5. e speakers featuring active crossovers and separate direct coupled output stages for each drive unit Active crossover units have ideal characteristics there are no losses while the frequency response and phase characteristics are exactly as desired and cal culated by the design team Active filters produce opti mum results with zero losses Unlike passive filters they are not limited to simple first order second order or at best third order network circuits they can be designed to incorporate much more sophisticated refined circuitry capable of compensating for phase and frequency re sponse shortcomings in the drivers Special filters are employed in TCI Active speakers designed to ensure that all the drive units operate in phase at all times In conventional passive loudspeakers the mid range drive unit is operated out of phase but this is not the case with TCI speakers Positive music signals are always cor rectly reproduced as positive signals negative signals as negative signals regardless of frequency Correct phase is important but equally crucial is correct timing and this is another area where TCI Active speakers excel In a normal three way loudspeaker the high frequency and mid range components do not reach the listener s ears exactly simultaneously whereas special measures are taken in Active speakers to correct these timing errors with the result that all parts of the frequency spectrum from 180 Hz to 40

13. furniture or curtains has a very marked adverse effect on their treble reproduc tion Position the speakers in such a way that the terminals cannot be touched when the speakers are operating especially by children Loudspeaker cabinets should not be positioned immedi ately adjacent to television sets because the magnetic field generated by the loudspeaker drivers can cause discoloration in the TV picture 30 All series speakers are supplied complete with various accessories and these include spikes and furni ture glides designed to couple the low frequency sound output to the listening room floor If you are considering the use of spikes or furniture glides be sure to read the following notes e The points of spikes may damage delicate floor surfaces e g parquet flooring or tiles e The spikes are extremely sharp and therefore capable of inflicting injury Please handle them with the greatest care and keep them well away from children e Vhen children are playing they tend to be unaware of danger For this reason you should either set up your loudspeakers where children do not usually play or provide some means of ensuring that the speakers cannot topple over To fit the spikes or furniture glides place the loud speaker at its final location and carefully lay the cabinet on its side 4 Screw the Tour spikes into the threaded holes in the bottom of the cabinet as shown in the illustration SP

15. h lt die Membran exakt auf Kurs Mit den neuen kraftvollen Endstufen der TCI Serie er ffnen sich auch f r die Regelung neue M glich keiten Schon in der 2 A mit ihrer durchaus modera ten Gr e erreichen wir eine 3 dB Grenzfrequenz von 30 Hz Auch darunter f llt der Schalldruck nicht wie bei passiven Lautsprechern abrupt ab sondern verl uft sehr flach so dass auch 20 Hertz noch mit praktisch vollem Pegel wiedergegeben werden Durch die Regelung wird auch das Einschwingverhalten und die Impulswieder gabe des Lautsprechers optimal Das Resultat ist eine extrem konturierte saubere und gut durchgezeichnete Basswiedergabe ohne Resonanzen und ohne Nach schwingen Aber auch bei kleinen Lautst rken berzeugt die mit einem stets homogenen Klangbild Die Endstufen Da es sich um aktive Lautsprecher handelt befinden sich die Endstufen bereits im Lautsprecher Hierbei han delt es sich bei den TCI Aktivlautsprechern jeweils um drei von T A neu entwickelte diskrete Schaltendstufen die optimal an die Bed rfnisse des jeweiligen Lautspre cherchassis angepasst sind und so optimale klangliche Ergebnisse liefern Die Endstufen arbeiten nach dem PWM Verfahren PWM Pulsweitenmodulation in Verbindung mit einem analog aufgebauten Modulator Der analoge Aufbau unserer Modulatorstufen erlaubt uns eine kontinuierliche also nicht quantisierte Einstellung der Pulsweiten Dieses System kann man als Multilevel Modulator mit unendlich
16. linear manner The mid range driver In many respects the mid range reproduction of a loud speaker is of crucial significance The human ear is at its most sensitive in this frequency range and carries out the tasks of direction finding and range assessment in this area The ear is also most efficient at perceiving subtle sound colours and dis colorations at mid range frequencies For this reason we have invested particular effort in developing a mid range unit of truly outstanding quality for the TCI series This new drive unit is capable of reproducing the entire tonal range between 250 Hz and 2500 Hz whilst remain ing extremely linear and homogenous in character This is due to the extremely stiff but light weight saturated fibre cone in conjunction with a low profile channel with very high damping action 60 14 The radiation characteristics of this mid range unit are outstanding due to the specially shaped speaker cone and the accurately calculated finely tuned phase plug The developed low profile surround is made of a hard rubber compound with excellent damping charac teristics which eliminates resonances and effectively prevents reflections in the cone which could cause coloration of the sound 24 Since the treble and bass units in the TCI series have superb peak handling properties the new mid range unit also had to be able to perform much better than any previous driver The gigantic 120 mm magnet sy
17. mattresses household textiles etc The wadding we use has passed the textiles tested for harmful materials test and fulfils the currently valid humane ecological requirements It has even success fully met the very exacting requirements of the standard test for baby clothing 36 For loudspeaker transport we have selected a form of styrofoam packing which gives excellent protection and is environmentally non harmful because Styrofoam is not foamed using CFC based propellants but with pentane which is a pure hydro carbon Styrofoam packaging is 100 recyclable it can be disposed of free of charge at material collection centres and community recycling points Styrofoam packaging requires for its manufacture 85 less raw material and 50 less energy than compa rable packaging made from other materials Styrofoam packaging consists of up to 98 air and 2 95 pure hydro carbon Styrofoam packaging has no harmful effect on ground water Styrofoam packaging helps to reduce freight costs and transport damage Note The carton containing the styrofoam packaging has been designed specifically for our loudspeakers It forms a safe container if you ever need to transport the speakers and helps to maintain their resale value The only permissible method of disposing of this product is to take it to your local collec tion centre for electrical waste Care and maintenance The surface of the lou

19. than 900 Watts those of the TCI 1 A more than 1300 Watts The new switched amplifiers offer superb reproduction characteristics high power and wide dynamic range making them the ideal partners for our demanding Active concept Since loudspeakers feature separate power ampli fiers for each segment of the frequency range i e bass mid range and treble they offer enormous power reserves which guarantee an extremely wide dynamic range A normal amplifier driving a passive loudspeaker has to reproduce all parts of the frequency range and there is little headroom for signals in the mid range and treble when a high level bass signal is present In con trast speakers still provide their full reserves in the mid range and treble even when the bass power ampli fier is delivering several hundred Watts of power The result is that the TCl s full uninterrupted dynamic range is main tained even at high levels A brief example will clarify what would be necessary in order to achieve the same dynamic range from a conventional passive system If high peak signals occur simultaneously in the bass mid range and treble the TCI2A for example is capable of delivering 70 Volts peak voltage in each of these ranges A power amplifier feeding a passive speaker would need to supply around 200 Volts of output voltage in order to achieve the same performance This would equate to a peak output of around 5100 Watts into 4 Ohms Sligh
