Finalizing a recordable disc locks its recordings in place so the disc can be played on most standard DVD players or computers equipped with DVD ROM drives Finalizing a disc formatted in Video mode will automati cally create a menu screen for navigating the disc This menu screen is accessible by pressing DISC MENU or TITLE N Caution e Once you have finalized a DVD R R disc you cannot edit or record anything else on that disc However you can record and edit a DVD RW disc by choosing Unfinalize 1 Follow steps 1 3 as shown under Disc Initialize 2 Use A V to select the Disc Finalize option Press to move to the third level Finalize is highlighted Press ENTER The Finalize menu appears Select OK then press ENTER The DVD Recorder VCR starts finalizing the disc ote Finalization can take up to 3 4 minutes depending on the type of disc how much is recorded on the disc and the number of titles on the disc biip If you load a DVD RW that has already been finalized on a different DVD Recorder you can Unfinalize it by choosing Unfinalize from the Finalize menu After doing this you can edit and re record onto the disc You cannot unfinalize a DVD R R disc Disc Protect When recording on a DVD RW in VR mode set Disc Protect to ON to prevent accidental recording editing or erasing of the loaded disc When recording on a DVD RW set Disc Protect to ON to prevent accidental

Original or Playlist At the point you want to start a new chapter press ADD CHAP A Chapter Marker icon appears on the TV screen e You can also put chapter markers during recording Changing Title Thumbnails Thumb Each title displayed in the Title List menu is represented by a thumbnail picture taken from the start of that title or chapter If you prefer you can select a different still pic ture from within the title 1 Play the title Original or Playlist Press THUMBNAIL to make the currently dis played picture the one that appears in the Original or Playlist menu The still picture that you choose appears in both the Original and Playlist menu TA You can also change the thumbnail picture of the title on the Chapter List Original or Chapter List Playlist menu Select a chapter on the Chapter List Original or Chapter List Playlist menu then press THUMBNAIL The thumb nail picture of the title that includes the chapter is changed itie an apter Iting ontinue Making a New Playlist Use this function to add an Original title or chapter to a Playlist When you do this the whole title is put into the Playlist you can even delete parts you don t want later see Deleting Titles Chapters on page 53 The title appears in the Playlist complete with the chap ter markers that appear in the Original However if you add more chapter markers to the Original later these are not automatically copied ove

DVD R mode Restrictions on Video Recording e You cannot record copy protected video using this DVD Recorder VCR Copy protected video includes DVD Video discs and some satellite broadcasts If copy protected material is encountered during a recording recording will pause or stop automatically and an error message will be displayed on screen Video that is copy once only can only be recorded using a DVD RW disc in VR mode with CPRM see below What is CPRM CPRM is a copy protection system with scramble sys tem only allowing the recording of copy once broad cast programs CPRM stands for Content Protection for Recordable Media The DVD Recorder VCR is CPRM compatible which means that you can record copy once broadcast pro grams but you cannot then make a copy of those recordings CPRM recordings can only be made on DVD RW discs formatted in VR mode and CPRM recordings can only be played on players that are specifically compatible with CPRM Copyright Notice e Audio and video recordings you make using the DVD Recorder VCR are for your personal use only You may not sell lend or rent them to other people e This product incorporates copyright protection tech nology that is protected by method claims of certain U S patents and other intellectual property rights owned by Macrovision Corporation and other rights owners Use of this copyright protection technology must be authorized by Macrovision Corporation a
