Use the following as a guide to determine where to place the pans One pan Place in the center of the oven rack Two pans Place in opposite corners of the oven rack Three or four pans Place in opposite corners on each oven rack Stagger pans so no pan is directly over another NOTE Oven peeking may cause heat loss longer cooking times and unsatisfactory baking or roasting results Use a reliable kitchen timer to keep track of the cooking time AWARNING Personal Injury Hazard e Always position oven rack s in desired location before turning oven on Be sure the rack s is level e lf rack s must be moved while oven is hot use potholders or oven mitts to protect hands Failure to follow the above precautions may result in personal injury USING YOUR RANGE Using aluminum foil for baking Use aluminum foil to catch spillovers from pies or casseroles e Place the foil on the oven rack below the rack with the food The foil should have the edges turned up and be about 1 inch 3 cm larger all around than the dish holding the food e Do not cover the entire rack with aluminum foil It will reduce air circulation and cause poor cooking results e Do not line oven bottom or entire oven rack with foil or other liners Poor baking will result AWARNING Electrical Shock and Fire Hazard Do not allow foil to touch the heating elements because it will damage them and could result in shock or fire

8. large diameter of most water bath or pressure canners combined with high heat settings for long periods of time can shorten the life of surface units and cause damage to the cooktop If you plan to use the cooktop for canning we recommend the installation of a Canning Kit Order the kit Part No 242905 from your Whirlpool dealer or authorized Whirlpools service company To protect your range e Use flat bottomed canners pans for best results e For best results use the largest surface unit Also use a canner pan which can be centered over the surface unit and which does not extend more than one inch outside surface unit area Large diameter canners pans if not properly centered trap heat and can cause damage to the cooktop e Do not place canner on two surface units at the same time Excessive heat build up will damage the cooktop Start with hot water This reduces the time the control is set on high Reduce heat setting to lowest position needed to keep water boiling e Keep reflector bowls clean for best heat reflection e To prolong the life of the elements Prepare small batches at a time Do not use elements for canning all day Cookware tips There is no one brand of cooking utensil that is best for all people Knowing something about pan materials and construction will help you select the correct cooking utensils for your needs e For best results and greater energy efficiency use only f

26. han two hours before cooking starts e Do not allow food to remain in oven for more than two hours after the end of cooking cycle NOTE Do not use foods that will spoil while waiting for cooking to start Such foods are dishes with milk or eggs cream soups and cooked meats or fish Also foods containing baking powder or yeast will not rise properly when cooked using delay start 24 USING YOUR RANGE The oven vent Hot air and moisture escape from the oven meee through a vent under the right rear surface unit You can cook on the unit or keep food warm on it while the oven is on The vent is needed for air SZ CO circulation Do not block the vent Poor baking roasting can result NOTE Plastic utensils left over the vent can melt Oven vent COQ AWARNING Burn and Fire Hazard If you leave a utensil on the right rear surface unit use potholders when moving it Pan handles can become hot enough to burn Keep flammable materials away from oven vent Failure to do so can result in burns or a fire The storage drawer The storage drawer is for storing pots and pans The drawer can be removed to make it easier to clean under the range Use care when handling the drawer Removing the storage drawer 1 Empty drawer of any pots and pans before removing drawer Pull drawer straight out to the first stop Lift front and pull out to the second stop 2 Lift back slightly and slide drawer all the way out
27. hazard The electronic oven controls Clock set pad DELAY COOK sToP START TIME TIME TNE Electronic MEALTIMER pads control There are three parts in the oven control section The display The command pads The control knobs Instructions for the oven control are covered on the following pages Read them carefully When you first plug in the range 88 88 will appear in the display If after you set the clock page 11 88 88 again appears on the display your electricity was off for a while Reset the clock 10 Display Minute timer TEk Off cancel pad pads pad Display clock When you are not using the oven this is an accurate clock When using the oven or Minute Timer the display will show the time settings and what command pads have been pressed When showing the time of day the display will show the hour and minutes When using the Minute Timer the display shows minutes and seconds in the following sequence For settings from 1 59 minutes the display will count down each second e For settings over 1 hour the display will count down each minute When using Cook Time and or Stop Time the display shows hours and minutes Control knobs There are two control knobs the Oven Selector and the Oven Temperature Control Knob The Oven Selector tells the oven which mode you wish to cook in Bake Broil Time Bake while the Oven Temperature Control Kn
28. iler grid Grease can then drain away and cool in pan USING YOUR RANGE J Using the electronic MEALTIMER control The electronic MEALTIMER control will turn the oven on and off at times you set even when you are not around Automatic baking roasting is ideal for foods which do not require a preheated oven such as meats and casseroles Do not use the automatic cycle for cakes cookies etc undercooking will result This section instructs you in two methods of starting baking roasting now and stopping automati cally later and three methods of starting and stopping automatically Read this section carefully to determine which method s is best for you To start baking roasting now and stop automatically Method 1 Using Cook Time 1 Position the oven rack s properly and put food in the oven 2 Make sure the clock is set to the correct time of day See Setting the clock on page 11 3 Set the Oven Selector to TIME BAKE ThaPeRATURE 4 Set the Oven Temperature Control Knob to the desired temperature 5 Push the Cook Time pad 0 00 with the colon flashing and the Cook Time Indicator Light will show in the display 6 Use the Hour and Minute pads to set the de sired cooking time Push the up A or down Y pad s until the correct time shows in the display This example shows a desired baking roasting time of 30 minutes IN Z J
29. it In either case some of the heat that s meant to go into or around a utensil goes down and heats the reflector bowl This extra heat can discolor it 28 CARING FOR YOUR RANGE Lift up cooktop 1 Lift front of cooktop at both front corners until the support rods lock into place AWARNING Personal Injury and Product Damage Hazard e Be sure both support rods are fully extended and in the locked position Failure to do so could result in personal injury from the cooktop accidentally falling e Do not drop the cooktop Damage can result to the porcelain and the cooktop frame 2 Wipe with warm soapy water Use a soapy steel wool pad on heavily soiled areas 3 To lower the cooktop lift cooktop from both sides while pressing the support rods back to unlock them Lower the cooktap into place Removing the oven door Removing the oven door will help make it easier to clean the oven AWARNING Burn and Electrical Shock Hazard Make sure all controls are OFF and the oven is cool before removing oven door Failure to do so can result in burns or electrical shock h Open the door to the first stop position 2 Hold the door at both sides and lift it at the same angle it is in 3 To replace fit the bottom corners of the door over the ends of the hinges Push the door down evenly The door will close only when it is on the hinges correctly 29 CARING FOR YOUR RANGE Cleaning chart Use the
30. lat bottomed utensils that make good contact with the surface units To check the flatness of a utensil Turn it over and check the bottom of the pan by placing a ruler across tt Rotate the ruler in all directions There should be no gaps between the pan and the ruler NOTE Woks canners and teakettles with flat bottoms suitable for use on your cooktop are now available in most houseware stores or departments e The pan should have straight sides and a tight fitting lid Choose medium to heavy gauge thickness pans that are fairly lightweight Remember that a very heavy pan will be even heavier when filled with food e The pan material metal or glass affects how fast heat transfers from the surface unit through the pan material and how evenly heat spreads over the pan bottom Choose pans that provide the best cooking results Handles should be made of a sturdy heat resistant material and be securely attached to the pan e Do not leave an empty utensil or one which has boiled dry on a hot surface unit It can overheat and may damage the utensil or surface unit e Do not use canners woks and specialty utensils with rounded warped ridged or dented bottoms These could cause severe overheat ing which damages the utensil and or surface unit A CAUTION Product Damage Hazard If a surface unit stays red for a long time the bottom of the pan is not flat enough or is too small for the surface unit Prolo

32. nged usage of incorrect utensils for long periods of time can result in damage to the surface unit cooktop wiring and surrounding areas To prevent damage use correct utensils start cooking on HI and turn control down to continue cooking USING YOUR RANGE Positioning racks and pans For baking roasting with one rack the rack should be placed so the top of the food will be centered in the oven Always leave at least 11 2 to 2 inches 4 5 cm between the sides of the pan and the oven walls and other pans For proper cooking follow these guidelines for specific foods Angel and bundt cakes yeast breads frozen pies large roasts and turkeys place rack on lowest level e Casseroles muffins most quick breads and meats place rack on second or third level from bottom e Cookies biscuits cakes and non frozen pies place rack on second or third level from bottom When baking on two racks arrange racks on bottom and third level from bottom NOTE For recommended rack placement when broiling see Broiling rack position chart on page 15 For best air circulation The hot air must circulate around the pans in the oven for even heat to reach all parts of the oven This results in better baking e Place the pans so that one is not directly over the other e Allow 11 2 to 2 inches 4 5 cm of space around each pan and between pans and oven walls e Use only one cookie sheet in the oven at one time

35. t may cook better if you use lower broiling temperatures The Oven Selector must be on BROIL for all broiling temperatures NOTE The oven door must be partly open whenever the oven is being used to broil Leaving the door open allows the oven to maintain proper temperatures 14 Broiling rack position chart TYPE OF FOOD DONENESS Quickly searing food rare steaks RACK POSITION FROM BOTTOM Medium steaks and patties ham slices fish steaks frankfurters Well done steaks and patties lamb chops split chicken pork steaks and chops whole fish Broiling tips e Use the broiler pan and grid for broiling They are designed to drain excess liquid and fat away from the cooking surface to help prevent spatter smoke or fire e Refer to a broiling chart in a reliable cookbook for correct broiling times e After broiling remove the broiler pan from the oven when you remove the food Drippings will bake on the pan if it is left in the heated oven USING YOUR RANGE AWARNING Fire Hazard e Place meat the correct distance from the element Meat placed too close to the element may spatter smoke burn or catch fire during broiling e To ensure adequate grease drainage do not use cookie sheets or similar pans for broiling Also covering the broiler grid with foil is not recommended Poor drainage of grease may result in fire If foil is used cut slits in foil to correspond with all openings in bro
36. tor to BAKE SELECTOR TOMPLRATURE 3 Set the Oven Temperature Control Knob to the baking roasting temperature you want The OVEN HEATING Indicator Light will come on The oven is preheated when the OVEN HEATING Indicator Light first goes off NOTE Do not preheat oven when roasting or cooking items such as casseroles 4 Put food in the oven During baking roasting the elements will turn on and off to maintain the temperature setting The OVEN HEATING Indicator Light will turn on and off with the elements NOTE The top element helps heat during baking roasting but does not turn red 5 When baking roasting is done turn both the Oven Selector and the Oven Temperature Control Knob to OFF The OVEN HEATING Indicator Light will go off Adjusting the oven temperature control Does your oven seem hotter or colder than your old oven The temperature of your old oven may have shifted gradually without you noticing the change Your new oven is properly adjusted to provide accurate temperatures But when compared to your old oven the new design may give you different results If after using the oven for a period of time you are not satisfied with the temperature settings they can be adjusted by following these steps 1 Turn the Oven Temperature Control Knob to the off position Pull knob straight off and flip it over 13 USING YOUR RANGE 2 Loosen the locking screws inside the control Locking Tooth Notches knob
