NING Burn and Fire Hazard e f you leave a utensil on the right rear surface unit use potholders when moving it Pan handles can become hot enough to burn Keep flammable materials away from oven vent Failure to do so can result in burns or a fire 17 USING YOUR RANGE The storage drawer You can remove the storage drawer to make it easier to clean under the range and to check for installation of the anti tip brackets Use care when handling the drawer Removing the storage drawer 1 Empty drawer of any pots and pans before removing drawer Pull drawer straight out to the first stop Lift front and pull out to the second stop Lift back slightly and slide drawer all the way out Replacing the storage drawer 1 Fit ends of drawer slide rails into the drawer guides on both sides of opening Lift drawer front and push in until metal stops on drawer slide rails clear white stops on drawer guides Lift drawer front again to clear second stop and slide drawer closed Drawer slide rail The anti tip brackets The range will not tip during normal use However tipping can occur if you apply too much force or weight to the open door without the anti tip brackets properly secured To verify the anti tip brackets are engaged Remove storage drawer e Look to see if the anti tip brackets are attached to floor with screws e Make sure rear leveling legs are posi ti

11. ficient and safe use of your range Using the surface units Push in control knobs before turning them to a setting You can set them any where between HI and OFF Surface unit markers The solid dot in the surface unit marker shows which surface unit is turned on by that knob Surface heating indicator light The SURFACE HEATING Indicator Light on the control panel will glow when a surface unit is turned on AWARNING Burn and Fire Hazard Be sure all control knobs are turned to OFF and all indicator lights are OFF when you are not cooking Someone could be burned or a fire could start if a surface unit is acciden tally left ON USING YOUR RANGE Until you get used to the settings use the following as a guide For best results start cooking at the high setting then turn the control knob down to continue cooking _ SETTING a RECOMMENDED USE HI e To start foods cooking 2 To bring liquids to a boil To hold a rapid boil To fry chicken or pan cakes _ e For gravy pudding and icing e To cook large amounts of vegetables e To keep food cooking after starting it on a higher setting e To keep food warm until ready to serve Cookware tips e Select a pan that is about the same size as the surface unit e NOTE For best results and greater energy efficiency use only flat bottomed utensils that make good contact with the surface units Utensil
12. ime you are not satisfied with the temperature settings you can change them by following these steps 1 Turn the Thermostat to the off position Pull knob straight off and flip it over 2 Loosen the locking screws inside the control Locking Notches Tooth knob Note the position of the notches Screws 3 To lower the temperature hold knob handle To raise To lower firmly and move the tooth a notch closer to LO Each notch equals about 10 F 5 C 4 To raise the temperature hold knob handle firmly and move the tooth a notch closer to HI Each notch equals about 10 F 5 C A Tighten the locking screws and replace the control knob Broiling 1 Position the rack properly before turning on the oven Position rack so that the surface of the food is at least 3 inches 7 4 cm away from the broil element See Broiling chart on page 14 2 Put the broiler pan and food on the rack 3 Close the door to the Broil Stop position open about 4 inches 10 2 cm The door will stay open by itself 4 Set the Oven Selector and Thermostat to BROIL The OVEN HEATING indicator Light will come on NOTE Preheating broiler is suggested when searing rare beef steaks 5 When broiling is done turn both the Oven Selector and Thermostat to OFF The OVEN HEATING Indicator Light will go off 13 USING YOUR RANGE Broiling chart Use the following times and settings as a guide when broiling Increase o
13. ing Use aluminum foil to catch spillovers from pies or casseroles e Place the foil on the oven rack below the rack with the food Turn up foil edges and make sure foil is about 1 inch 3 cm larger all around than the dish holding the food Do not cover the entire rack with alumi num foil It will reduce air circulation and cause poor cooking results e Do not line oven bottom or entire oven rack with foil or other liners Poor baking will result AWARNING Electrical Shock and Fire Hazard Do not allow foil to touch the heating elements because it will damage them and could result in shock or fire hazard 10 USING YOUR RANGE Setting the clock Push in and turn the Minute Timer Knob to set the clock 1 Push in Minute Timer Knob and turn clockwise until clock shows the correct time of day 2 Let the Minute Timer Knob pop out Turn clockwise until Minute Timer hand points to OFF The clock setting will change if you push in the knob when turning Using the Minute Timer The Minute Timer does not start or stop the oven It works like a kitchen timer Set it in minutes up to an hour You will hear a buzzer when the set time is up NOTE Do not push in the knob when setting the Minute Timer or when stopping the buzzer Pushing in and turning the Minute Timer Knob changes the clock setting 1 Without pushing it in turn the Minute Timer Knob until the timer hand passes the setting you wa
14. nge and warm soapy water Steel wool pad and warm soapy water OR i Commercial oven e Remove door for easier access cleaners Place newspaper on floor to protect floor surface e Follow directions provided with the oven cleaner e Rinse well with clear water e Use in well ventilated room Do not allow commercial oven cleaners to contact the heating elements heat seal thermostat or exterior surfaces of the range Damage will occur e Place a piece of foil on the oven floor to catch spillovers Make sure foil is centered and does not touch heating element Heavy duty aluminum foil The oven light The oven light will come on when you open the oven door To turn the light on when the oven door is closed use the Oven Light Switch on the control panel AWARNING Electrical Shock and Personal Injury Hazard e Make sure oven and light bulb are cool and power to the range has been turned off before replacing the light bulb Failure to do so could result in electrical shock or burns e The bulb cover must be in place when using the oven The cover protects the bulb from breaking and from high oven temperatures Because bulb cover is made of glass be careful not to drop it Broken glass could cause injury 24 IF YOU NEED ASSISTANCE OR SERVICE To replace the oven light 1 Disconnect appliance at the main power supply 2 Remove the glass bulb cover in the ba
15. nit for best results Also use a canner pan which can be centered over the surface unit and which does not extend more than one inch outside surface unit area Large diameter canners pans if not properly centered trap heat and can cause damage to the cooktop e Do not place canner on two surface units at the same time Too much heat will build up and will damage the cooktop e Start with hot water This reduces the time the control is set on high Reduce heat setting to lowest position needed to keep water boiling USING YOUR RANGE e Keep reflector bowls clean for best heat reflection e To prolong the life of the elements Prepare small batches at a time Do not use elements for canning all day Optional canning kit The large diameter of most water bath or pressure canners combined with high heat settings for long periods of time can shorten the life of regular surface units and cause damage to the cooktop If you plan to use the cooktop for canning we recommend the installation of a Canning Kit Order the kit Part No 242905 from your Whirlpool dealer or authorized Whirlpools service company Positioning racks and pans For baking roasting with one rack place the rack so the top of the food will be centered in the oven Rack placement for specific foods FOOD RACK POSITION Frozen pies large Lowest level or roasts turkeys 2nd level from bottom 2nd level from bottom
16. not use steel wool or abrasive cleansers They may damage the finish e Do not spray cleaner directly on panel Apply cleaner to paper towel Paper towel and spray glass cleaner 22 CARING FOR YOUR RANGE HOWTOCLEAN A nua e Wash rinse and dry thoroughly Use non abrasive plastic scrubbing pad on heavily soiled areas Do not use abrasive or harsh cleansers They may damage the finish NOTE Do not allow foods containing acids such as vinegar tomato or lemon juice to remain on surface Acids may remove the glossy finish Also wipe up milk or egg spills when cooktop is cool PART WHAT TO USE Exterior surfaces Sponge and warm other than control soapy water e Wash rinse and dry thoroughly to remove small stains and streaks e Use a paste made of water and a mild scouring powder on heavily soiled areas Be sure to rub in the direction of the polish lines on the stainless steel to preserve the finish e Small dark spots may occur on your stainless steel range cooktop This is caused by heat oxidation of the steel and is in no way harmful To prevent spots never use more heat than is necessary To remove spots scour vigor ously with a stainless steel or steel wool sponge and a paste made of scouring powder and water Rub in the direction of the polish lines NOTES e Certain foods and seasonings containing salt may in time cause stainless st
17. nt 2 Without pushing it in turn the knob back to the setting you want When the time is up a buzzer will sound To stop the buzzer turn the Minute Timer hand to OFF 11 USING YOUR RANGE Baking roasting 1 Position the rack s properly before turning on the oven To change rack position lift rack at front and pull out For further information see Positioning racks and pans on page 9 2 Set the Oven Selector to BAKE 3 Set the Thermostat to the baking roasting temperature you want The OVEN HEATING Indicator Light will come on The oven is preheated when the OVEN HEATING Indicator Light first goes off NOTE Do not preheat oven when roasting or cooking items such as casseroles 4 Put food in the oven During baking roasting the elements will turn on and off to maintain the temperature setting The OVEN HEATING Indicator Light will turn on and off with the elements NOTE The top element helps heat during baking roasting but does not turn red 5 When baking roasting is done turn both the Oven Selector and the Thermo stat to OFF The OVEN HEATING Indicator Light will go off 12 _ USING YOUR RANGE Adjusting the oven temperature control Oven temperature controls will gradually shift after years of use So even though your new oven is properly adjusted to provide accurate temperatures it may cook faster or slower than your old oven If after using the oven for a period of t
18. olders Moist or damp potholders on hot surfaces may result in burns from steam Do not let potholder touch hot heating elements Do not use a towel or bulky cloth for a potholder It could catch on fire e Keep range vents unobstructed e Do not heat unopened contain ers They could explode The hot contents could cause burns and container particles could cause injury e Do not store flammable materi als on or near the range The fumes can create an explosion and or fire hazard When using the cooktop e Make sure the reflector bowls are in place during cooking Cooking without reflector bowls may subject the wiring and components underneath them to damage e Do not line reflector bowls with aluminum foil or other liners Improper installation of these liners may result in a risk of electric shock or fire e Select a pan with a flat bottom that is about the same size as the surface unit If pan is smaller than the surface unit some of the heating element will be exposed and may result in the igniting of clothing or potholders orrect pan size also improves cooking efficiency e Check to be sure glass cook ing utensils are safe for use on the range Only certain types of glass glass ceramic ceramic earthenware or other lazed utensils are suitable or cooktops without breaking due to the sudden change in temperature e Never leave surface units unattended at high heat set tings A boilover could resul
19. oned under brackets e See Installation Instructions for further details 18 Caring For Your Range In This Section Page Surface units and reflector bowls 19 Cleaning chart Lift up cooktop The oven light Removing the oven door Your range is designed for ease of care You can do most cleaning with items found AWARNING around your home Cleaning your range Burn and Electrical Shock Hazard whenever spills or soiling occurs will help to keep it looking and operating like new Make sure all controls are OFF and the range is cool before cleaning Failure to do so can result in burns or electrical shock Surface units and reflector bowls Removing 1 Make sure all surface units are off before removing surface units and reflector bowls 2 Lift the edge of the unit opposite the receptacle just enough to clear the reflector bowl 19 CARING FOR YOUR RANGE 3 Pull the surface unit straight away from the receptacle 4 Lift out the reflector bowl See Cleaning chart on page 23 for cleaning instruc tions Replacing 1 Make sure all surface units are off before replacing surface units and reflector bowls 2 Line up openings in the reflector bowl with the surface unit receptacle 20 3 Hold the surface unit as level as possible with the terminal just started into the receptacle Push the surface unit terminal into the receptacle 4 When terminal is pushed into the
20. our new oven has 2 shipping retaining brackets held in place with screws They are located above the hinge arm slot Remove and discard brackets before attempting to remove oven door AWARNING Burn and Electrical Shock Hazard Make sure all controls are OFF and the oven door is cool before removing oven door Failure to do so can result in burns or electrical shock To remove door 1 Open the door to the Broil Stop position 2 Hold the door at both sides and lift up and out To replace door 1 Be sure hinge arms are in the open position See illustration 2 Hold door at both sides and insert hinge arms into range slots 3 Push bottom of door toward range with your knee Shipping NOTE Hinge arms must go into the range slots retaining evenly Bottom door corners should be in as far bracket as they can go If door does not line up remove and repeat Steps 1 2 and 3 Hinge arm Cleaning chart Use the following table to help you clean all parts of your range PART WHAT TO USE HOW TO CLEAN Control knobs Sponge and warm Turn knobs to OFF and pull straight away from soapy water control panel e Wash rinse and dry thoroughly Do not soak Do not use steel wool or abrasive cleansers They may damage the finish of the knobs e Replace knobs Make sure all knobs point to OFF Control panel Sponge and warm soapy water e Wash rinse and dry thoroughly Do
