NOTE For recommended rack placement when broiling see Broiling rack position chart on page 19 USING YOUR RANGE For best air circulation Use the following as a guide to determine where to place the pans One pan Place in the center of the oven rack Two pans Place in opposite corners of the oven rack Three or four pans Place in opposite corners on each oven rack Stagger pans so no pan is directly Hot air must circulate around the pans in the over another oven for even heat to reach all parts of the oven This results in better baking e Place the pans so that one is not directly over the other e For best results allow 11 2 to 2 inches 4 5 cm of space around each pan and between pans and oven walls There must be a minimum space of 1 inch 3 cm e Use only one cookie sheet in the oven at one time Using aluminum foil for baking 3 s wji tj ES THEE J Use aluminum foil to catch spillovers from pies or casseroles Place the foil on the oven rack below the rack with the food Turn up foil edges and make sure foil is about 1 inch 3 cm larger all around than the dish holding the food e Do not cover the entire rack with alumi num foil It will reduce air circulation and cause poor cooking results Do not line oven bottom or entire oven rack with foil or other liners Poor baking will result 11 USING YOUR RANGE The electronic oven control Electronic disp

4. the surface unit is too hot to touch even after it is turned off AWARNING Fire Hazard Turn all controls off when done cooking Failure to do so can result in death fire or burns Until you get used to the settings use the following as a guide For best results start cooking at the high setting then turn the control knob down to continue cooking SETTING RECOMMENDED USE HI e To start foods cooking e To bring liquids to a boil 6 8 e To hold a rapid boil e To fry chicken or pancakes e For gravy pudding and icing e To cook large amounts of vegetables 2 4 e To keep food cooking after starting itona higher setting LO e To keep food warm until ready to serve USING YOUR RANGE Using the ceramic glass cooktop Cooking on the ceramic glass cooktop is almost the same as cooking on coil surface units There are however a few differences e The surface unit will glow red when it is turned on You will see the element cycling on glowing red and off even on HI setting to maintain the proper tempera ture setting you have selected e Sliding metal pans on ceramic glass cooktop surface could leave marks Wiping off the cooktop before and after each use will help keep the surface free from stains and provide the most even heating See pages 27 and 28 for care and cleaning suggestions Cookware tips e Select a pan that is about the same size as the surfac

6. longer or shorter than 3 hours use the Hour and Minute pads to set the desired cleaning time Press the up A or down Y pad s until a time between 22 412 hours shows on the display e Use 2 hours for light soil e Use 314 4 hours for moderate to heavy soil 24 PRESS YOU SEE example shows 41 hour cleaning time 3 Start oven PRESS YOU SEE NOTE The display will show door and a tone will sound once every five seconds if the door is not latched Lock Lever set at the clean position 4 After Self Cleaning cycle starts LOCK D lights up on the display when the oven temperature goes above normal baking roasting temperatures The Lock Lever must not be moved and the door cannot be opened when LOCK D is on 5 After Self Cleaning cycle ends YOU SEE and oven reaches normal bak ing roasting temperatures LOCK D goes off Move the Lock Lever back to the left DO NOT FORCE IT Wait until it moves easily To stop the Self Cleaning cycle PRESS YOU SEE at any time When LOCK D goes off move the Lock OFF Lever back to the left DO NOT FORCE IT ae Wait until it moves easily 25 Special tips e Keep the kitchen well ventilated during the Self Cleaning cycle to help get rid of heat odors and smoke e After the oven is cool wipe up any residue or ash with a damp cloth or sponge If any spots remain clean with a mild abra sive cleanser or cleaning sponge e

8. to adjust the offset temperature to get the desired cooking results You can determine cooking results by the amount of browning moistness and rising times for baked foods ADJUST BY THIS NUMBER OF DEGREES FAHRENHEIT TO MAKE FOOD A little more done Moderately more done Much more done A little less done Moderately less done Much less done USING YOUR RANGE Broiling NOTES e Preheating is not necessary when broiling Leave the door partly open whenever using the oven to broil This allows the oven to maintain proper temperatures 1 Position rack See Broiling rack position chart on page 19 2 Put food on broiler pan and place in center of oven rack 3 Position door Close the door to the Broil Stop position open about 4 inches 10 cm The door will stay open by itself 4 Press Custom Broil pad PRESS YOU SEE CUSTOM BROIL 5 Start oven PRESS YOU SEE NOTE You can change the temperature aint setting any time after pressing the Start bits Enter pad To change the setting see AL To custom broil at a lower temperature on page 19 After changing the setting you must press the Start Enter pad again 6 When broiling is done turn off PRESS YOU SEE oven time of day 18 USING YOUR RANGE To custom broil at a lower temperature e If food is cooking too fast press the PRESS YOU SEE Custom Broil pad and press the Y Temp pad until 325 F

10. 16 USING YOUR RANGE Adjusting the oven temperature control Although your new oven is properly adjusted to provide accurate temperatures it may cook faster or slower than your old oven If after using the oven for a period of time you are not satisfied with the baking roasting results you can change the offset tempera ture by following these steps 1 Press and hold Bake pad for five seconds The display will show the current offset temperature for example 0 if you have not previously adjusted the temperature 2 Set new offset temperature Press A to raise the temperature or W to lower the temperature in 10 F amounts You can set the temperature change to as low as 30 F or as high as 30 F A minus sign will appear before the number when decreasing the tempera ture setting to show the oven will be cooler by the displayed amount There is no sign in front of the number when increasing the temperature setting 3 Enter the adjustment NOTE DO NOT measure oven temperature with a thermometer Opening the oven door will lower the oven temperature and give you an inaccurate reading Also the ther mometer temperature reading will change as your oven cycles PRESS YOU SEE factory setting of 0 YOU SEE example when making oven 10 F cooler PRESS YOU SEE time of day How to determine the amount of adjustment needed The chart at the right tells you how much

Clean the oven before it gets heavily soiled Cleaning a very soiled oven takes longer and results in more smoke than usual o If the Self Cleaning cycle does not get the oven as clean as you expected the cycle may not have been set long enough or you may not have prepared the oven properly Set the Self Cleaning cycle longer the next time and hand clean areas noted on page 23 How the cycle works The Self Cleaning cycle uses very high heat to burn away soil and grease During the cycle the oven gets much hotter than it does for normal baking or broiling This high heat breaks up the soil or grease and burns it away Your oven is preset for a 32 hour Self Cleaning cycle However you can adjust the cycle time to the amount of soil in your oven You can set the cycle time anywhere be tween 2 and 4 hours See Setting the controls on page 24 The graph at the right is representative of a normal 32 hour Self Cleaning cycle Note that the heating stops 1 2 hour before the 34 hour setting is up 26 875 F 468 C CLEANING CYCLE OVEN SHUT OFF DOOR LOCKS normal broiling temperature DOOR UNLOCKS Temperature START 1 STOP 2 Time In Hours Caring for Your Range Your range is designed for easy care You can do most cleaning with items found around your home Cleaning your range whenever spills or soiling occurs will help to keep it looking and operating like new Cleaning the cooktop T

20. e unit e NOTE For best results and greater energy efficiency use only flat bottomed cookware that makes good contact with the surface units Cookware with rounded warped ribbed such as some porcelain enamelware or dented bottoms could cause uneven heating and poor cooking results You can however use the newer cookware available with slightly indented bottoms or very small expansion channels This cookware is specially designed to provide the good contact needed for best cooking results Also woks canners and teakettles with flat bottoms suitable for use on your cooktop are now available in most stores that sell housewares e The pan should have straight sides and a tight fitting lid e Choose medium to heavy gauge thick ness pans that are fairly lightweight The pan material metal or glass affects how fast heat transfers from the surface unit through the pan material and how evenly heat spreads over the pan bottom Choose pans that provide the best cooking results Handles should be made of sturdy heat resistant material and be securely attached to the pan e With your hand feel the bottom of your pans while they are cool for nicks and scratches Nicks and scratches on pan bottoms will scratch the ceramic glass cooktop Make sure bottoms of pans are clean and dry before using on cooktop e Avoid spillovers on cooktop Use pans with tall sides e Do not cook food directly on cooktop NOTE D

23. his cooktop is designed for easy care However ceramic cooktops need to be maintained differently than standard electric open coil elements Foods spilled directly on the cooktop will not burn off as on open coil elements Because of this the surface should be dust free and soil free before heating Your cooktop has been prepolished at the factory for improved protection and cleana bility The Cooktop Polishing Creme included with your range paper towels or a sponge and a single edge razor blade in a holder is all you need to clean your cooktop For proper cleaning methods please review Cleaning tips on page 28 Follow them after each use to ensure top performance and to preserve that uniquely elegant look NOTE Let cooktop cool before cleaning To avoid damaging the cooktop follow these instructions e Sugar spills and soils such as jellies and candy syrups can cause pitting on the cooktop if not removed while the ceramic surface is still warm Remove as soon as possible after the spill occurs e Do not use the cooktop as a cutting board e Do not allow anything that may melt such as plastic or aluminum foil to come in contact with the surface while it is hot e Do not use the ceramic cooktop to cook popcorn that comes in prepackaged aluminum containers The container could leave aluminum marks on the cooktop that cannot be removed completely e Do not use steel wool plastic cleaning pads abrasive powd
