9.  a ERR T ES  DU   f 2323 Jor    ud E M CE MID C CL P       1                                        l  Purpose    This study was concerned with traffic noise and the objective was to check  reaclions to noise over time  The study 1nvolvcd conducting interviews with  the same people at different points 1n time  The same questions were asted  at each point so the replies from cach round of the survey could be czemined  for differences  The object of the Survey uas carefully concealed both from     respondents and intervieuets  both of whom were led Lo believe that the survey  was concerned witn Energy Use in the conlext of the home and living environment     The survey sites  the Freldvork dates and the addresses at which interviews    were io be obtained were selected by Atkins Research  amp  Development  who also  O prepared the questionnaire  Burke Marketing Research were responsible only  for the conduct of freldwo  k  printing questionnaires and edi ling and punching  the questionnaires when completed    2  He thod    The original survey plan was for one panel of four sites  each to receive four  interviews during the winter of 1977 8 and a further panel of two sites  each  to receive tuo interviews during the summer of 1978 The plan vas  to obtain   a final sample of Sixty people at cach site  equally divided between men and  women  housewives or heads of household  who had completed al  four inlervieus   In ordei to achieve tins vo proposed to obtain around one hundred f
