1. Playback This recorder can play back all 3 types of recorded tape Recorded tape HR J481MS PAL MESECAM l l M ulti system receiver l TRE Built in CH H mesecam z i RF converter K I G H NTSC ale NTSC PAL gt NTSC 3 58 MHz 7 gt A M anual switching PAL B G D K H NTSC M M ulti system monitor PAL SECAM VIDEO OUT NTSC 3 58 AUDIO OUT NTSC 4 43 NOTES When viewing NTSC tapes on a PAL TV set The picture may shrink vertically with black bars appearing at the top and bottom of the screen This is not a malfunction on the part of the video recorder nor the TV The picture may roll up or down This can be corrected using the V HOLD control found on some TVs This cannot be corrected if the TV does not have a V HOLD control e During search still or frame by frame playback the picture will be distorted and there may be a loss of colour ATTENTION When this recorder is connected to a multi system TV the audio signal may not be heard or may be noisy if the colour system select switch of the TV is adjusted to the AUTO position In such a case set the TV s colour system select switch to the appropriate position which corresponds to the TV system you have selected at the TV System Select screen Information on Multi System Compatibility Tape To Tape Edit

5. signals or playback a NTSC4 43 tape NTSC gt PAL To playback a NTSC tape on PAL TV NOTE e The NTSC gt PAL mode does not work during recording In this mode NTSC signals will be recorded as NTSC3 58 e The Menu screen is distorted during playing back a NTSC tape on PAL TV Stop playback and access the Menu screen again In the NTSC4 43 mode with some TVs on screen displays Program screen etc may roll up or down and there may be a loss of colour When this happens select the N TSC3 58 mode E AUTO TIMER ON OFF When this function is set to ON The timer recording standby mode is automatically engaged when the recorder is turned off It is temporarily canceled when the recorder is turned on You do not have to press to engage or disengage the timer recording standby mode When this function is set to OFF You have to press to engage or disengage the timer recording standby mode WE 0 S D ON OFF W hen this function is set to ON various recorder status information on screen display appears on the screen NOTE When you use this recorder as the source player for editing a tape be sure to set this function to O FF otherwise the recorder status information on screen display will be recorded on the edited tape E AUTO SP gt LP TIMER ON OFF W hen this function is set to ON the recorder automatically switches to LP mode to allow co

Skip Search press PLAY B gt Recording Accidental erasure prevention To prevent accidental recording on a recorded cassette remove its record safety tab To record on it later cover the hole with adhesive tape co tab Basic Recording Turn on the TV and select the video channel orAV mode EF Load a cassette M ake sure the record safety tab is intact If not cover the hole with adhesive tape before inserting the cassette e The recorder turns on and the counter is reset automatically Select the appropriate colour system with PAL MESECAM and NTSC in Function settings FA Select recording channel On the remote control Press PR or the Number keys On the recorder Press PAUSE PR The channel display on the display panel starts blinking While the display is blinking press FF PR or REW PR to select channel After about 5 seconds the channel display stops blinking NOTES e You can select channel in the stop mode recording pause mode or during rewind fast forward high speed search e f no cassette is loaded or during recording pause mode you can select channel only by pressing FF CH or REW CH e f you connect the TV and the recorder only using the RF connection press TV VCR on the remote control so that the VCR mode indicator lights on the display panel to view the program to be recorded Set tape speed Press SP LP EP 4 47 E1 Start recording On the record
10. ace any naked flame sources such as lighted candles on the apparatus 8 AVOID violent shocks to the recorder during transport MOISTURE CONDENSATION M oisture in the air will condense on the recorder when you move it from a cold place to a warm place or under extremely humid conditions just as water droplets form on the surface of a glass filled with cold liquid Moisture condensation on the head drum will cause damage to the tape In conditions where condensation may occur keep the recorder s power turned on for a few hours to let the moisture dry How fo use the remote control The remote control can operate most of your recorder s functions as well as basic functions of TV cable box satellite receiver and DVD sets of JVC and other brands Point the remote control toward the sensor window on the target component e The maximum operating distance of the remote control is about 8m NOTES When inserting the batteries be sure to insert in the correct directions as indicated under the battery cover e f the remote control does not work properly remove its batteries wait for a few seconds replace the batteries and then try again Video heads cleaning Use a dry cleaning cassette TCL 2U X when e Rough poor picture appears while a tape is played back e The picture is unclear or no picture appears e USE CLEANING CASSETTE appears on the screen only with O S D set to ON a B

12. corder No setting is required for this function a Timer Recording Up to 8 timer recording programs can be made using Express timer programing method as far as a year in advance Remember the clock must be set before you can program the timer NOTES e If all the 8programs have already been set PROGRAM FULL appears on the TV screen e After timer recording is completed the recorder turns off automatically You can program the timer recording while a regular recording iS in progress the menu screens will not be recorded In case of a power failure after programming the recorders memory backup keeps your selections if the lithium battery is not exhausted Express Timer Programing Remember the clock must be set before you can program the timer e Load a cassette with the record safety tab intact The recorder turns on and the counter is reset automatically e Select the appropriate colour system with PAL MESECAM and NTSC in Function settings El Press PROG on the remote control to access the Program screen PA Press START STOP DATE T or PR repeatedly to enter the start SAT a time stop time date or channel Press and hold START or STOP to increase the time in 30 minute intervals To set the tape speed press SP LP EP 4 To timer record daily Monday Friday or weekly serials press DAILY or WEEKLY Pressing the bu

18. me normal playback If you press and hold REW lt lt or FF gt for more than 2 seconds simply releasing it cancels the picture search and normal playback resumes Picture search at variable speed including slow motion Press lt or gt repeatedly Press PLAY B gt to resume normal playback e Each time you press lt or the playback speed changes To decrease the speed during picture search press the opposite direction button repeatedly e During still picture press and hold gt to start forward slow motion playback When you release the button still picture resumes During still picture holding PAUSE Ill for more than 2 seconds also starts forward slow motion playback If you press PAUSE I again still picture resumes Playback When the tape is not running Rewind fast forward Press REW E or FF BP Eject the tape Press STOP EJECT W 4 You can also eject the cassette when the recorder is turned off Turn off the recorder Press POWER Playback Features Adjusting tracking condition tracking adjustment Automatic tracking adjustment Whenever you insert a tape and start playback automatic tracking starts working and continuously analyzes the signal to enable optimum picture quality during playback Manual tracking adjustment If automatic tracking cannot eliminate noises well during playback follow the procedures below El Press SP LP EP
19. mplete recording if there is not enough tape to record the entire program while timer recording in SP mode For Example Recording aPAL broadcast programme of 210 minutes in length onto a 180 minute tape Approximately 150 minutes Approximately 60 minutes Total 210 minutes NOTES e f you have programed the recorder to timer record 2 or more programs do not use this function but change the tape speed manually during timer programing There may be some noise and sound disturbance where the tape speed switches from SP to LP mode on the tape The Auto SP gt LP Timer feature is not available during ITR Instant Timer Recording and the feature will not work properly with any tapes longer than E 180 or with some tapes of shorter lengths Other Functions Multi Brand Remote Control This remote control can control some functions of remote controllable TVs cable boxes satellite receivers or DVD sets listed below Without setting you can control aJVC TV NOTES Some unit s brands have more than one code If the unit does not function with a specified code try other codes e Depending on the type of unit some or all functions cannot be operated using this remote control It s not possible to operate a unit not equipped with a remote sensor e t s not possible to set the remote control for two units at the same time Once you have set the remote control to operate the unit you do not have to set it u
