustrations to tell my story as I saw it and to be honest with myself I was told that I would be okay When I went home that night I read my welcome packet and I could not put it down I could see my life through the experiences I was reading about in the pamphlets It was s
