3. 22 Scanning a Document or Photo Scanning With Mac OS X 10 6 You can scan original documents and photos and save them as files on your computer 1 Open an image editing application such as Image Capture select your product if necessary then press the Scan button 2 Ifyou would like to select scan settings such as Color Restoration and file save settings click Show Details 3 Click the Scan button to begin scanning Your image is saved to the folder selected in the Scan To pop up menu Scanning a Document or Photo 23 Maintaining Your Product Follow the instructions in this chapter to check and clean the print head nozzles check ink levels and replace ink cartridges If you need to align the print head see the online Users Guide Caution To keep your product looking like new don t place anything on top of the cover or use it as a writing surface If you need to clean the cover use only a soft non abrasive microfiber type cloth Checking the Print Head Nozzles If your printouts are faint or have gaps in them some of the nozzles in the print head may be clogged or ink may be running low in one or more of the ink cartridges Follow the steps below to check the print head nozzles 1 2 3 4 5 6 Load letter or A4 size paper Press I Setup Press A or Y to select Maintenance then press OK Make sure Nozzle Check is selected then press OK Press the B amp W or Color lt gt Start button Check t

M Make sure the paper is loaded against the edge guide and not sticking out from the end of the cassette The paper may slide forward slightly as you insert the cassette This is normal M Do not use paper with binder holes Using Special Papers 5 Placing Originals for Copying Scanning or Faxing Before you copy scan or fax place your documents on the scanner glass or in the Automatic Document Feeder ADF Place photos on the scanner glass only Using the Scanner Glass You can place a photo or a document up to letter size or A4 size on the scanner glass 1 Open the document cover 2 Place your original facedown on the scanner glass with the top against the back left corner 3 Close the cover gently to keep your original in place Using the Automatic Document Feeder You can place up to 30 letter or A4 size sheets or 10 legal size sheets single sided only in the ADE 1 Open the ADF paper support and then move the edge guide outward 2 Fan the originals then tap them on a flat surface to even the edges 6 Placing Originals for Copying Scanning or Faxing 3 Insert the originals faceup top edge first The ADF icon appears on the screen Note If you re using the 2 up Copy layout make sure the originals are loaded as shown below Placing Originals for Copying Scanning or Faxing 7 Copying a Document Follow the steps in this section to copy black and white or color documents

Y al gently four or five times Then remove it from the t package 6 Remove the yellow tape from the bottom of the ink cartridge Caution Do not remove any other labels or seals or ink will leak Do not touch the green chip on the front of the cartridge This can damage the ink cartridge 7 Insert the new ink cartridge into the holder and push it down until it clicks into place Once you replace all the cartridges that need replacing close the cartridge cover and push it down until it clicks into place 9 Close the scanner to begin charging the ink This takes about 2 1 2 minutes When you see a completion message on the LCD screen ink charging is finished Caution Never turn off the product while ink is charging or you ll waste ink If you see an ink replacement message on the LCD screen press OK and press down all the cartridges securely Then press OK again If you remove a low or expended ink cartridge you cannot reinstall and use the cartridge 28 Maintaining Your Product Solving Problems If you have a problem with your Epson product check the messages on the LCD screen to diagnose the cause You can also check the basic troubleshooting suggestions below or in your online Users Guide Problems and Solutions Check the solutions below if you re having trouble using your Epson product Network Problems If you have a poor wireless connection try moving the product to a different location Avoid placin

13. product during head cleaning or you may damage it 6 Press 2 to run a nozzle check and confirm that the print head is clean Note If you don t see any improvement after cleaning the print head four times leave the product on and wait at least six hours to let any dried ink soften Then try cleaning the print head again If quality does not improve one of the ink cartridges may need to be replaced If that doesn t help contact Epson as described on page 34 If you do not use your product often it is a good idea to print a few pages at least once a month to maintain good print quality Maintaining Your Product 25 Checking Ink Levels You can check the ink levels anytime right on the LCD screen To check the ink levels with your Windows or Mac OS X software see the instructions in your online Users Guide Note Printing stops when an ink cartridge is expended If a color cartridge is expended you may be able to continue printing temporarily with black ink see the online User s Guide for more information If the black cartridge is expended you must replace it to continue printing 1 Press Setup Ink Levels 2 Press OK to select Ink Levels 3 The ink cartridge status is displayed See page 27 to replace m de a cartridge if necessary 2 Cartridge Replacement v 4 Press 3 Back to exit OK Proceed In Windows a window may appear on your computer screen if you try to print when ink is low This window can opti

M Make sure the printer driver was installed correctly and that your computers TCP IP settings are configured correctly M Make sure the product is connected to the same network as your Mac Cannot Print Over the Network E Print a Network Status Sheet see page 31 and verify that the network settings are correct and no errors are shown E If your network does not assign IP addresses using DHCP you need to set the IP address manually E gt For an Ethernet connection make sure that the product is turned on and that your router access point switch or hub link LED for the port the product is connected to is on or flashing If the link LED is off try the following M Make sure the Ethernet cable is securely connected to both the product and your router access point switch or hub E Try connecting to another port on your router access point switch or hub Try connecting the product to another router access point switch or hub E Try connecting the product to your router access point switch or hub with another Ethernet cable E Try printing from another computer on the network to see if the problem persists The Product s WiFi Light Is On but You Can t Print E Your router might not be assigning IP addresses automatically using DHCP If it isn t you will need to set the products IP address manually Make sure it is set correctly for your network Contact your router manufacturer for assistance E Make sure y
