56. T AND AIRPORT RESEARCH INSTITUTE Vol 41 No 3 MARCH 2003 Study and development of oil recovery system at the site of coastal shallow water with a skimmer and hoses for special high viscous oil Muneo YOSHIE Eiji SATO Kazuhiro SHIRAI Synopsis We developed an oil recovery system for high viscous oil about 500 000 cP and it can remove oil water contains little water from the surface of seawater The system can be operated at the site of that depth about 50cm water When Russian tanker NAKHODKA oil spill occurred they couldn t operate oil recovery ships and heavy machineries at such shallow water and depended on only manpower to remove high viscous oil from the beach We designed the system as a mechanical system collecting skimming separating and transporting oil from water surface up to the pit tank or so on the land The system consists of 3 equipments a collecting oil mechanism with oil booms and an original mechanical rake an oil skimming mechanism applied net conveyor and a transportation system with original hoses that prevent being stopped up The skimmer and a pump are separated in order to carry and launch it by manpower for its lightweight The system is maintained its oil removing logistics because it is developed as whole system The developed original system prototype proved that the system can remove high viscous emulsified oil over 500 000cP as much as 150 people works at the beach The system needs only 10
