6. and engaging tines Loosen cable clip and push down on cable oniv enough to relieve spring tension Tighten cable clip e Recheck in OFF position and adjust if necessary a 14 FINAL CHECK ON POSITION e With tine control ON held down to handle push down on handle to raise tines off the ground e Slowly pull recoil starter handle while observing tines Tines should rotate forward e If tines do not rotate inner wire of control cable is too loose Loosen cable clip and pull cable up to remove slack and retighten clip e Recheck in ON position and adjust if necessary NOTE If ON position check required adjustment re check OFF position adjustment to insure tines do not rotate when control is OFF up FORWARD TINE CONTROL IN OFF UP POSITION ESA eat TINE CONTROL ON POSITION TO REPLACE V BELTS S See Figs 2 20 and d21 Replace V belts if they nave stretched considerably or if they show cracks or frayed edges There are two 2 V belts forward inside and reverse outside Riealt guard must he removed to service belts See TO REMOVE BELT GUARD in this section of manual NOTE Observe carefully routing of both belts and location of all belt guides before removing belts BELT REMOVAL e Remove reverse idler pulley from idler arm e Remove reverse outside V belt e Remove forward inside V belt from transmission pul ley first and

8. hours of continuous use Add SAE Sa CLEANER 30 motor oil or equivalent Tighten oil filler plug securely e CARTRIDGE each time you check the oil level TO CHANGE ENGINE OIL See Figs 11 and 12 Determine temperature range expected before oil change All oil must meet API service classification SF SG or SH e Be sure tiller is on level surface FIG 13 e Oil will drain more freely when warm e Catch oil in a suitable container COOLING SYSTEM See Fig 14 e Remove drain plug Your engine is air cooled For proper engine performance e Tip tiller forward to drain oil em and long life keep your engine clean e After oil has drained completely replace oil drain plug a o a ee eae and tighten securely e Clean airscreen frequently using a stiff bristled brush Ae oil filler plug Be careful not to allow dirt to Remove blower housing and clean as necessary enter the engine R E l e Refill engine with oil See CHECK ENGINE OIL Mos Ms E ea LEVEL in the ees section of this manual CYLINDER EINS BLOWER HOUSING AIR SCREEN OIL FILLER G 12 Do not operate tiller without muffler Do not tamper with exhaust system Damaged mufflers or spark arresters could create a fire hazard inspect periodically and replace if necessary If your engine is equipped with a spark Fem am arrester screen assembly remove every 50 hours foi cleaning and inspection Replace if damaged SPARK PLUG Replace spark plugs at
9. the beginning of each tiling season or after every 50 hours of use whichever comes first Spark plug type and gap setting are shown in PRODUCT SPECI FICATIONS on page 3 of this manual Your transmission is sealed and will not require lubrication unless serviced T engine wheels finish etc of ali foreign matter e Keep finished surfaces and wheels free of all gasoline oll etc e Protect painted surfaces with automotive type wax We do not recommend using a garden hose to clean your unit unless the muffler air filter and carburetor are covered to keep water out Water in engine can resultin a shortened engine life CAUTION Disconnect spark piug wire from spark plug and place wire where it cannot come into contact with plug TILLER TO ADJUST HANDLE HEIGHT See Fig 15 Factory assembly has provided lowest handie height Se lect handie height best suited for your tilling conditions Handle height will be different when tiller digs into soil e Ifahigherhandle height is desired loosen the four nuts securing handle panel to engine brackets e Slide handle panel to desired location e Tighten the four nuts securely ENGINE BRACKETS eN wee o Bo INIA gt NUTS ALSO 2 ON LEFT SIDE OF TILLER FIG 15 13 TINE ARRANGEMENT Your outer tines can be assembled in several different ways to suit de dle lng or coe ae needs CAUTION Tines are Penan Wear gloves or other protection

29. om side of belt guard e Loosen do not remove tine shield nut on underside of tine shieid e Pull belt guard out and away from unit e Replace belt guard by reversing above procedure Be sure slot in bottom of belt guard is under head of tine shield bolt and all nuts are tightened securely y CAP NUTS AND WASHERS BELT GUARD FIG 22 ENGINE TO ADJUST CARBURETOR See Fig 23 The carburetor has a high speed fixed jet and has been preset at the factory and adjustment should not be neces sary However minor adjustments may be required to compensate for differences in fuel temperature altitude or load If the carburetor does need adjustment proceed as follows In general turning the idle needle valve in clockwise decreases the supply of fuel to the engine giving a leaner fuel air mixture Turning the needle valve out counter clockwise increases the supply of fuel to the engine giving a richer fuel air mixture IMPORTANT DAMAGE TO THE NEEDLES AND THE SEATS IN CARBURETOR MAY RESULT IF SCREWS ARE TURNED IN TOO TIGHT PRELIMINARY SETTING e Aircleaner assembly must be assembled to the carbu retor when making carburetor adjustments With engine off turn idle needle valve in clockwise closing it finger tight and then turn valve out counter clockwise 1 1 2 turns FINAL SETTING e Start engine and allow to warm for five minutes Make final adjustments with engine running at icle and ti
