ON Standard bolt N m ft lbs 100 72 80 58 60 43 40 29 o ey 2 D D 2 0 LL 20 14 Fastening time 004371 002359 Proper fastening torgue A CAUTION e Always be sure that the tool is switched off and the battery cartridge is removed before carrying out any work on the tool Selecting correct socket Always use the correct size socket for bolts and nuts An incorrect size socket will result in inaccurate and inconsistent fastening torque and or damage to the bolt or nut Installing or removing socket Align the hole in the side of the socket with the detent pin on the anvil and push it onto the anvil of the tool until it locks into place Tap it lightly if required To remove the socket simply pull it off The proper fastening torque may differ depending upon the kind or size of the bolt the material of the workpiece to be fastened etc The relation between fastening torque and fas tening time is shown in the figures Hold the tool firmly and place the socket over the bolt or nut Turn the tool on and fasten for the proper fastening time NOTE e When fastening screw M8 5 167 or smaller carefully adjust pressure on the switch trigger so that the screw is not damaged e Hold the tool pointed straight at the bolt or nut e Excessive fastening torque may damage the bolt nut or socket Before starting your job always perform a test oper
9. ation to determine the proper fastening time for your bolt or nut Especially for the bolt smaller than M8 5 167 perform the above test operation to prevent the trouble on socket or bolt etc 11 002360 e f the tool is operated continuously until the battery cartridge has discharged allow the tool to rest for manen IG Dol 15 minutes before proceeding with a fresh battery ve The fastening torque is affected by a wide variety of factors oo including the following After fastening always check the torque with a torque wrench M12 1 2 M 1 When the battery cartridge is discharged almost com pletely voltage will drop and the fastening torque will be reduced 2 Socket e Failure to use the correct size socket will cause a reduction in the fastening torque feg 2 o 2 D E D 2 n ou Li N Proper fastening torque Fastening time e A worn socket wear on the hex end or square end will cause a reduction in the fastening torque 3 Bolt e Even though the torque coefficient and the class of bolt are the same the proper fastening torque will differ according to the diameter of bolt e Even though the diameters of bolts are the same the proper fastening torque will differ according to the torque coefficient the class of bolt and the bolt length 4 The use of the universal joint or the extension bar some what reduces the fastening force of the impact wrench Compensate by fasten
10. cted situations Use safety equipment Always wear eye protection Dust mask non skid safety shoes hard hat or hearing protection must be used for appropriate conditions Tool Use and Care 12 13 14 15 16 17 Use clamps or other practical way to secure and support the workpiece to a stable platform Holding the work by hand or against your body is unstable and may lead to loss of control Do not force tool Use the correct tool for your application The correct tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it is designed Do not use tool if switch does not turn it on or off A tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired Disconnect battery pack from tool or place the switch in the locked or off posi tion before making any adjustments changing accessories or storing the tool Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the tool accidentally Store idle tools out of reach of children and other untrained persons Tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users When battery pack is not in use keep it away from other metal objects like paper clips coins keys nails screws or other small metal objects that can make a con nection from one terminal to another Shorting the battery terminals together may Cause sparks burns or a fire 18 19 20 SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES Maintain tools with care Keep cutting tools s

12. ing for a longer period of time 5 The manner of holding the tool or the material of driving position to be fastened will affect the torque 6 Operating the tool at low speed will cause a reduction in the fastening torque MAINTENANCE AN CAUTION e Always be sure that the tool is switched off and the battery cartridge is removed before attempting to perform inspection or maintenance 12 001145 A JIM 4 1 Limit mark 1 Brush holder cap 2 Screwdriver eS Ni Cd 004344 Replacing carbon brushes Remove and check the carbon brushes regularly Replace when they wear down to the limit mark Keep the carbon brushes clean and free to slip in the holders Both carbon brushes should be replaced at the same time Use only iden tical carbon brushes Use a screwdriver to remove the brush holder caps Take out the worn carbon brushes insert the new ones and secure the brush holder caps After replacing brushes insert the battery cartridge into the tool and break in brushes by running tool with no load for about 1 minute Then check the tool while running and elec tric brake operation when releasing the switch trigger If elec tric brake is not working well ask your local Makita service center for repair To maintain product SAFETY and RELIABILITY repairs any other maintenance or adjustment should be performed by Makita Authorized or Factory Service Centers always using Makita replacement parts ENO001 1
13. lor Insert the battery cartridge so that the plus and minus terminals on the battery cartridge are on the same sides as their respective markings on the charger Insert the cartridge fully into the port so that it rests on the charger port floor When the battery cartridge is inserted the charging light color will change from green to red and charging will begin The charging light will remain lit steadily during charging When the charging light color changes from red to green the charging cycle is complete If you leave the battery cartridge in the charger after the charging cycle is complete the charger will switch into its trickle charge maintenance charge mode After charging unplug the charger from the power Source NOTE The battery charger is for charging Makita battery cartridge Never use it for other purposes or for other manufacturer s batteries When you charge a new battery cartridge or a battery cartridge which has not been used for a long period of time it may not accept a full charge This is a normal condition and does not indicate a problem You can recharge the battery cartridge fully after discharging it completely and recharging a couple of times If you charge a battery cartridge from a just operated tool or a battery cartridge which has been left in a location exposed to direct sunlight or heat for a long time the charging light may flash in red color If this occurs wait for a while
