5. ecessary add distilled water to the battery before charging Follow the manufacturer s instructions Never add water to a battery while itis attached to a charger or while itis in close proximity to the charger 3 Clean the battery terminals 4 Check with the battery manufacturer to see if the cell caps need to be on or off while charging If nothing is stated leave the caps on feedback natitools com 2 1 800 348 5004 Operating Instructions WARNING If the reverse connect light ever lights immediately unplug the charger and reconnect the clamps to the battery The engine must be off during the entire charging process Connecting to a battery inside a vehicle 1 Make sure the AC power cord is not plugged in 2 Set the charger on a flat dry surface that allows you to position the power and clamp cords where they won t be damaged by vehicle doors hood or sharp engine parts Most vehicles are negative grounded vehicles The most common vehicle is a negative grounded vehicle The less common positive grounded vehicle is also addressed in this manual If you are unsure about your vehicle check the owner s manual or talk to an authorized technician 3 Negative grounded vehicles The battery will have two terminals one marked positive and the other negative Connect the red clamp to the positive ungrounded terminal of the battery Connect the black clamp to a heavy gauge metal part o
6. f the vehicle chassis or engine block that is away from the battery Do not connect the black clamp to the negative terminal on the battery fuel lines carburetor or sheet metal body parts Positive grounded vehicles The battery will have two terminals Connect the negative black charger clamp to the negative ungrounded terminal of the battery Connect the positive red clamp to a heavy gauge metal part of the vehicle chassis or engine block away from the battery Do not connect the negative black terminal on the battery fuel lines carburetor or sheet metal body parts Connecting to a battery outside the vehicle 1 Make sure the AC power cord is not plugged in 2 The battery should have two terminals One should be marked positive and the other marked negative To protect yourself connect a battery cable not included thatis at least 24 long and 6 AWG to the negative terminal battery 3 Connect the positive red clamp from the charger to the positive terminal of the battery 4 Position yourself and the free end of the battery cable not included that is attached to the negative battery terminal as far away as possible from the battery While facing away from the battery connect the negative black charger clamp to the free end of the battery cable not included Charging The six volt setting 10A 6V on the select switch is for charging medium to large 6V batteries It is a man
7. ging a cold battery sulfated battery or a deeply discharged lead calcium battery used on many newer model cars Cold batteries at or below 32 degrees Fahrenheit will begin charging ata low rate and then increase as the battery warms When the battery warms up the rate will decrease at a normal rate Shorted batteries will read on the ammeter as a high end peg at the beginning of the charging process If the needle does not move off of the high end after 5 10 minutes unplug the charger and discontinue because the battery may have a short circuit Take the battery to an authorized technician to have it inspected Engine Starting Note This charger s 55Amp high current output can help start a vehicle with a weak battery Please not thatsome newer vehicles with onboard computers may be damaged from this process Read the vehicle owner s manual before using this procedure 1 Connect the charger as noted in the operating instructions on page 7 2 Set the charger to charge the battery for 5 10 minutes according to the charge rate for the size of the batter as explained on page 7 3 Set the select function switch to start and the select switch to 55A 4 Attempt to start the vehicle If it does not startin 2 3 minutes stop and wait for the battery to charge for 5 10 more minutes Try again and repeat until successful If the engine continues to spin but will not start after several tries stop at
