6. the machine FILL TANK EMPTY GROUNDS CONTAINER etc Their meaning is explained in the section Displayed messages page 21 For hotter coffee see the section Tips for a hotter coffee page 13 If the coffee is delivered a drop at a time too weak and not creamy enough or too cold read the tips in the Trouble shooting section on page 22 Making coffee using pre ground coffee A Important Never add pre ground coffee when the machine is off or it could spread through the inside of the machine and dirty it This could damage the appliance Never use more than one level measure as it could dirty the inside of the machine or block the funnel i Please note If you use pre ground coffee you can only make one cup of coffee at a time 1 Press the aroma selection button 06 fig 10 until Pre ground is displayed 2 Openthe beans container lid then open and raise the pre ground coffee funnel lid 3 Make sure the funnel is not blocked then add one level measure of pre ground coffee fig 18 4 Placea cup under the coffee spouts 5 Press the 1 cup button fig 15 6 Preparation begins The amount of coffee selected is dis played together with a progress bar which gradually fills as preparation progresses i Please note If Energy saving mode is active you may have to wait a few seconds before the first coffee is delivered MAKING MILK BASED DRINKS 0 Please note To avo
7. 250 ml of hot water then delivery stops automatically To interrupt delivery of hot water manually press button again Changing the quantity of water delivered automatically The machine is set by default to automatically deliver 250 ml of hot water To modify these quantities proceed as follows 1 Position a container under the spout 2 Press and hold the button until Program quan tity HOT WATER is displayed then release 3 When the hot water in the cup reaches the required level press the 0 OK button again The machine is now reprogrammed with the new quantity Steam delivery 1 Make sure the hot water spout is attached correctly fig 7 2 Fill a container with the liquid to be heated frothed and immerse the spout cappuccino maker D5 in the liquid 3 Press the steam dh button After a few seconds the steam to heat the liquid comes out of the cappuccino maker and STEAM is displayed 4 When the required temperature is obtained interrupt steam delivery by pressing the steam db button again You should not discharge steam for more than 3 minutes at a time N Important Always stop steam delivery before extracting the container containing the liquid to avoid burns from splashes Tips for using steam to froth milk When choosing the size ofthe container bear in mind that the liquid doubles or triples in volume For a richer denser froth use skimmed or partially s

Important Danger of burns Hot water containing acid flows out of the hot water spout Avoid contact with splashes of water 9 Pressthe 0 OK button to confirm that you have added the solution The descale programme automatically per forms a series of rinses and pauses to remove limescale deposits from inside the machine DESCALE Please wait is displayed The descale pro gramme starts and the descaler liquid comes out of the water spout After about 30 minutes the message RINSING INSERT FILTER if previously removed FILL TANK is displayed 10 The appliance is now ready for rinsing through with clean water Remove the water tank empty rinse under running water reinsert the water filter if previously re moved fill with clean water and replace RINSING Press OK is displayed 11 Empty the container used to collect the descaler solution and replace it empty under the hot water spout 12 Pressthe ok button to start rinsing Hot water flows out of the spout and the message RINSING Please wait is displayed 13 When the water tank is completely empty the message Rinsing complete Press OK is displayed 14 Pressthe 0 button 15 Heating up please wait is displayed when completed the appliance is ready for use SETTING WATER HARDNESS The DESCALE message is displayed after a period of time es tablished according to water hardness The machine is set by defaul

11. coffee For hotter coffee you should perform a rinse cycle by selecting the Rinsing function in the settings menu page 10 warm the cups by rinsing them with hot water using the hot water function increase the coffee temperature in the settings menu page 11 Press the 0 button to enable the cup warmer the symbol is displayed Making coffee using coffee beans A Important Do not use caramelised or candied coffee beans as they could stick to the coffee mill and make it unusable 1 Fill the container with coffee beans fig 14 2 Place under the coffee spouts 1 cup if you want 1 coffee fig 15 2 cups if you want 2 coffees fig 17 3 Lower the spout as near as possible to the cups fig 16 This makes a creamier coffee 4 Pressthe button corresponding to the number of coffees required 1 cup or2 cups CPC 5 Preparation begins The amount of coffee selected is dis played together with a progress bar which gradually fills as preparation progresses o Please note While the machine is making coffee delivery can be in terrupted at any moment by pressing one of the delivery buttons At the end of delivery to increase the quantity of coffee in the cup just press and hold within 3 seconds one of the coffee buttons Y or CPC Once the coffee has been made the appliance is ready to be used again o Please note Various alarm messages could be displayed while using
12. of the components of the appliance can be washed in a dishwasher with the exception of the milk container 0 Do not use metal objects to remove encrustations or coffee deposits as they could scratch metal or plastic surfaces Cleaning the coffee grounds container When EMPTY GROUNDS CONTAINER is displayed the grounds container must be emptied and cleaned The appliance cannot be used to make coffee until you have cleaned the grounds container Even if not full the empty grounds container message is dis played 72 hours after the first coffee has been prepared For the 72 hours to be calculated correctly the machine must never be turned off with the main switch in the 0 position N important Danger of burns If you make a number of cappuccinos one after the other the metal cup tray becomes hot Wait for it to cool down before touching it and handle it from the front only To clean with the machine on Remove the drip tray fig 28 empty and dean Empty the grounds container and clean thoroughly to remove all residues left on the bottom This can be done with the spatula on the brush provided Check the condensate tray and empty if necessary fig 29 A Important When removing the drip tray the grounds container must be emptied even if it contains few grounds If this is not done when you make the next coffees the grounds container may fill up more than expected and clog the machine Cleaning th
13. the coffee spouts and milk spout 2 Press and hold one of the function buttons until the mes sage Program quantity PROGRAM MILK is displayed 3 Release the button The appliance starts delivering milk 4 Oncetherequired quantity of milk has been delivered into the cup press the button again 5 The appliance stops delivering milk and if required for the drink being prepared after a few seconds the coffee is delivered into the cup Program quantity PROGRAM COFFEE is displayed 6 Once the required quantity of coffee has been delivered into the cup press the button again Coffee delivery stops The machine is now reprogrammed with the new milk and cof fee quantities DELIVERING HOT WATER AND STEAM A Important Danger of burns Do not leave the appliance unattended while hot water or steam is being delivered The spout becomes hot during deliv ery Hold by the handle only i Please note If Energy saving is active you may have to wait a few seconds before hot water and steam are delivered Delivering hot water 1 Make sure the hot water spout is attached correctly fig 7 2 Place a container under the spout as close as possible to avoid splashes 3 Press the amp OK button fig 3 Preparation underway is displayed if required Then hot water is delivered and HOT WATER is displayed together with a progress bar which fills gradually as preparation proceeds 4 The machine delivers about

15. the tank and exhausted filter 2 Press the MENU ESC button to enter the menu 3 Press the scrolling arrow lt or gt fig 9 until Install fil ter Installed is displayed 4 Press the 0 button 5 message Uninstall appears on the display 6 Press the button to confirm and the MENU ESC button to exit the menu Electrical connection UK only A Ifyourappliance comes fitted with a plug it will incorporate a 13 Amp fuse If it does not fit your socket the plug should be cut off from the mains lead and an appropriate plug fitted as below WARNING Very carefully dispose of the cut off plug after removing the fuse do not insert in a 13 Amp socket elsewhere in the house as this could cause a shock hazard With alternative plugs not incorporating a fuse the circuit must be protected by a 15 Amp fuse If the plug is a moulded on type the fuse cover must be re fitted when changing the fuse using a 13 Amp Asta approved fuse to BS 1362 In the event of losing the fuse cover the plug must NOT be used until a replacement fuse cover can be obtained from your nearest electrical dealer The colour of the correct replacement fuse cover is that as marked on the base of the plug B If your appliance is not fitted with a plug please follow the instructions provided below WARNING THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED IMPORTANT GREEN AND YELLOW EARTH C BLUE NEUTRAL O BROWN LIVE As the colours of
16. the wires in the mains lead may not correspond with the col oured markings identifying the terminals in your plug proceed as follows The green and yellow wire must be connected to the terminal in the plug marked with the letter E or the earth symbol or coloured green green and yel low The blue wire must be connected to the terminal marked with the letter N or coloured black The brown wire must be connected to the terminal marked with the letter L or coloured red DISPLAYED MESSAGES DISPLAYED MESSAGE POSSIBLE CAUSE SOLUTION FILL TANK Insufficient water in the tank Fill the tank with water and or insert it correctly pushing it as far as it will go until it clicks into place EMPTY GROUNDS CONTAINER The grounds container A18 is full Empty the grounds container and drip tray clean and replace fig 29 Important when removing the drip tray the grounds contai ner MUST be emptied even if it contains few grounds If this is not done when you make the next coffees the grounds container may fill up more than expected and clog the machine GROUND TOO FINE ADJUST MILL The grinding 15 too fine and the coffee is delivered too slowly or not at all Repeat coffee delivery and turn the grinding adjustment dial fig 13 one click clockwise towards 7 while the coffee mill is in operation If after making at least 2 coffees delivery is still too slow repeat the correction procedure turn

20. ative symbol flash on the display N important Descaler contains acids which may irritate the skin and eyes It is vital to follow the manufacturer s safety warn ings given on the descaler pack and the warnings relating to the procedure to follow in the event of contact with the skin and eyes Use De Longhi descaler only Under no circumstances should you use sulphamic or acetic based descalers Their use invalidates the guarantee Failure to descale the appli ance as described above also invalidates the guarantee 1 Turn the machine on 2 Press the MENU 36 ESC button to enter the menu 3 Press lt or gt until Descale is dis played 4 Select by press ing the oK button Confirm is displayed Press the ds oK but ton to confirm 5 DESCALE EMPTY DRIP TRAY is displayed alternating with Remove filter if the filter is present and ADD DES CALER PRESS OK 6 Empty the water tank A9 completely and remove the water softener filter if present Empty the drip tray fig 29 and grounds container then put them back in the ap pliance 7 Pour the descaler into the tank up to level A correspond ing to a 100 ml pack marked on the back of the tank fig 36 then add water 1 litre up to level B fig 36 and put the water tank back 8 Place an empty container with a minimum capacity of 1 5 litres under the hot water spout fig 7 A

22. e drip tray and condensate tray A Important The drip tray is fitted with a level indicator red showing the level of water it contains fig 30 Before the indicator protrudes from the cup tray the drip tray must be emptied and cleaned otherwise the water may over flow the edge and damage the appliance the surface it rests on or the surrounding area To remove the drip tray 1 Remove the drip tray and grounds container fig 28 2 Empty the drip tray and grounds container and wash them 3 Check the condensate tray and empty if necessary 4 Replace the drip tray complete with grounds container Cleaning the inside of the coffee machine A Danger of electric shock Before cleaning internal parts the machine must be turned off see Turning off and unplugged from the mains power supply Never immerse the coffee machine in water 1 Check regularly about once a week that the inside of the appliance accessible after removing the drip tray is not dirty If necessary remove coffee deposits with the brush supplied and a sponge 2 Remove the residues with a vacuum cleaner fig 31 Cleaning the water tank 1 Clean the water tank A7 regularly about once a month and whenever you replace the water softener filter if pro vided with a damp cloth and a little mild washing up liq uid 2 Remove the filter if present and rinse with running wa ter 3 Replace the filter if provided fill the tank wit

25. f froth Turn the froth adjustment dial to adjust the amount of froth on the milk delivered while making cappuccino and milk based coffees Dial position Description Recommended for CP No froth FLAT WHITE MILK hot milk Cp Min froth LATTE P Max froth CAPPUCCINO MILK frothed milk Making milk based drinks automatically The FLAT WHITE CAPPUCCINO LATTE and MILK buttons on the control panel enable these drinks to be prepared automatically Proceed as follows 1 Fill the milk container and attach it as described above 2 Turn the froth adjustment dial on the milk container lid to the position corresponding to the required froth 3 Press the button corresponding to the required drink The name of the drink selected is displayed together with a progress bar which gradually fills as preparation progress 6 4 After a few seconds frothed milk is delivered from the milk spout into the cup below For drinks with coffee the machine automatically makes the coffee after delivering the milk Please note If you want to interrupt preparation during delivery press any button At the end of delivery to increase the quantity of milk or coffee in the cup within three seconds just press and hold the button corresponding to the cappuccino or milk based coffee being made Do not leave the milk container out of the refrigerator for long periods The warmer the milk 5 C is idea
