6. the 2 muffler mounting screws se curely 4 Reinstall muffler cover and 2 screws Tighten securely INSPECT MUFFLER AND SPARK ARRESTING SCREEN A WARNING The muffler on this prod uct contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer As the unit is used carbon deposits build up on the muffler and spark arresting screen and must be removed to avoid creating a fire hazard or affecting engine performance VIEW OF MUFFLER Spark arresting Replace the spark arresting screen every 50 hours of operation or if any damage or breaks in the screen are noted NOTE Do notattemptto clean the spark ar resting screen 1 Loosen and remove the 2 screws from the muffler cover Remove the muffler cover 2 Loosen and remove both screws from the exhaust diverter 3 Remove the exhaust diverter and spark arresting screen 4 Install new spark arresting screen 5 Reinstall exhaust diverter and both screws Tighten screws securely 6 Reinstall muffler cover and 2 screws Tighten securely NOTE If any part of the muffler is cracked broken or damaged we recommend that the muffler be replaced CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENTS There is no screw for idle adjustment on your blower The throttle lever is used to control engine speed The throttle lever can be placed in one of four positions STOP IDLE or MM FULL THROTTLE or 4 and one intermittent position If your engine will not run properly or you require furthe
7. tubes The rotating blades can cause serious injury Always disconnect the spark plug before performing maintenance or ac cessing movable parts WARNING If you receive your unit assembled check each step to insure your unit is properly assembled and all fasteners are secure Follow all safety information in the manual and on the unit e A standard screwdriver is required for as sembly BLOWER TUBE ASSEMBLY 1 Align the rib on the blower tube with the groove in the blower outlet slide the tube into place NOTE Knob must be loose enough to allow blower tube to be inserted in blower outlet Loosen knob by turning counterclockwise Blower Outlet Blower Tube y Grove L Rib Secure the tube by turning the knob clock wise Toremove the tube turn the knob counter clockwise to loosen the tube remove the tube VACUUM BAG ASSEMBLY 1 Open the zipper on the vacuum bag and insert the elbow tube 2 Push the small end of the elbow tube through the small opening in the bag Elbow aa Y Small S Opening v N Tube ee Zipper e gt Opening 235 NOTE Make sure edge ofthe small opening is flush against the flared area of the elbow tube and the rib on the elbow tube is on the bottom 3 Close the zipper on the bag Make sure the zipper is closed completely 4 Remove blower tube from engine 5 Insertthe elbow tube into the blower outlet Make sure elbow tube rib is ali

10. 5 hours of operation or yearly whichever comes first 1 Clean the cover and the area around it to keep debris from falling into the carburetor chamber when the cover is removed 2 Remove parts as illustrated NOTE Do not clean filter in gasoline or other flammable solvent Doing so can create a fire hazard or produce harmful evaporative emis sions 3 Wash the filter in soap and water 4 Allow filter to dry 5 Apply a few drops of oil to the filter squeeze filter to distribute oil 6 Replace parts REPLACE SPARK PLUG Replace spark plug each year to ensure the engine starts easier and runs better Set spark plug gap at 0 025 inch Ignition timing is Tied nonadjustable y Twist then pull off spark plug boot z Remove spark plug from cylinder and dis card 3 Replace with Champion RCJ 6Y spark plug and tighten securely with a 3 4 inch socket wrench 4 Reinstall the spark plug boot REPLACE FUEL FILTER To replace fuel filter drain unit by running it dry of fuel then remove fuel cap retainer assem bly from tank Pull filter from tank and remove itfrom the fuel line Install new fuel filter on fuel line reinstall parts MET E Fuel Filter CHECK MUFFLER MOUNTING SCREWS Once each year ensure muffler mounting screws are secure and tightened properly to prevent damage Mounting Screws 1 Loosen and remove the 2 screws from the muffler cover 2 Remove the muffler cover 3 Tighten

14. any surface except a clean hard area when starting engine or while engine is running Debris such as gravel sand dust grass etc could be picked up by the air intake and thrown out through the discharge opening damaging the unit or property or causing serious injury to by standers or the operator HELPFUL TIP If your engine still does not start after following these instructions please call 1 800 554 6723 STARTING A COLD ENGINE 1 Move throttle lever to the position 2 Move choke lever to the FULL CHOKE position 3 Slowly press the primer button 8 times Throttle Lever Primer Button Choke Lever 4 Pull starter rope sharply until engine at tempts to run but no more than 5 pulls be low 30 F 8 pulls NOTE If engine attempts to start before the 5th pull go to next step immediately 5 Move the choke lever to the HALF CHOKE position 6 Pull the starter rope sharply until the en gine runs but no more than 5 pulls below 30 F 10 pulls 7 After a 5 second warm up move the choke lever to the RUN position 8 Allow the unit to run for 30 more seconds at the RUN position before moving the throttle lever to the position If engine has not started after 5 pulls at HALF CHOKE repeat STARTING A COLD ENGINE procedure If engine still does not start proceed to STARTING A FLOODED ENGINE 9 To stop the engine move the throttle lever to the STOP positio
15. ause engine damage When mixing fuel follow instructions printed on container Once oil is added to gasoline shake container momentarily to assure that the fuel is thoroughly mixed Always read and follow the safety rules relating to fuel before fueling your unit IMPORTANT Experience indicates that alcohol blended fuels called gasohol or using ethanol or methanol can attract moisture which leads to separation and formation of acids during storage Acidic gas can damage the fuel system of an engine while in storage To avoid engine problems empty the fuel system before storage for 30 days or longer Drain the gas tank start the engine and let it run until the fuel lines and carburetor are empty Use fresh fuel next season Never use engine or carburetor cleaner products in the fuel tank or permanent damage may occur NOTE Unit must be placed on its side when adding fuel see illustration below TO STOP THE ENGINE e To stop the engine move the throttle lever to the STOP position BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE AAWARNING You MUST make sure the tubes are secure before using the unit e Fuel engine Move at least 10 feet 3 me ters away from the fueling site 64 e Hold the unit in the starting position as shown Make sure the blower end is di rected away from people animals glass and solid objects STARTING POSITION WARNING When starting engine hold the unit as illustrated Do not set unit on

17. brooms to loosen debris be fore blowing In dusty conditions slightly dampen sur faces or use a mister attachment when wa ter is available Conserve water by using power blowers instead of hoses for many lawn and garden applications including areas such as gutters screens patios grills porches and gardens Watch out for children pets open windows or freshly washed cars Blow debris away safely Use the full blower nozzle extension so the air stream can work close to the ground After using blowers and other equipment CLEAN UP Dispose of debris in trash re ceptacles BEFORE STARTING ENGINE AWARNING Be sure to read the fuel information in the safety rules before you be gin If you do not understand the safety rules do not attempt to fuel your unit Call 1 800 554 6723 FUELING ENGINE WARNING Remove fuel cap slowly when refueling HELPFUL TIP To obtain the correct oil mix ratio pour 3 2 ounces of 2 cycle synthetic oil into one gallon of fresh gas This engine is certified to operate on unleaded gasoline Before operation gasoline must be mixed with a good quality synthetic 2 cycle air cooled engine oil designed to be mixed ata ratio of 40 1 Poulan PRO brand synthetic oil is recommended Mix gasoline and oil at a ratio of 40 1 A 40 1 ratio is obtained by mixing 3 2 ounces 95 ml of oil with 1 gallon 4 liters of unleaded gasoline DO NOT USE automotive oil or boat oil These oils will c

21. gned with the blower outlet groove 6 Turn knob clockwise to secure elbow tube VACUUM TUBE ASSEMBLY A WARNING Stop engine and be sure the impeller blades have stopped turning be fore opening the vacuum inlet door or at tempting to insert or remove the vacuum or blower tubes The rotating blades can cause serious injury 1 Align the lower vacuum tube as shown Push lower vacuum tube into upper vacu um tube Lower Vacuum Tube 2 Insert the tip of a screwdriver into the latch area of the vacuum inlet lt _ Blower Outlet lt Latch Area Vacuum Inlet Cover 3 Gently tilt the handle of the screwdriver to ward the back of the unit to release the latch while pulling up on the vacuum inlet cover with your other hand 4 Hold the vacuum inlet cover open until up per vacuum tube is installed Vacuum Inlet Retaining Post pS A Vacuum NA Inlet Cover 5 Place the hooks of the upper vacuum tube on the retaining posts of the unit 6 Pivot the tube until it is secured to the blower unit by the vacuum inlet latch PIVOT CH Retaining Post HOW TO CONVERT UNIT FROM VACUUM USE TO BLOWER USE 1 Remove the vacuum tubes by inserting the tip of a screwdriver into the latch area of the vacuum inlet 2 Gently tilt handle of screwdriver toward the back of the unit to release the latch while pulling up on the upper vacuum tube with your other hand

24. n STARTING A WARM ENGINE NOTE If fuel tank is empty add fuel then follow STARTING A COLD ENGINE proce dure Do not fill fuel tank while engine is hot 1 Move throttle lever to the position 2 Pull starter rope sharply until engine runs but no more than 5 pulls NOTE If engine has not started pull starter rope 5 more pulls If engine still does not run itis probably flooded 3 To stop the engine move the throttle lever to the STOP position STARTING A FLOODED ENGINE Flooded engines can be started by placing the choke lever in the RUN position Move throttle lever to the fast position 4 then pull rope until engine starts After engine starts move the throttle lever to the slow position 4 to allow engine to idle Starting could require pulling the starter rope many times depending on how badly the unit is flooded If unit still doesn t start refer to the TROUBLE SHOOTING TABLE or call 1 800 554 6723 MAINTENANCE AA WARNING Avoid touching muffler unless engine and muffler are cold A hot muffler can cause serious burns dA WARNING Stop engine and be sure the impeller blades have stopped turning be fore opening the vacuum inlet door or at tempting to insert or remove the vacuum or blower tubes The rotating blades can cause serious injury Always disconnect the spark plug before performing maintenance or ac cessing movable parts HELPFUL TIP IMPORTANT Have all repairs other than the r
