11. self test completes successfully e The Power LED stays on e The Fault LED stays off e Inthe default state the FDx LED stays on and the Spd LED stays off e The port LEDs on the front of the switch go into their normal operational mode Ifthe ports are connected to active network devices the Link LEDs should be on If the LED display is different than what is described above the self test has not completed correctly Refer to chapter 4 Troubleshooting for diagnostic help 2 7 Installing the Switch Installation Procedures 3 Mount the Switch After you have verified that the switch passes its self test you are ready to mount the switch in a stable location The switch can be mounted on a horizontal surface Horizontal Surface Mounting Place the switch on a table or other horizontal surface The switch comes with rubber feet in the accessory kit that can be used to help keep the switch from sliding on the surface Attach the rubber feet to the four corners on the bottom ofthe switch within the embossed angled lines Use a sturdy surface in an unclut tered area You may want to secure the networking cables and switch power cord to the table leg or other part of the surface structure to help prevent tripping over the cords Note Make sure the air flow is not restricted around the sides of the switch 4 Connect the Switch to a Power Source 1 Plug the included AC power adapter into the switch s power
12. want to assign an IP address to the switch that is compatible with your existing network However you first need to access the Web interface using the switch s default IP address The following procedure shows how to access the Web interface and change the switch s IP address 1 Place the switch close to the PC that you will use for configuration It helps if you can see the front panel of the switch while working on your PC Connect the Ethernet port of your PC to any port on the front panel of your switch start your PC if it is not already running connect power to the switch and when your PC has finished its start up seguence verify that you have a link by checking the LEDs on the front panel of the switch see LEDs on page 1 2 for more information Set your PC s IP address to be on the same subnet as the switch The default IP address of the switch is 192 168 2 10 and the subnet mask is 255 255 255 0 so the PC and switch are on the same subnet when they both have addresses that start 192 168 2 x If the PC and switch are already on the same subnet proceed directly to step 4 Otherwise you must manually set the PC s IP 3 1 Configuring the Switch Changing PC s IP Address address to 192 168 2 x where x can be any number from 1to 255 except 10 If you are unfamiliar with this process see Changing PC s IP Address on page 3 2 4 Open your Web browser and enter the address http 192 168 2 10
13. where the operating ambient temperature might exceed 40 C 104 F m Make sure the air flow around the sides of the switch is not restricted 2 4 Installing the Switch Installation Procedures 1 Prepare the Installation Site m Cabling Infrastructure To ensure proper operation when installing the switch into a network make sure that the current cables are suitable for 10Base T 100Base TX or 1000Base T operation Besureto follow the guidelines below to ensure proper operation when installing the switch into a network e Cable type Unshielded twisted pair UTP or shielded twisted pair STP cables with RJ 45 connectors maximum length 100 meters 328 ft Category 3 or better for 10Base T Category 5 or better for 100Base TX and Category 5 5e or 6 for 1000Base T e Protection from radio frequency interference emissions e Use electrical surge suppression e Use safe connections with no damaged cables connectors or shields m Installation Location Before installing the switch plan its location and orientation relative to other devices and equipment At the front of the switch leave at least 7 6 cm 3 inches of space for the twisted pair cabling At the back of the switch leave at least 2 6 cm 1 inch of space for the adapter s power cord 2 5 Installing the Switch Installation Procedures 2 Verify the Switch Passes Self Test Before mounting the switch in its network location you should
