Features H elp Connecting ReplayTV to a DSL Modem Connecting ReplayTV to a DSL modem is the same as connecting it to a cable modem with a few exceptions Refer to Connecting ReplayTV to a Cable Modem on page 13 with the following additions The DSL modem you own might be a DSL router If you are not sure contact your ISP or DSL modem provider If it is a router it can automatically assign an IP address to ReplayTV If you have PPPoE Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet DSL you have to log on through software before you can access the Internet you cannot connect ReplayTV directly to your DSL modem unless it is also a router PPPoE accounts require that the user log on with a username and password Software is nor mally provided for your computer to do this If you purchase a router to use with your PPPoE account verify that it supports PPPoE Router Setup The default settings for routers are normally sufficient for ReplayTV to connect to the ReplayTV Service for the daily Channel Guide listings and occasional software updates Follow the instructions below if you are experiencing connection issues or if you intend to share your recordings with other ReplayTVs Recommended Routers 1 If you are not manually specifying the IP address on ReplayTV verify that DHCP is enabled on your router You should specify the IP address of ReplayTV if you are sharing recordings Some routers will allow you to automatically assign the same I

16. and the entry will be added to your Address Book Change Internet Identity Selecting this option lets you change the name of your ReplayTV and specify the port number of your router s firewall that will allow others to send you shows To change the ReplayTV name Type in a new name for your ReplayTV using the on screen keyboard Your ReplayTV s name will not be updated in a remote ReplayTV s Address Book until the next time that unit is contacted The port number is one that you have programmed on your router to open and allows access to your ReplayTV so friends can send you shows directly Please refer to your router manual for instructions on Port Routing The available range of port numbers must be 00000 or within 01024 and 65535 The standard show menu options will be available after the download starts 51 Connections G etting Started Setup Basic O perations Advanced Features H elp COMMERCIAL ADVANCE If you ever wanted to watch TV without commercials then COMMERCIAL ADVANCE is what you ve been waiting for COMMERCIAL ADVANCE is a feature that allows you to choose whether to skip most commercial messages dur ing playback of recorded shows Commercials are still recorded with COMMER CIAL ADVANCE enabled though you now have the choice to watch them or not automatically Commercials will not be skipped during the first and last two minutes when play ing back recorded shows T

G etting Started Setup Basic O perations Advanced Features H elp ings park in reserved spots but they will be promptly towed if a guaranteed recording needs to park After all the non guaranteed recording was parking in the guaranteed recording s spot Recording Priorities If you have created many Replay channels it is possible that eventually two scheduled recordings will conflict with each other The following recording priorities are numbered from highest priority to lowest 1 Guaranteed Single record and Show based recordings If a change in television schedules puts guaranteed Show based channels into a recording conflict with each other the Replay channel created first will be recorded 2 Guaranteed Zone and Theme based recordings If two or more Guaranteed Zone or Theme based recordings start at the same time the show airing on the lowest numbered Channel Guide channel will be recorded 3 All non guaranteed recordings If two or more non guaranteed recordings overlap recording times the show that starts first will be recorded If two or more non guaranteed recordings start at the same time Show based recordings take priority over Zone and Theme based recordings 4 Non guaranteed Single record and Show based recordings If two or more non guaranteed Show based recordings start at the same time the show airing on the Replay channel created first will be recorded 5 Non guaranteed Zone and Theme based recordings

IR emitter The IR blaster occasionally misses channel change commands Sometimes the IR blaster sends too strong of a signal to your cable box or satellite receiver causing it to miss a digit in the channel change sequence Affix the IR emitter next to or 1 2 inch away from the IR detector on your cable box or satellite receiver instead of directly over it ReplayTV does not respond when I press buttons on the remote control Or the image on my television screen is frozen Press and hold the POWER button on the front of ReplayTV for 10 seconds then release ReplayTV will restart in a few moments Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet for 15 seconds then plug it back in ReplayTV will restart and power on in a few moments 59 Connections G etting Started Setup Basic O perations Advanced Features H elp A Please Wait message displays more than 2 5 minutes during first time Quick Setup ReplayTV might not be communicating with your network This may be caused by ReplayTV receiving non standard DHCP information Unplug ReplayTV from both your network and electrical outlet Disable DHCP on your network Plug ReplayTV back in to an electrical outlet and complete the Quick Setup screens Manually enter your Network Information IP Address Subnet Mask Gateway DNS Server 1 DNS Server 2 optional When I select a channel in the Chan nel Guide the cha

96. sociated with ReplayTV s IP address Finding the Router IP Address Your router will have both a WAN External and LAN Internal IP address If you are specifying the IP address on ReplayTV the information you will use to set up ReplayTV will come from the LAN settings Check the documentation that shipped with your router It normally has the default IP settings If supported use Netscape or Internet Explorer to look at the configuration settings on your router For most routers all you need to do is enter the IP address of the router into your Web browser Use the included software that shipped with your router to check its IP settings If you have a PC connected to the router you can use IPCONFIG or WINIPCFG on your PC to get the IP information you will need See Finding your Computer s Network Information on page 19 for further details 19 Finding your Computer s Network Information If your home network does not have a DHCP server a router for example you will need to manually set the IP address on ReplayTV You can use the network information from your computer to determine what the IP address should be Following are steps to find this information for common computer systems Windows 9x or Millennium 1 Go to the Start menu on your PC and select Run 2 Type WINIPCFG and select OK 3 Select the correct network adapter from the menu The network adapter from which you collect information must be connecte
