22. ailerons Glue the hinges in the rudder first then in the tail post of the fuselage when the glue has set hard Check that there is plenty of rudder movement to both sides of centre Before the tailplane is installed permanently the aluminium sleeves for the DSS system must be glued in the fuselage To find the correct position of the aluminium sleeves the servos must first be screwed in place Drill holes in the servo plate for the servo retaining screws and fix the servos in place using the screws supplied with them File a slot in both sides of the fuselage for the elevator pushrod exits at the position stated in the photo At the servo end the aluminium sleeve is glued to a plywood support attached to the servo plate Ensure that the supports are glued in place with the pushrods directed straight at the servo output arms The two aluminium sleeves can now be glued in place When setting up the servos it is important to ensure that the servo output arms are at right angles to the pushrods When the glue has set hard the tailplane can be glued in the fuselage Slide the tailplane into its slot check that it projects equally on both sides and ensure that it is at right angles to the fuselage centreline Mark the outside line of the fuselage on the top and bottom of the tailplane using a felt tip pen Remove the tailplane and peel off the covering film inside the marked lines after running a hot soldering iron just inside the lines Fit th

32. d pliers Assembling the GEE BEE R2 Don t start building the model until you have read right through the building instructions and are familiar with all the kits components If you are not satisfied with any part inform your supplier before you start work on the model The wing The first step is to glue the hinges in the ailerons Trim the hinge slots to accept the hinges neatly i e they should be a snug fit without noticeable play Open up the entrance to the slots to a V shape using a balsa knife so that the hinge knuckles are slightly recessed this ensures that the hinge line gap will not be too wide Apply a little grease to the pivot area of the hinges before installing them to avoid them becoming jammed with glue Allow the glue to set hard then attach the ailerons permanently by gluing the projecting hinges in the wing Ensure that the gap between aileron and wing is narrow but adequate otherwise the ailerons will not be capable of sufficient up and down movement In the interests of safety the hinges should also be secured using pins inserted from the underside While the glue is hardening the servos can be installed in the wing using the Servo Lock mounts provided This is the procedure Sand off the corners of the Servo Locks as shown in the photo They should be glued to the servo well covers with the servo output arm projecting through the centre of the slot Fix the servo in the Servo Lock using the screws tubular
