1. Do not place the radio near a heater or in direct sunlight In addition the radio should not be placed atop electronic devices that generate heat In most situations the best radio reception will be had when the KC 120ST and its antennas are near a window This is particularly true for the Atomic Clock radio receiver For proper remote control operation there must be an unobstructed path between the remote and the radio face The KC 120ST includes an auxiliary input allowing sound from computers TV sets MP3 players portable tape players or other device with a headphone output to play through the KC 120ST If this feature will be used keep in mind the length of the interconnect cable needed when selecting the location Connecting power Connect the supplied power adapter to the jack 22 on the back of the radio Plug the adapter into an un switched AC outlet Turn on the radio and verify operation Use only the supplied adapter Damage resulting from the use of adapters supplying the wrong voltage or polarity is not covered by the warranty Control and feature identification N Z Z 7 X DIMMER RAQA 56 S T m a M musicdock KC 120 Face 18 21 22 ee Rear panel LJ
2. 1 Press the ON STANDBY button 11 to turn the unit on If the radio does not begin playing press SOURCE button 10 to select AM or FM radio 2 Use the TUNING SKIP UP DOWN k PI button 7 to tune the radio There are two tuning modes You can hold either SKIP button down until you reach a particular frequency Or you can press either SKIP button for 1 second and then release to have the radio automatically seek the next receivable station 3 Radio reception is strongly influenced by antenna placement Tune in your favorite AM or FM station and position the respective antenna for best reception Storing favorite stations for easy access 1 Tune to an AM or FM station that you wish to add to your favorites 2 Press the MEM CLOCK SET button 15 and within 6 seconds press the PRESET button 23 1 to 10 times to choose location 1 to 10 to store the station on and within 6 seconds press the MEM CLOCK SET button 15 to store 3 Repeat the above process to store up to 10 AM and 10 FM favorites Accessing favorite stations 1 2 Turn the KC 120ST on Use the SOURCE button 10 to select AM or FM Repeatedly press the PRESET button 23 to step through the stored stations until the desired station is received Alarm setting The KC 120ST features two independent alarms These can be used for weekday and weekend or husband and wife use 1 TAs Press and hold Alarm1 or Alarm2 14 or 18 until the alarm time display

N Control and feature descriptions 1 SNOOZE DIMMER After the alarm has gone off pressing this bar initiates a 10 minute delay before the next wake up sound occurs The snooze function can be used repeatedly for up to 1 hour after the original wake up time This button also adjusts the main display brightness when the radio is off or manually activated I E not turned on by the alarm 2 VOLUME Rocker control adjusts the volume up or down 3 TIME PROJECTOR orientation adjustment Rotates the projected time digits 4 FOCUS Focuses the projected time digits 5 TIME PROJECTOR lens 6 UNIVERSAL WELL w dock for iPod Located below the removable protective cover Snap in the proper universal adapter and mount your iPod here Plays and charges the iPod 7 TUNING UP DOWN SKIP k gt gt I In radio mode AM or FM increases or decreases the received frequency When an iPod is present and playing controls the tracks or if held down allows searching within the current track 8 PLAY PAUSE Used to initiate and control playback of the iPod 9 ZONE Used to set East Central Mountain or Pacific Time zone 10 SOURCE Selects AM FM iPod or Aux Note When an iPod is mounted and play initiated the iPod mode is activated automatically The current mode is displayed in the main window 12 11 ON STANDBY Toggles between On and Standby modes 12 MAIN DISPLAY WINDOW Shows Time Zone signal strength of Atomic Clock sig
4. begins to flash While the display is flashing use the WAKE TO button 16 to select Radio Buzz or iPod If you select iPod be sure the iPod is mounted in the dock 6 While the display is flashing use the TUNING UP DOWN SKIP lt 4 PI button 7 to set the wake up hour Cycle through the first 12 hours to set a PM wake up time Press Alarm1 or Alarm2 14 or 18 again to set the minutes While the display is flashing use the TUNING UP DOWN SKIP K lt PI button 7 to set the minutes If you choose RADIO or iPod as your WAKE TO sound you can adjust the WAKE TO volume by pressing the VOLUME 2 and then setting the volume to the desired level Repeat the above steps to set the other alarm Activating the alarm 1 Press ALARM1 or ALARM2 briefly to turn on the respective alarm The corresponding alarm window will illuminate in the display Confirm that the wake up time shown is correct If you do not want the backlight to be on press ALARM1 or ALARM2 a second time to extinguish the backlight Press the ON STANDBY button 11 or the SLEEP button 16 so that the unit will be in standby mode when the wake up time arrives The alarm WILL NOT FUNCTION if the unit is playing at wake up time If radio was selected for the wake up sound tune to the station that you wish to wake to before completing step 2 Likewise if iPod was selected as the wake up sound be sure that your iPo
5. power outages They do not power the radio or the display Yearly replacement is recommended Install the CR2025 coin battery in the remote control __ Press to release To open the battery compartment use a fingernail to depress the release clip while pulling to the Pull battery right on the battery holder tray out a Your battery may be pre installed If it is pre 4 4 Insert with Pius Stalled there will be a small insulating tab signas shown protruding from the battery compartment at the ae back edge of the remote This tab if present gt 3i must be removed prior to use Replace the battery when the remote s operating range deteriorates Antenna preparation Unpack the AM antenna and snap it s cylindrical end onto the base mounting plate Stretch out the twisted cord and Insert the small rectangular plug at the end into the socket located at 19 on the back of the radio Note this plug is keyed and only fits one way Orient the AM antenna for best reception of your favorite AM station Unroll the FM wire antenna 20 and stretch it out This antenna is permanently attached to the back of the radio Position this antenna for best reception of your favorite FM station Select a location for your radio Because the radio generates heat during operation it is necessary to provide open space around it for proper cooling Failure to do so can significantly reduce the service life
6. the KC 120ST as an amplified speaker system Any device with a standard headphone output can play back through the KC 120ST by way of this connector 22 Power adapter connector 9 Volts DC 1500 mA center positive 23 Station preset button Remote control only feature Used to program quick access to 10 favorite FM and 10 favorite AM stations Explained in more detail later 24 Mute quiets the KC 120ST press a second time to un mute Atomic Clock Connect the 9V 1500 mA power adapter to the KC 120ST The display 12 should light Do not press the w ON STANDBY button 11 yet Press the ZONE 9 button to select your time zone The Illustration to the right shows Mountain Time Zone setting From left to right the blocks represent West Mountain Central and East Examine the upper left corner of the main display window 12 If the radio tower icon is visible and showing 2 or 3 strength marks the built in clock should synchronize itself to the government Atomic Clock broadcast within an hour If the time standard signal is weak auto setting may take up to 24 hours If the clock does not auto set after 24 hours reposition the radio for better signal strength or set the clock manually as described below Note The Atomic Clock receiver ONLY operates when the KC 120ST is in standby mode The clock will NOT set itself while the radio is playing The Atomic Clock receiver inside the KC 120ST picks up a

9. d is inserted in the dock before completing step 2 5 To turn off the alarm press ALARM1 OR ALARM2 until the corresponding alarm window becomes dark AND blank SNOOZE function 1 2 Available after the KC 120ST has been activated by one of the alarms Press the SNOOZE DIMMER button 1 to silence the unit for 10 minutes You can repeatedly press the SNOOZE button for up to one hour after the initial wake up time Pressing ON STANDBY 11 will disable the snooze timer ALARM1 14 or ALARM2 18 can also be turned off to disable to snooze timer DIMMER Al Press the SNOOZE DIMMER button 1 to adjust the brightness of the display Display brightness adjustment is available when the unit is in standby or has been turned on via the ON STANDBY button 11 The dimmer function is NOT available when the KC 120ST has been activated by one of the alarms Projected time brightness can be set to bright dim or off by pressing the WAKE TO button 17 while the KC 120ST is in standby mode iPod use 1 It is very important to use the correct adapter for your iPod The adapter aligns the connector on the bottom of the iPod with the connector on the KC 120ST Use of an oversize or worse no adapter can lead to mechanical damage to the iPod s connector or to the one on the KC 120ST Damage of this sort is NOT covered under the warranty Current and future dockable iPods ship with adapters that fit the unive
10. e KC 120ST Normally the volume of the external device should be set to approximately half of maximum and the listening volume controlled from the KC 120ST If you notice distortion at low volume turn down the volume on the external device 4 Laptop computers Portable DVD CD MP3 Tape players and hand held TVs are ideal devices to connect via the AUX input Room Temperature and Humidity are displayed in the main window 12 When the humidity is below 40 the display will show LO When it is above 90 it will show HI Likewise the display will show LO when the temperature is below 40 degrees and HI when the temperature is above 110 degrees User notes WARRANTY ONE YEAR NEW PRODUCT WARRANTY VALID ONLY IN THE U S A ON NON REFURBISHED PRODUCTS This musicdock by KLH product is warranted to be free from defects in workmanship and materials under normal use and service for a period of one year from the date of original purchase During the warranty period KLH agrees to repair or replace defective components without charge to the original purchaser To obtain service the purchaser must return the component to KLH The purchaser will pay all costs incurred in returning product to KLH KLH assumes no risk until the product is accepted at our facility Upon receipt and at its sole discretion KLH will repair or replace defective component using new or refurbished parts KLH agrees to return product to the purc

14. must progress through the following process with less than 10 seconds between steps to avoid dropping out of time set mode 1 If the KC 120ST is playing press the ON STANDBY button 11 to enter standby mode 2 Hold the MEM CLOCK SET button 15 down for 2 seconds The time display will begin flashing Note If this function is accidentally activated while the KC 120ST is playing do nothing and normal operation will resume after 10 seconds 3 Within 10 seconds press TUNING UP DOWN SKIP ke PI button 7 to set the hour Up increases the hour Down decreases the hour PM will be indicated in the main display window on alternate 1 through 12 cycles 4 Press MEM CLOCK SET 15 to advance to minute setting As before within 10 seconds press TUNING UP DOWN SKIP H 1 button 7 to set the minute The seconds will start from 00 when you move on from this step 5 Within 10 seconds press the MEM CLOCK SET 15 to move to the year setting Use the press TUNING UP DOWN SKIP ka PI button 7 to set the year 6 Within 10 seconds press the MEM CLOCK SET 15 again to advance to the month and day setting 7 Use the TUNING UP DOWN SKIP k PI button 7 to set the month and day 8 Press the MEM CLOCK ADJ 15 button one last time to finalize the setting Display brightness 1 Press the SNOOZE DIMMER button 1 to cycle the display backlight through bright medium dim and off Discussed in more detail later Using the radio
15. nal Humidity Temperature Time Volume Setting or Radio Frequency 13 ALARM 1 and 2 display windows Shows the status and set time of ALARM 1 and ALARM 2 14 ALARM 1 CONTROL The KC 120ST features two alarms that can be set independently Buttons 14 and 18 control the two alarms With them either alarm can be turned on off or set to wake at a particular time Holding 14 or 18 down for 2 seconds activates the set mode Use 7 to adjust the wake up time and the WAKE TO button 17 to select the wake up sound Alarm setting and the WAKE TO button are described in more detail later 15 MEM CLOCK SET Used when setting radio pre sets and manually setting the clock 16 SLEEP button Sets 120 90 60 30 or 15 minute delay until the KC 120ST enters a silent state allowing the user to go to sleep to music After activating SLEEP mode adjust the volume to the volume that you wish to wake to This setting is retained in memory so long as AAA batteries are installed 17 WAKE TO button Dual function button When either alarm display is flashing in set mode this button selects iPod radio or buzz as the wake up sound At other times it cycles the projected time display through On Bright On Dim and Off 18 ALARM 2 CONTROL See description for ALARM 1 14 19 AM antenna connector 20 FM wire antenna 21 AUX INPUT Connect an external MP3 player TV set computer game personal tape or CD player here to use
16. nd decodes the U S National Institute of Standards and Technology broadcast from Long Wave radio station WWVB located near Ft Collins Colorado The time information in the data stream from WWYVB is controlled by several atomic clocks located at the station s site These clocks are for all practical purposes the US time standard WWVEB is not a conventional radio station as it does not broadcast entertainment or human understandable information The frequency used by this station is 60 kHz which is well below the lower end of the AM radio band As such it is subject to significant interference from power lines fluorescent lights light dimmers etc Usually the signal from WWVB is strongest at night The power level used by the station is such that it can be received over most of the continental US and southern Canada for at least a few hours out of each 24 hour period Because the signal from WWVB must travel more than a thousand miles to the largest population centers and is subject to propagation conditions plus interference we cannot guarantee that the user will always be able to find a location where the KC 120ST will consistently set itself The time display will flash 12 00 until the clock automatically synchronizes with WWVB or until it is manually set If you notice the display flashing 12 00 after a power failure replace the two AAA batteries located in the compartment on the bottom of the KC 120ST Setting the clock Manually You
