Throttle Lock out Starter Handle Throttle Trigger NOTE The throttle lock out is designed to prevent unintentional use of the throttle trig ger The lock out must be pressed with the palm of your hand as you grip the throttle han dle before the trigger can be used Set unit on a flat surface Move ON OFF switch to the ON position Slowly press the primer bulb 6 times Move choke lever to FULL CHOKE position by aligning lever with position shown on de cal see illustration below AON Choke position 5 Squeeze and hold trigger through all re maining steps 6 Pull starter rope handle sharply until en gine sounds as if it is trying to start but do not pull rope more than 6 times 7 As soon as engine sounds as if it is trying to start move choke lever to HALF CHOKE by aligning lever with position shown on decal see illustration below position BI decal ON 8 Pullstarter rope sharply until engine runs but no more than 6 pulls If the engine doesn t start after 6 pulls at the HALF CHOKE position move the choke lever to the FULL CHOKE position and press the primer bulb 6 times Squeeze and hold thethrottle trigger and pull the starter rope 2 more times Move the choke lever to the HALF CHOKE position and pull the start er rope until the engine runs but no more than 6 pulls NOTE If engine still doesn t start it is probably flooded Proceed to STARTING A FLOODED ENGINE 9 Once th

Always direct the blowing debris away from people animals glass and solid objects such as trees automobiles walls etc The force of air can cause rocks dirt or sticks to be thrown or to ricochet which can hurt people or animals break glass or cause other damage Never run unit without the proper equipment attached Check air intake opening frequently always with engine stopped and spark plug disconnected Keep vents and discharge tubes free of debris which can accumulate and restrict proper air flow Never place any object in air intake opening as this could restrict proper air flow and cause damage to the unit 13 Never use for spreading chemicals fertilizers or other substances which may contain toxic materials Toavoid spreading fire do not use near leaf or brush fires fireplaces barbecue pits ashtrays etc CULTIVATOR SAFETY WARNING Rotating tines can cause serious injury Keep away from rotating tines Stop the engine and disconnect the spark plug before unclogging tines or making repairs WARNING Inspect the area to be cultivated before starting the unit Remove all debris and hard and sharp objects such as rocks vines branches rope string etc Avoid heavy contact with solid objects that might stop the tines If heavy contact occurs stop the engine and inspect the unit for damage Never operate the cultivator without the tine cover in place and properly secured Keep the tines an

9. petrol must be mixed with a good quality 2 cycle air cooled engine oil We recommend using a good quality fully synthetic oil mixed at a ratio of 40 1 2 5 A 40 1 ratio is obtained by mix ing 5 liters of unleaded petrol with 0 125 liter of oil DO NOT USE automotive oil or boat oil These oils will cause engine damage When mixing fuel follow instructions printed on oil con tainer Once oil is added to gasoline shake con tainer momentarily to assure that the fuel is thor oughly mixed Always read and follow the safety rules relating to fuel before fueling your unit IMPORTANT Experience indicates that alcohol blended fuels called gasohol or using ethanol or methanol can attract moisture which leads to separation and formation of acids during storage Acidic gas can damage the fuel system of an engine while in storage To avoid engine problems empty the fuel system before storage for 30 days or longer Drain the gas tank start the en gine and let it run until the fuel lines and carbure tor are empty Use fresh fuel next season Nev er use engine or carburetor cleaner products in the fuel tank or permanent damage may occur HOW TO STOP YOUR UNIT To stop the engine move the ON OFF switch to the OFF position HOW TO START YOUR UNIT WARNING Avoid any contact with the muffler A hot muffler can cause serious burns STARTING A COLD ENGINE or a warm engine after running out of fuel Starting Position

11. the cutting blade Keep the cutting blade and air vents clear of debris POLE PRUNER SAFETY WARNING The reciprocating blade rotating chain can cause severe injury In spectthe unit before use Do not operate unit with a bent cracked or dull blade or dull chain Keep away from the blade chain WARNING The reciprocating blade rotating chain is sharp Do not touch To pre vent serious injury always stop engine and ensure blade chain has stopped moving dis connect spark plug and wear gloves when changing or handling the blade or chain A WARNING A coesting blade rotating chain can cause injury while it continues to move after the engine is stopped Maintain proper control of the unit until the blade chain has completely stopped moving Keep hands face and feet at a distance from all moving parts Do not attempt to touch or stop the blade or chain when it is moving AS WARNING Falling objects can cause severe head injury Wear head protec tion when operating this unit with a pole prun er attachment A WARNING To prevent serious injury do not use more than one boom extension with a pole pruner attachment 14 WARNING Keep the pruner away from power lines or electrical wires Only use for pruning limbs or branches up to 4 inches in diameter Do not operate the unit faster than the speed needed to prune Do not run the unit at high speed when not pruning Always stop the unit when work is de

GED OR WORN PARTS Contact an authorized service dealer for re placement of damaged or worn parts ON OFF Switch Ensure ON OFF switch functions properly by moving the switch to the OFF position Make sure engine stops then restart engine and continue Fuel Tank Discontinue use of unit if fuel tank shows signs of damage or leaks Debris Shield Discontinue use of unit if debris shield is damaged INSPECT AND CLEAN UNIT AND LABELS After each use inspect complete unit for loose or damaged parts Clean the unit and labels using a damp cloth with a mild deter gent Wipe off unit with a clean dry cloth 15 CLEAN AIR FILTER A dirty air filter decreases engine perform ance and increases fuel consumption and harmful emissions Always clean after every 5 hours of operation 1 Clean the cover and the area around it to keep dirt from falling into the carburetor chamber when the cover is removed 2 Remove parts as illustrated NOTE Donotclean filter in gasoline or other flammable solvent to avoid creating a fire haz ard or producing harmful evaporative emis sions 3 Wash the filter in soap and water 4 Allow filter to dry 5 Replace parts SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS REPLACING THE LINE 1 Press the tabs on the side of the trimmer head and remove cover and spool SSS aE C AM Cover Ss N a e Tab ber Tr ER TES Tap Button 2 Remove any remaining line 3 Clean dirt and debris from all parts

MENT A WARNING Keep others away when making idle speed adjustments The trimmer head will be spinning during most of this pro cedure Wear your protective equipment and observe all safety precautions After making adjustments the trimmer head must not move spin at idle speed The carburetor has been carefully set at the factory Adjustments may be necessary if you notice any of the following conditions Engine will not idle when the throttle is re leased The trimmer head moves spins at idle speed Make adjustments with the unit supported so the cutting attachment is off the ground and will not make contact with any object Hold the unit by hand while running and making ad justments Keep all parts of your body away from the cutting attachment and muffler Idle Speed Adjustment Allow engine to idle Adjust speed until engine runs without trimmer head moving or spinning idle speed too fast or engine stalling idle speed too slow Turn idle speed screw clockwise to in crease engine speed if engine stalls or dies A WARNING Perform the following steps after each use Allow engine to cool before storing or trans porting Store unit and fuel in a well ventilated area where fuel vapors cannot reach sparks or open flames from water heaters electric motors or switches furnaces etc Empty fuel tank before storing or transport ing the unit Store unit and fuel well out of the reach of children Store unit with all gua

Re place spool if it is worn or damaged 4 Replace with a pre wound spool or re place line using a 4 5 meters length of 2 4 mm diameter Partner amp brand line 5 When installing new line on an existing spool hold the spool as shown in the il lustration below 6 Bend the line at the midpoint and insert the bend into the slot in the center rim of the spool Ensure line snaps into position in the slot Air Filter Cover Replace the spark plug each year to ensure the engine starts easier and runs better Set spark plug gap at 0 6 mm Ignition timing is fixed and nonadjustable 1 Twist then pull off spark plug boot 2 Remove spark plug from cylinder and dis card 3 Replace with Champion RCJ 6Y spark plug and tighten securely with a 19 mm Socket wrench 4 Reinstall the spark plug boot 7 With your finger between the lines wrap the lines evenly and firmly around the spool in a clockwise direction 8 Position the lines in the guide slots Guide Slot 9 Insert the ends of the lines through exit holes in the sides of the cover 10 Place the spool in the cover 11 Make sure the lines are not caught be tween the rim of the spool and the wall of the cover 12 Reinstall the spool and cover onto the trimmer head Push until cover snaps into place BLADE REPLACEMENT Refer to the ASSEMBLY section for blade re placement instructions and illustrations 16 CARBURETOR ADJUST

17. bout 6 inches 15 cm below the waist 3 Fasten the strap hook to the clamp located between the trigger handle and the handle bar clamp base and lift the tool to the operat ing position 4 Try on shoulder strap and adjust for fit and balance before starting the engine or be ginning a cutting operation NOTE It may be necessary to relocate the shoulder strap clamp on the shaft for proper balancing of unit TO RELOCATE SHOULDER STRAP CLAMP 1 Loosen and remove both clamp screws 2 Place the upper shoulder strap clamp over the shaft 3 Position the lower shoulder strap clamp under the shaft and align the upper and lower clamp screw holes Upper Shoulder Strap Clamp Lower eae Strap Clamp l Screws 4 Insert two screws into the screw holes 5 Secure shoulder strap clamp by tighten ing screws with a hex wrench HARNESS ADJUSTMENT FOR BALANCE 15 cm below waist 30 inches 76 cm CONFIGURING YOUR UNIT You can configure your unit using a cutting head for grass and light weeds or a weed blade for cutting grass weeds and brush up to 1 cm in diameter To assemble your unit go to the sec tion for the desired configuration and follow the instructions ASSEMBLY INFORMATION TRIMMER HEAD val TRIMMER NOTE Remove the blade and metal shield be fore attaching the plastic shield and trimmer head To remove blade align hole in the dust cup with the hole in the side of the gearbox by

19. d guard clear of debris After striking a foreign object stop the engine disconnect the spark plug and inspect the cultivator for damage Repair before restarting Disconnect attachment from the drive engine before cleaning the tines with a hose and water to remove any build up Oil the tines to prevent rust Always wear gloves when servicing or cleaning the tines The tines become very sharp from use e Do not run unit at high speed unless cultivating HEDGE TRIMMER SAFETY DANGER RISK OF CUT KEEP HANDS AWAY FROM BLADE Blade moves momentarily after the trigger is re leased Do not attempt to clear away cut ma terial when the blade is in motion Make sure the switch is in the OFF position the spark plug wire is disconnected and the blade has stopped moving before removing jammed material from the cutting blade Do not grab or hold the unit by the cutting blade Blades move Allow blades to stop momentarily before removing after the them from the cut trigger is released WARNING Inspect the area before starting the unit Remove all debris and hard objects such as rocks glass wire etc that can ricochet be thrown or otherwise cause injury or damage during operation e Do not use a cutting blade that is bent warped cracked broken or damaged in any other way Have worn or damaged parts replaced by your authorized service dealer Always keep unit in front of your body Keep all parts of your body away from
20. e engine starts allow it to run 10 seconds then move the choke lever to OFF CHOKE by aligning lever with position shown on decal see following illustration Allow the unit to run for 30 more seconds at OFF CHOKE before releasing the throttle trigger NOTE If engine dies with the choke lever in the OFF CHOKE position move the choke lever to the HALF CHOKE position and pull the rope until engine runs but no more than 6 pulls Choke position STARTING A WARM ENGINE 1 Move ON OFF switch to the ON position 2 Move the choke lever to the HALF CHOKE position 3 Squeeze and hold the throttle trigger Keep throttle trigger fully squeezed until the engine runs smoothly 4 Pullstarter rope sharply until engine runs but no more than 5 pulls 5 Allow engine to run 15 seconds then move the choke lever to the OFF CHOKE position NOTE If engine has not started pull starter rope 5 more pulls If engine still does not run it is probably flooded STARTING A FLOODED ENGINE Flooded engines can be started by placing the choke lever in the OFF CHOKE position then pull the rope to clear the engine of ex cess fuel This could require pulling the starter handle many times depending on how badly the unit is flooded If the unit still doesn t start refer to TROU BLESHOOTING TABLE OPERATING THE COUPLER This model is equipped with a coupler which enables optional attachments to be installed A WARNING Always stop unit and

34. s injury or damage to the unit Primary Hole sis Guide Recess Lower Attachment Secondary Hole Locking Release Button in Primary Hole For optional attachments see the AS SEMBLY section of the applicable attach ment instruction manual ATTACHING THE HANDLEBAR A DANGER To avoid serious injury the barrier portion ofthe handlebar must be installed as shown to provide a barrier between operator and the spinning blade 1 Locate the decal on the handlebar This decal includes an arrow Position the han dlebar with the mounting bracket at the end of the arrow 2 Align hole in handlebar with pin on mount ing bracket Mounting Bracket 3 Position the bracket cover over the han dlebar Again make sure the handlebar is at the end of the arrow 4 Insert screws and hand tighten only Be sure the handlebar is installed correctly then tighten each screw securely with the hex wrench Handlebar Screw Mounting re Bracket ASSEMBLY OF SHOULDER STRAP Proper shoulder strap and handlebar adjust ments must be made with the engine com pe stopped before using unit Insert your right arm and head through the shoulder strap and allow it to rest on your left shoulder Make sure the danger sign is on your back and the hook is to the right side of your waist NOTE A one half twist is built in the shoul der strap to allow the strap to rest flat on the shoulder 2 Adjust the strap allowing the hook to be a
35. shown can result in serious injury to the operator The length of the shield must be aligned with the length of the shaft 1 Place the metal shield under the gearbox and align the screw holes Shield 2 Insert and thread the 4 mounting screws through the holes of the gearbox and the metal shield Tighten evenly and securely with the hex wrench provided INSTALLATION OF THE METAL BLADE A WARNING Wear protective gloves when handling or performing maintenance on the blade to avoid injury The blade is sharp and can cut you even when it is not moving A WARNING Do not use any blades or fastening hardware other than the washers and nuts shown in the following illustrations These parts must be provided by Partner and installed as shown below Failure to use proper parts can cause the blade to fly off and seriously hurt you or others NOTE The dust cup and retaining washer are located on the gearbox shaft and not in the parts bag All other fasteners mentioned in the follow ing assembly steps are in the parts bag 1 Remove the retaining washer from the threaded shaft of the gearbox Leave the dust cup on the shaft Install the blade and the retaining washer over the threaded shaft 3 Make sure the raised part of the retaining washer is facing the gearbox and the raised area fits into the hole in the center of the blade 4 Slide the blade and retaining washer onto the shaft of the gearbox 5 Place the cupped wash

37. to the ground Avoid pressing the head into the ground as this can scalp the ground and damage the tool SWEEPING The fanning action of the rotat ing line can be used to blow away loose debris from an area Keep the line parallel to and above the area surface and swing the tool from side to side Sweeping OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE WITH WEED BLADE 12 Blade Thrust is a reaction that only occurs when using a bladed unit This reaction can cause serious injury such as amputation Carefully study this section Itis important that you understand what causes blade thrust how you can reduce the chance of its occurring and how you can remain in control of unit if blade thrust occurs WHAT CAUSES BLADE THRUST Blade Thrust can occur when the spinning blade contacts an object that it does not cut This contact causes the blade to stop for an instant and then suddenly move or thrust away from the object that was hit The thrusting reaction can be violent enough to cause the operator to be propelled in any direction and lose control of the unit The uncontrolled unit can cause serious injury if the blade contacts the operator or others WHEN BLADE THRUST OCCURS Blade Thrust can occur without warning if the blade snags stalls or binds This is more likely to occur in areas where it is difficult to see the material being cut By using the unit properly the occurrence of blade thrust will be reduced and the operat
