Charger 34 and Charger Adapter 35 may become warm to the touch This is normal and does not indicate a problem T Once the Battery Pack 4 is fully charged disconnect the Charger Adapter 35 from the electrical outlet Then disconnect the Charger Adapter 35 and Battery Pack 4 from the Charger SKU 90120 For technical questions please call 1 800 444 3353 PAGE 10 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS NOTE For additional information regarding the parts listed in the following pages refer to the Assembly Diagram on page 14 A Remove the Battery 4 from the tool and set the Rotation utton 33 to its center locked position before making any adjustments changing accessories or storing the tool CHUCK SLEEVE ROTATION BUTTON 33 TORQUE SETTING RING 8 TORQUE INDICATOR ARREN TRIGGER BATTERY PACK 4 FIGURE E 2 To install a drill screwdriver bit hold the Chuck Sleeve firmly in place and turn the Chuck 12 counterclockwise Insert the shank of the bit all the way into the Chuck 12 While holding the Chuck Sleeve in place turn the Chuck clockwise to lock the bit in place The Chuck 12 accepts up to 3 8 diameter bits Insert the appropriate bit for your application and tighten the Chuck 12 firmly See Figure E above Secure the workpiece in place using a vise or clamps not included The Torque Setting Ring 8 allows you to select 16 different driving torque settings dependi

5. ment When using the Cordless Drill always maintain a firm grip on the tool with both hands Hold the tool by its insulated gripping surfaces when performing an opera tion where the Cordless Drill may contact hidden wiring Contact with a live wire will make exposed metal parts of the Cordless Drill live and shock the opera tor Do not use the Cordless Drill or Charger 34 if it has been dropped damaged left outdoors or immersed in liquid To avoid electrical shock do not pull or carry the Charger 34 by its Power Cord or pull the Power Cord around sharp corners or edges Do not unplug the Charger by pulling on the Power Cord Keep the Power Cord away from heated surfaces To avoid electrical shock do not handle the Charger 34 its Adapter 35 or the Cordless Drill with wet hands Keep the Handle of the Cordless Drill dry clean free from oil and grease Avoid unintentional starting Make sure you are prepared to begin work before turning on the Cordless Drill Never leave the Charger 34 unattended when it is plugged into an electrical outlet Make sure to unplug it from its electrical outlet before leaving PROPER BATTERY PACK CARE Battery Pack 4 leakage may occur under ex treme usage or temperature conditions If Battery Pack fluid comes in contact with skin wash with soap and water and rinse with lemon juice and vinegar If the fluid comes into contact with the eyes flush with water for several mi

9. dless Drill The Rotation Button 33 allows you to change the rotational direction of the Cord less Drill For a clockwise rotation move the Rotation Button to the right For a counterclockwise rotation move the Rotation Button to the eft The center position locks the Trigger 3 helping to prevent the Drill from operating See Figure E Make sure to hold the Cordless Drill firmly with both hands as torque from the Motor will cause the tool to twist Operate the Drill by squeezing the Trigger 3 The speed of the Drill can be con trolled by varying the pressure on the Trigger 3 If Drilling e Use the Drill torque setting as described above e Drill only as deep as necessary Do not drill deeper than necessary into walls or other areas where you cannot identify any possible hazards behind the drilling surface e To reduce jamming as the Bit breaks through the workpiece decrease the drill ing pressure when the point of the Bit breaks through the workpiece e When you have drilled the hole remove the Bit from the hole while the Cordless Drill is still running This prevents the Bit from getting caught in the hole and causing damage If Driving Screws e Start with a low torque setting e If the clutch starts slipping before the screw is in all the way stop the drill put the Reverse Button 33 in the center position remove the Battery 4 and change the torque setting Reinstall the Battery 4 and set the directio

14. ng on the job required Torque Settings 1 8 The different numbers on the Ring are an indication of how much torque the screwdriver will apply to the bit before the clutch slips allowing the bit to stop and helping to prevent damage to the screw bit or workpiece The higher the number the more torque is applied before the clutch slips Unless you are drilling always start with a lower number to help prevent damage This drill also has torque settings between the numbers to allow a greater range of control SKU 90120 For technical questions please call 1 800 444 3353 PAGE 11 Drill Setting ANY This setting essentially prevents the clutch from slipping entirely It is designed for drilling but is not advised for using the screwdriver because it offers no protection against stripping the head or splitting the wood Set the driving torque by turning the Torque Setting Ring 8 to align the torque indicator arrow with the desired setting See Figure E previous page When drilling in light gauge metal or wood use a wooden block to back up the material to prevent damage to the workpiece Mark the center of the hole to be drilled with a center punch to give a Drill Bit a start and to prevent it from walking Lubricate the Drill Bit with cutting oil when drilling iron or steel Use a coolant when drilling nonferrous metals such as copper brass or aluminum Insert the fully charged Battery Pack 4 into the Handle of the Cor

16. ted do not require grounding They have a special double insulation system which satisfies OSHA requirements and complies with the applicable standards of Underwriters Laboratories Inc the Canadian Stan dard Association and the National Electrical Code See Figure B 5 Double insulated tools may be used in either of the 120 volt outlets shown in the following illustration See Figure B SKU 90120 For technical questions please call 1 800 444 3353 PAGE 7 EXTENSION CORDS 1 Grounded tools require a three wire extension cord Double Insulated tools can use either a two or three wire extension cord As the distance from the supply outlet increases you must use a heavier gauge extension cord Using extension cords with inadequately sized wire causes a seri ous drop in voltage resulting in loss of power and possible tool damage See Figure C The smaller the gauge number of the wire the greater the capacity of the cord For example a 14 gauge cord can carry a higher current than a 16 gauge cord See Figure C When using more than one extension cord to make up the total length make sure each cord contains at least the minimum wire size required See Figure C If you are using one extension cord for more than one tool add the nameplate amperes and use the sum to determine the required minimum cord size See Figure C If you are using an extension cord outdoors make sure it is marked with the suffix W
