1. 6 Replace the retaining nut See the Note above regarding the direction of rotation of the nut 7 Hold the wheel whilst you tighten the nut Do not over tighten 8 Replace the guard and eye shield assembly 9 Re adjust the tool rest and eye shield 10 Rotate the wheel by hand to check for free movement and proper adjustments 11 Plug in the gnnder put on eye protection stand to one side and run the grinder at full speed for several minutes Changing the sharpening wheel low speed wheel for Model NTS2000A The NTS2000A is a combination Bench Grinder Sharpener fitted with a wet bath on the sharpening wheel The sharpening wheel rotates at a much slower rate at 130RPM and together with the water bath assists to keep the part being sharpened cool and thus not damaging the cutting edge The water also assists in keeping the wheel clean Water should be drained at the completion of the sharpening task via the small drain hole on the bottom of the water bath Ensure the rubber plug is firmly replaced When filling the bath with water ensure the water is clean and fill the bath sufficiently to allow the wheel to be approx 12mm into the water As you add the water to the bath the sides of the wheel will become wet thus indicating the depth of the wheel in the water Do not overfill the bath 10 1 Drain all the water from the bath 10 10 Fit the outer flange against 2 Remove the two securing scr

3. grinder is used Eye shields and brackets must be fitted over each grinding wheel on all the bench grinders in the range except the sharpening wheel 11 on Model NTS2000A 1 Remove the top screw of the wheel guard 8 2 Fit the eye shield bracket 9 3 Fit a flat steel washer on to the wheel guard screw and then pass the screw through the eye shield bracket guard and then the eye shield bracket again Fit another flat washer followed by the spring washer and then the nut Tighten the nut so the bracket can slide 4 Fit the eye shield 1 to the top of the bracket Secure the eye shield by passing the 45mm x 5mm screw through both the bracket 9 and eye shield 1 Tighten the screw to the point where the eye shield will move with firm resistance 5 Slide the eye bracket inward or outwards so the edge of the bracket is less than 6mm from the surface of the wheel as shown but not touching the wheel 6 Rotate the wheel by hand one full revolution to ensure the wheel can rotate without contacting the bracket Firmly tighten the screw retaining the bracket Important Ensure that the washers as shown in the photograph are correctly positioned Fitting the tool rests The tool rests 7 are required for each high speed grinding wheel to assist in the grinding operation They are not required on the sharpening wheel on the NTS2000A Caution Never use a Bench Grinder on which the tool rest has not been
4. safely When not in use tools should be stored in a dry high place or locked up out of reach 5 Do not force the tool The tool will do the job better and safer working at the rate for which it was designed 6 Use the correct tool for the job Do not force small tools or attachments to do the job best handled by a heavier duty tool Never use a tool for a purpose other than that for which it was intended 7 Dress correctly Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry They can be caught in moving parts Rubber gloves and non slip footwear are recommended when working outdoors If you have long hair wear a protective hair covering 8 Use safety accessories Safety glasses and earmuffs should always be worn A face or dust mask is 9 also required Connect dust extraction equipment If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities ensure that these are connected and properly used 10 Do not abuse the power cord Never pull the cord to 11 12 13 14 13 16 17 disconnect the tool from the power point Keep the cord away from heat oil and sharp edges Secure the work piece Use clamps or a vice to hold the work piece It is safer than using your hand and frees both hands to operate the tool Do not overreach Keep your footing secure and balanced at all times Look after your tools Keep tools clean and sharp for better and safer performance Follow th

8. ach corner These holes accept screws or bolts up to 6mm diameter Mounting screws are not supplied with the unit Where the grinder is to be mounted on to a steel work bench it is advisable to place a piece of timber between the bench and gnnder then screw or bolt through the grinder and timber into the bench This further assists to reduce vibration Important When directly mounting the grinder ensure e The surface under the grinder is flat and clean e The 4 mount screws are applied evenly and not over tightened Note The four rubber suction caps should remain in place if mounting screws are used Using the On Off switch 1 To tum the gnnder on press the top of the rocker switch 6 marked I 2 To tum the gnnder off press the bottom of the rocker switch 6 marked 0 Operation Important Pnor to using the grinder check that the eye shields and tool rests are fitted and correctly adjusted and that you are wearing safety gear including eye hearing and breathing protection 1 Turn the wheel by hand to make sure it does not touch the guard and runs freely 2 Stand to one side turn the switch 6 on and allow the motor to reach full speed 3 Support the work piece on the tool rest 7 and gradually feed the work piece onto the wheel Use pliers to hold small work pieces Note Traverse the work piece across the full width of the wheel to prolong its flat surface 4 If the grinding oper

10. ation causes the motor speed to noticeably decrease pull back the work piece allow the motor to regain full speed and restart the grinding operation but apply less force Warnings Only use the front face of the grinding wheel not the sides Note that the work piece can get very warm It may be necessary to cool a work piece by dipping it in a coolant or in water Do not apply coolant or water to the grinding wheel Changing a grinding wheel high speed wheel Important Pnor to changing a wheel ensure the grinder is turned off and the power plug is removed from the socket Make sure that the replacement wheel is rated at 3000RPM or higher 1 Remove the retaining screw and take off the tool rest 7 2 Remove the retaining screw and take off the eye shield bracket 9 and eye shield 1 3 Take off the third retaining screw and remove the outer guard 3 4 Remove the retaining nut see note below for correct direction of rotation outer flange and the wheel Note The wheel on the left hand side of the grinder has a left hand thread and is unscrewed in a clockwise direction The wheel on the nght hand side of the grinder has a nght hand thread and is unscrewed in an anti clockwise direction 5 Fit the replacement wheel on the shaft ensuring that there is a blotter between the wheel and clamp washers on each side of the wheel and ensure the wheel is a slide fit not loose on the spindle

14. ews at the top of the bath the outer blotter of the wheel followed by the steel washer and then the retaining nut 11 Tighten the retaining nut firmly by rotating the spanner in a clockwise direction 12 Replace the water bath in the reverse direction as the removal procedure given above How to true and dress the wheels Dressing a wheel cleans and levels the front surface to increase efficiency of operation and prevent vibration 1 Dressing a wheel involves the use of a wheel dresser which is not supplied with the grinder Follow the manufacturers instructions of the wheel dresser 2 Adjust the tool rest to allow the front part of the wheel dresser to fit between the tool rest and wheel 3 Start the motor and move the dresser across the front of the wheel a sufficient number of times until the surface is level It is not necessary to apply excessive force in an attempt to dress the wheel in one pass of the wheel dresser 4 Adjust the tool rest so that it is no more than 1 1 5mm from the wheel 5 Adjust the eye shield bracket to ensure the gap between the bracket and wheels is less than 6mm 3 Loosen but do not remove the lower retaining screw 4 Push the top clips of the bath clear of housing and then lower the bath clear of the housing 5 Using an 18mm spanner remove the wheel retaining nut by turning the nut in an anti clockwise direction 6 Remove the washer and the outer flange followed by
15. fitted or where the tool rest has not been correctly adjusted The tool rests supplied are left or nght handed Important Prior to fitting the tool rests ensure the grinder is turned off and the power plug is removed from the socket 1 Remove the lower screw on the wheel guard 8 2 Hold the tool rest 7 in the correct position against the outer surface of the inner wheel guard Fit the screw through the tool rest and then both sides of the guard ensuring the square al Eir section under the screw head fits into the slot of the tool rest Fit the star washer and then the large flat washer Fit the plastic coated thumb nut to the screw and tighten the nut sufficiently to support the tool rest but still allowing the tool rest to slide inward and outwards 4 Slide the tool rest to within a max of 1 5mm from the wheel Rotate the wheel one full revolution by hand to ensure the wheel does not contact the tool rest 5 Tighten the thumb nut firmly to retain the assembly Repeat the assembly operation for the second grinding wheel Important Ensure that the washers as shown in the photograph are correctly positioned Bench mounting the grinder The GMC Bench Gnnders are supplied with 4 rubber suction caps which assist in reducing the transmission of vibration It is strongly recommended that the gnnder be firmly mounted to a bench or stand for safe operation The base of the grinder has a 7mm hole in e

20. the wheel 7 Ensure the new wheel conforms to the replacement wheel specifications in this manual 8 Ensure the clamping surfaces are clean and fitted with blotters 9 Fit the wheel on to the spindle and directly against the inner flange 11 Grinder adjustments During the life of the grinder some adjustments are required to maintain a safe working environment Please ensure the following e Always adjust the eye shields to the most comfortable and most effective angle to suit the task being performed e As the wheels wear the top eye shield bracket must be adjusted to ensure the gap between the bracket and the wheel does not exceed 6mm e As the wheels wear the tool rests must also be adjusted so there in never a gap of greater than 1 5mm between the wheel and the edge of the tool rest Maintenance Prior to any maintenance ensure the power has been turned off and the plug is removed so that the grinder is fully disconnected from the 240V supply Lubrication 1 All models use pre lubncated sealed ball bearings for the motor and do not require lubrication 2 If the wheels do not rotate freely the bearings should be replaced by an authonsed service centre 3 On the wet and dry grinder sharpener the lubncation of the worm drive should be checked after each 50 hours of operation by an authonsed service centre Cleaning 1 Keep the outside of the grinder clean by brushing grinding dust and dirt away from
