Date November 21 2013 THE KING OF SNOW Ariens Company 655 W Ryan St Brillion WI 54110 www ariens com Product Family Ariens Sno Thro Subject Briggs amp Stratton Service Bulletin Dealer Action Investigate and Repair if Necessary Service Bulletin Briggs amp Stratton Engine Model Serial Number 120000 amp 150000 12051 788xxxxx through 13061888xxxxx No B 2110 Ariens Company had been notified by Briggs amp Stratton Corp that some Briggs amp Stratton engines in the serial number ranges above may have been manufactured with residual fuel hose assembly lubricant in the carburetor potentially resulting in repeated starting difficulties or erratic operation If encountered during pre delivery set up or due to a customer complaint Dealers are to repair or replace the carburetor As stated in the attached letter from Briggs amp Stratton see page 2 dealers are to file a warranty claim with Briggs amp Stratton for each repair following the warranty guidelines Any questions regarding this bulletin should be directed to your Briggs amp Stratton Distributor Page 1 of 2 atti BRIGGSSSTRATTION BRIGGSSSTRATTON CORPORATION DISTRIBUTION SALES AND CUSTOMER SUPPORT POST OFFICE BOX 702 MILWAUKEE WI 53201 0702 USA BRIGGS amp STRATTON SERVICE NOTIFICATION TO ARIENS COMPANY DATE NOVEMBER 2013 SUBJECT HARD STARTING ERRATIC ENGINE OPERATION MODELS 1200002. amp 150000 HORIZONTAL SHAFT SNOW ENGINES CODE OR SERIAL 12051788XXXXX THROUGH 13061888XXXXX CONDITION During recent routine quality audits of subject engines we identified that some of our fuel hose assembly lubricant had entered the carburetor on subject engines potentially affecting performance We subsequently cleaned the fuel systems of affected product with an isopropanol solution or by running the engine with aviation fuel In some of the cleaned engines we have since identified traces of oxidation and or a gel residue on the internal surfaces of the carburetor Engines with this condition may exhibit repeated starting difficulties or erratic operation generally reported on new out of box product INSPECTION REPAIR ACTION If the engine starts easily and operation is stable no further action is required If during routine pre delivery set up or a customer compliant the engine exhibits repeated hard starting or prolonged unstable operation clean repair the carburetor or replace the carburetor Order the appropriate replacement carburetor based on the following Model Series 120000 P N 593357 Model Series 150000 P N 593358 NOTE Transfer the choke shaft and choke plate components from the original carburetor to the new one per the instructions included with the carburetor WARRANTY File warranty claims per normal warranty guidelines Carburetor cleaning repair or replacement can typically be accomplished in 45 mi
