10. ack 1 O 4feet 1 22 m side ramps 2 E Plastic wall base trim template 1 AVTrac Kit Contents 3 Before Getting Started Planning AVTrac can be installed before new carpeting is fitted or retrofitted under preexisting carpet It can also be installed in new construction before the drywall and carpeting is in place Retrofitting the track in a space with existing carpeting and furniture requires some extra preparation to remove the carpet and prepare the floor for laying the track Before installing the AVTrac determine whether the installation will be in new construction under preexisting carpet tiles or under preexisting carpet rolls and follow the appropriate installation instructions see page 7 Read and follow all instructions carefully Floor Considerations AVTrac is designed to be installed only underneath commercial grade carpeting 1 4 inch to 5 16 inch 0 6 to 0 8 cm in thickness It can be installed under new or preexisting carpet tile or carpet roll AV Trac is not designed to be installed under vinyl composite tile VCT To install AVTrac over most types of flooring consult the AVTrac Above Floor Installation Solution which is available on the Extron website In Wall Cable Routing Considerations Locate a convenient junction box in the wall or ceiling for power The AC power module is rated at 20 A maximum and no fuse is used on the box Extron recommends that the AC conduit be connected to a juncti

13. d Prelaid Carpet Tiles For installation of AVTrac under prelaid carpet tiles peel back the carpet to expose the concrete where the track and side ramps will be positioned as shown in the figure at right Prelaid Carpet Rolls Peel back Carpet If AVTrac is being installed in a room that is already fitted with carpet rolls the ideal solution is to peel back the entire carpet roll s covering the area where the track will run AVTrac Installation 7 Prelaid Carpet Rolls Cut Carpet When the positioning of preinstalled furniture makes it impossible to remove existing carpet the carpet must be cut see the figure at right Use tape to mark where the track and ramps will be positioned and make one straight cut in the middle of where the base track will run see the figure to the right This cut must be the same length as the base track Make three shorter cuts and corresponding to but extending about 4 inches 10 2 cm past the edges of the end ramps These cuts must be clean because the carpet needs to be seamed after the AVTrac has been installed Pull the carpet back to expose the floor where the base track the side ramps and the end ramps will be secured Side Ramps NOTE AVTrac is not designed to be installed under vinyl composite tile VCT 2 f necessary remove the baseboard from the bottom of the wall and mark where the AVTrac will meet the wall AVTrac e I

17. in the cover of the connectivity box with seven spaces of AAPs AC Outlet f Cover Plate In models without the AC power module fill all ten spaces of AAPS NOTE Extron AAPs must be purchased separately NOTE To prevent bending of cables place E the AAP with the greatest depth requirement including cables in the AAP slot closest to the center ridge of the connectivity box 3 55 9 02 cm 2 Run the cables from the wall to the connectivity box Attach the cables to the AAPs as described in the installation guide for each AAP module N i EE e Ee pm 3 Reattach the cover panel AVTrac Installation 14 Step 5 Completing the Installation At this point the track and connectivity box must be secured to the floor the electrical power must be connected and the AAP sockets must be populated To complete the installation of the AVTrac follow these instructions 1 Lay the cables and power cords flat against the base track If necessary feed excess cable back into the wall 2 Snap the cover track onto the base track 3 Before cutting and gluing carpet remove all dust and debris with a vacuum cleaner Cut the carpet or carpet tiles so that it runs up to but does not cover the aluminum track see the diagram below NOTE Cut the carpet to meet the edge of the cover track Do not align the cuts to the edge of the ramps because this will leave a gap between the end o
18. ithin 6 inches 15 2 cm of each end of the track Bi Base Track To ensure that all components are securely attached to the floor Extron recommends that the predrilled holes should closely follow the pattern shown in the figure below 6 inches max Le 3feetmax gt x 6 Remove the cover panel from the connectivity box Examine the bottom of the connectivity box one end has two mounting holes one in each corner the other end has three gees mounting holes one in each corner and one 3 mounting holes V mounting Holes in the center The end with three holes faces toward the track This end has 2 mounting holes Align the end of the box with two mounting holes with the end of the base track Mark where the mounting holes in the bottom of the box lie over the base track Using a 1 4 inch bit for drilling metal not supplied drill at least three mounting holes in the base track to secure the connectivity box to the floor AVTrac e Installation 10 7 Lay the base track on the floor in the Tab on side ramp mates with groove prepared location ee Mate the tabs in the side ramps with the j Side Ramp grooves in the base track and place the end Fork EN Base Track ramps in position at the end of the track furthest from the wall 8 Using the provided masonry bit drill Drill a 5 32 x 1 1 2 deep hole 5 32 inch diameter by 1 1 2 inch deep into concrete

20. nstallation 8 3 Using a drill and box cutters or a saw cut a hole at the base of the wall 4 inches wide by 1 inches high 10 1 cm x 3 8 cm If there is a metal base stud use a hand saw or tin snips to cut it at both edges of the hole and bend it back into the hole so that the stud lies flat on the floor Use a file to remove any jagged edges that might damage cables The hole will eventually be covered by the baseboard so it does not have to be perfect 4 Measure and cut the track pieces to the desired length The track should run up to but not enter the hole in the wall WARNING Always wear safety goggles when using power equipment If the track is to be cut the base track must be 12 inches 30 48 cm longer than the cover track This is the length of the connectivity box which sits on the base track but not on the cover track see the figure at right The end ramps add an additional 9 36 inches 23 8 cm to the total length of the installed track qu 10 2 cm 1v 3 8 F d F Aluminum Cover Track Side Ramp 9 36 23 77 cm Aluminum Base Track AMTrac e Installation 9 5 Drill mounting holes in the shallow grooves of Shallow Groove the base track and side ramps using a 1 4 inch EEN Ve bit for drilling metal not supplied Shallow Groove in Side Ramp NOTE Mounting holes must be a predrill holes maximum of 3 feet 91 cm apart and one must be w

22. osest to the track 6 32 Nut a Slide the power module side tabs into the AC Power Tabs bS slots on the side of the connectivity box noone E b Seatthe power module on the stud in the connectivity box C Secure the module to the stud on the connectivity box by hand tightening the provided 6 32 inch nut 2 Run the unattached end of the AC conduit through the wall cutout and connect it to a junction box inside the wall or ceiling Extron recommends the circuit be attached to a junction box that is directly wired to the main circuit The AC power module does not have a fuse and is rated at 20 A maximum WARNING Switch off all electrical power before connecting the AC conduit to a junction box and keep power off until installation is complete To20 Amp Main Circuit CAUTION All electrical installation should be performed by qualified personnel in accordance with Junction Box local and national electrical codes ground AC Conduit 4 From AVTrac AC Power Module AVTrac Installation 19 Step 4 Architectural Adapter Plates AAPs At this point the track ramps and connectivitly box must all be securely in place If an AC power module is required it must be attached to the connectivity box and connected to an AC junction box Do not turn on the power at this time To attach the Architectural Adapter Plates AAPs follow these instructions AAP 1 Fill the remaining AAP slots
23. pilot holes into the concrete through the Supplied Masonry Screws predrilled mounting holes in the track and T ramps wu uuu 9 Secure the track and ramps to the floor with the provided masonry screws NOTE Do not use the holes that were drilled to secure the connectivity box in sub step 6 of this section AVTrac Installation 11 Step 2 Connectivity Box By this point the base track side ramps and end ramps must be securely fastened to the floor To attach the connectivity box to the base track follow these instructions 1 Reposition the base of the connectivity box Mounting Holes 3 at the end closest to the wall in the correct orientation over the predrilled holes in the base track see sub step 6 in Step 1 Track Masonry Screws The end of the connectivity box that has three mounting holes faces back towards the wall 2 Using at least three of the provided 3 16 inch masonry screws secure the box to the track and floor 3 Remove all dust with a vacuum cleaner AVTrac Installation 12 Step 3 AC Power Module By this point the base of the connectivity box must be securely fastened to the floor If your AVTrac system does not include the AC power module ignore this section To attach the AC power module follow these instructions 1 The AC power module must be positioned under the triple AAP socket that is cl
24. proximately 4 8 The AVTrac maximum slope is 4 5 which meets ADA requirements AVTrac Before Getting Started 5 Tools and Equipment Required Before Installation Almost everything you need to install your AVTrac system has been included You will need some basic tools and materials depending on the facility and requirements Visit www extron com for a Tull range of cables and components for populating the connectivity box Tin Snips iter Cutoff Sa lade for cuttin etal AVTrac Before Getting Started 6 Installation Step 1 Track By this point you must have decided exactly where the AVTrac will be installed checked the contents of the kit and gathered the tools that you will need Extron recommends consulting a carpeting expert before removing the carpet 1 Determine whether the installation will be in new construction under preexisting carpet tiles or under preexisting carpet rolls and follow the appropriate instructions When installing AVTrac under preexisting carpet if possible completely remove the carpet from where the track will be laid If this is not possible the carpet must be cut After removing the carpet make sure that the concrete base is level and structurally sound Prior to installation leveling and topping may be needed New Construction When AVTrac is being placed in a new building the carpet should not be laid until the track has been installe
