United L Pharmaceuticals KLARIHIST Loratadine Description KLARIHIST Loratadine is a potent long acting tricyclic antihistamine with selective peripheral H re ceptor antagonistic effect Properties Loratadine is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration and is almost totally metabolized Loratadine has a distribution half life of one hour and elimination half life of 15 3 hours Loratadine is highly bound 97 99 to plasma proteins Loratadine and its active metabolite are excreted in the breast milk of lactating women Indications KLARIHIST is indicated for the relief of symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis including rhinorhoea sneezing and itching as well as ocular itching and burning Nasal and ocular signs and symptoms are relieved rapidly after oral administration KLARIHIST is also indicated for the relief of signs and symptoms of chronic urticaria and other allergic dermatological disorders Dosage and administration KLARIHIST can be administered independently of the meals Adults and children 12 years of age and over One KLARIHIST tablet 10 mg or 10 mi KLARIHIST syrup to be taken as once daily dose Children 2 12 years of age Body weight gt 30 kg 10 mi KLARIHIST syrup to be taken as once daily dose Body weight lt 30 kg 5 ml KLARIHIST syrup to be taken as once daily dose Contraindications Loratadine is contraindicated in patients w

8. e co administered with caution until definitive interaction studies can be completed Loratadine should be discontinued approximately 48 hours prior to skin testing procedures since antihistamines may prevent or diminish otherwise positive reactions to dermal reactivity indicators Side effects Loratadine has no clinically significant sedative properties at the daily recommended dose of 10 mg Most commonly reported side effects include Fatigue headache somnolence and dry mouth gas trointestinal disorders such as nausea gastritis and also allergic symptoms like rash Alopecia anaphylaxis and abnormal hepatic function have been reported rarely Rarely reported side effects in Children include Headache sedation and nervousness Overdosage Somnolence tachycardia and headache have been reported with overdoses A single acute ingestion of 160 mg produced no side effects In the event of overdosage symptomatic and supportive treat ment should be started immediately Treatment Consider standard measures to remove any unabsorbed drug in the stomach such as adsorption by activated charcoal administered as slurry with water The administration of gastric lavage should be considered physiologic saline solution is the lavage solution of choice particularly in children In adults tap water can be used however as much as possible of the amount administered should be removed before the next instillation Saline cathartics draw water into th
