2. around If light shows anywhere between the pan and the straight edge the pan is not flat Do not use it See the Cooking Guide for additional cookware information The electronic oven controls There are three parts in the oven control section The digital display The command buttons The Set Knob Instructions for each oven control are covered on the following pages Read them carefully When you first plug in the range the display will show four flashing 8 s If after you set the clock page 8 the dis play again shows four flashing 8 s your electricity was off for a while Reset the clock ISDA IC VF IE LILI bate TIMER BK HR ST TM DELAY BAKE BROIL TIME WNSEC BAKE STOP BAKE sro SELF OF DAY nMER HOUAS TME CLEAN O00000 Digital display clock When you are not using the oven this is an accurate digital clock When using the oven or Minute Timer the display will show the time temperature settings and what command buttons have been pressed When showing the time of day the display will show the hour and minutes When using the Minute Timer the display shows minutes and seconds in the following sequence e For settings from 1 59 seconds each second will show in the display e For settings from 1 10 minutes the display will increase in 10 second increments e For settings from 10 99 minutes the display will increase in 1 minute increments When using the Bake

Hours and or Stop Time the display shows hours and minutes The small display will show Err if two commands that can not be used together are entered such as Bake and Broil Command buttons The command buttons tell the oven what to do and in what order A few examples Time Of Day tells the oven you are going to set the clock Oven Off tells the oven to turn off Each command button except Oven Off and Self Clean has its own light The light comes on when you touch the command buttons Set Knob Once you ve pushed a command but ton to tell the oven what you want it to do you ll use the Set Knob to set a tem perature or time Turning the Set Knob clockwise increases the number on the display Turning the Set Knob counter clockwise decreases the number on the display 5 Using Your Range Continued Setting the clock 1 Push the Time Of Day button The TIME light will show in the display 2 While pushing the Time Of Day button turn the Set Knob until the correct time shows in the display 3 Release the Time Of Day button Using the electronic Minute Timer MIN SEC The Minute Timer does not start or stop TIMER the oven It works like a kitchen timer It can be Set in minutes and seconds up to 99 minutes You will hear four beeps when the set time is up 1 Push the Min Sec Timer button The TIMER light will come on and the display will show 0 00 2 Turn the Set Knob
4. bulb from its socket Replace the bulb with a 40 watt appliance bulb h 4 Replace the bulb cover and snap the wire holder in place Plug in appliance or re connect at main power supply NOTE The oven light will not work during the Self Cleaning cycle lf You Need Service Or Assistance We suggest you follow these five steps 1 Before calling for assistance Performance problems often result from little things you can find and fix without tools of any kind If nothing operates e Is the power supply cord plugged into a live circuit with the proper voltage See Installation Instructions e Have you checked your home s main fuses or circuit breaker box If the oven will not operate e Are the electronic controls set correctly See pages 9 15 e Have you programmed a delay start time If surface units will not operate e Have you checked your home s main fuses or circuit breaker box e Do the control knobs turn If surface unit knob s will not turn e Did you push in before trying to turn If the Self Cleaning cycle will not operate e Does the clock show the right time of day e Is the Lock Lever all the way to the right Have you set a delay start time If cooking results aren t what you expected e Is the range level e If needed have you preheated the oven as the recipe calls for e Are you following a tested recipe from a reliable source e Are you using pans recommended

6. rings will yellow from the heat of the surface units and pans This is normal The yellowing can be removed by using stainless steel cleaner or Cook Top Polishing Creme on the trim rings To obtain order information for Cook Top Polishing Creme Part No 814009 or Electrol dressing Part No 814030 write to Whirlpool Corporation Attention Customer Service Dept 1900 Whirlpool Drive LaPorte IN 46305 Using the Self Cleaning cycle The Self Cleaning cycle uses very high heat to burn away soil Before you start make sure you understand exactly how to use the Self Cleaning cycle safely Before you start 1 Clean the areas shown by hand They do not get hot enough during the Self Cleaning cycle for soil to burn away Use hot water and detergent or a soapy steel wool pad on o The inside of the door The center area of the door does not need to be hand cleaned e The frame around the oven Do not clean move or bend the fiberglass seal Poor cleaning and poor baking will result 2 Remove the broiler pan and any pots and pans you may have stored in the oven NOTE The broiler pan without grid can be cleaned in the oven only if most of the soil has been removed by hand cleaning or a dishwasher The chrome broiler grid will discolor if cleaned in the Self Cleaning cycle 3 Wipe out any loose soil or grease This will help reduce smoke during the Self Cleaning cycle 4 If the oven has a rotisser
7. small display 4 The oven is preheated when you hear three beeps and the PRE light goes off 5 Put food in the oven During baking the elements will turn on and off to keep the oven temperature at the setting The top element helps heat dur ing baking but does not turn red 6 When baking is done push the Oven Off button Off will show in the dis play and all other displays will go off NOTE The oven automatically turns off after 11 hours 59 minutes Broiling 1 Position the rack before turning the oven on See Broil Chart in the Cooking Guide or a reliable cook book for recommended rack positions 2 Put the broiler pan and food on the rack 3 Close the door to the Broil Stop posi tion open about 4 inches 10 2 cm The door will stay open by itself 4 Push the Broil button brl will show in the small display and the BROIL and ON lights will come on 5 When broiling is done push the Oven Off button Off will show in the large display and all other displays will go off Custom broil e If food is cooking too fast push the Broil button and turn the Set Knob counterclockwise until 325 F shows in the small display The CUST BROIL and ON lights will come on e If you want food to broil slower from the start push the Broil button and turn the Set Knob so a temperature between 150 F and 325 F 65 5 C and 162 7 C shows in the small dis play The lower the temp

9. the surface unit marker shows which surface unit is turned on by that knob Surface unit indicator lights One of the Surface Unit Indicator Lights on the control panel will glow when a Surface unit is on AWARNING Burn and Fire Hazard Be sure all control knobs are turned to OFF and all indicator lights are OFF when you are not cooking Someone could be burned or a fire could start if a surface unit is accidentally left ON Until you get used to the set tings use the following as a guide For best results start cooking at the high settings then turn the control knob down to continue cooking Use HI to start foods cooking to bring liquids to a boil Use MED HI to hold a rapid boil to fry chicken or pancakes Use MED for gravy puddings and icing to cook large amounts of vegetables Use MED LO to keep food cooking after starting it on a higher setting Use LO to keep food warm until ready to serve Set the heat higher or lower within the LO band to keep food at the temperature you want Using Your Range Continued ACAUTION Solid elements stay hot for a long time Do not use the HI setting for long periods of time or leave pans on hot elements when cooking is done Burned food and damage to the cookware could result Solid element surface units Before placing a pan on solid element surface units for the first time heat on HI setting for five minutes The surface units will give off s
