1. 3. battery compartment Once the battery clears the outer edges of the compartment press it securely into position Make sure the side of the battery with the warning label faces the outside of the battery compartment Otherwise the battery cover will not close properly NOTE The side of the battery opposite the warning label contains a heat sensor that stops the flow of electricity if the battery overheats 6 Attach the battery cover to the end of the battery compartment opposite the AC adapter receptacle Close and latch the cover If necessary gently push the cover latch towards the AC adapter receptacle until it latches Page 26 Removing the Battery 1 Open the printer s battery cover by pressing the cover latch Swing the cover open and remove it 2 Pull out on the battery removal ribbon as shown in Figure 13 until the battery starts to tilt out of its compartment NOTE f the battery removal ribbon is caught behind the battery insert a thin metal object such as a flat blade screwdriver between the battery and the case at the end away from the AC adapter receptacle and tilt it out of its compartment 3 Remove the battery from the compartment 4 Squeeze down the connector tab on the battery connector 5 Gently pull the battery connector from the terminal inside the printer Removal Ribbon Squeeze connector Battery tab down Connector wa Tilt battery out Pull ribbon out Gently pull connecto

Palm OS Systems There are three choices for time trial printer drivers available on the PocketJet Driver CD for Palm devices supporting PocketJet 200 printers as shown below Contact Pentax Technical Support at 1 800 453 6144 ext 1820 for Palm OS System support for the PocketJet ID Each choice is provided by a different 3 party vendor and all provide similar functionality Choose one or try all three to determine which one you like the best The trial version will give you a notification that it will shut off before the end of the trial period with the option to purchase a copy Contact the application provider to purchase your copy www instepgroup com www iscomplete com or www stevenscreek com Refer to the vendor s website for the latest software updates Note Both ISComplete and Stevens Creek support Palm OS 5 x and earlier InStep Print only supports Palm OS 4 x and earlier e CD Install 1 Connect your Palm to your desktop or laptop PC 2 Insert the Driver Disk CD in your CD drive 3 Select Installation select PocketJet 200 and click continue 4 Complete the registration information and then click continue or click skip to proceed without completing the registration information 5 Select Pentax PocketJet 200 select PDA deselect any other operating system and click continue 6 Select Palm OS then click continue 7 Select Show Me

9. in the printer buffer See page 7 for proper DIP switch position to enable this feature NOTE Once the auto off timer has turned the printer off you must turn it back on by pressing the main switch once quickly The printer does not turn itself back on automatically when the computer is attempting to send data to it Page 40 Chapter 6 Troubleshooting Overview If you have difficulty getting your printer to work properly first check to make sure you have done the following tasks correctly See Chapter 1 Setting Up the Printer e Installing the battery or connecting the printer to an AC outlet e Connecting the printer to your computer Make sure you have installed and selected the proper printer driver as explained in Chapter 2 Using the Printer Look through the troubleshooting tips in this chapter for help correcting the problem If none of these suggestions works e If you are in the U S call Pentax Technical Support at 1 800 543 6144 extension 1820 from 8 AM to 5 PM Mountain Time Monday through Friday e If you are outside the U S contact your local reseller or any of the Authorized Service Centers Page 41 Indicator Light Warnings Chapter 5 Reference contains a table listing all combinations of indicator lights O Off On Blinking O either On or Off The POWER indicator light does not light The printer is receiving no power If you are using the AC ad
10. its battery always take the following precautions e Unplug the AC cable from the power outlet NOTE The transformer inside the AC adapter generates heat while it is plugged in Unplugging the adapter extends its life e Store the printer in its carrying case Page 24 Installing the Battery 1 Open the printer s battery cover by pressing the cover latch Push the cover away from the AC adapter receptacle See Figure 10 FIGURE 10 Opening the Battery Cover 2 Swing the cover open and remove it 3 Gently push the battery connector into the terminal on the inside of the printer s battery compartment next to the cover latch until it latches See Figure 11 Battery Connector FIGURE 11 Pushing the battery connector into the terminal CAUTION Do not force the battery connector into the terminal If you are having difficulty inserting the connector make sure the connector tab is facing the top of the printer case See Figure 11 Page 25 4 Grasp the battery removal ribbon which is attached to the inside of the battery compartment See Figure 12 CAUTION Ifyou forget to hold on to the ribbon you may accidentally insert the battery on top of it Then you won t be able to remove the battery by pulling the ribbon Removal Ribbon FIGURE 12 Placing the battery inside the battery compartment 5 While holding onto the ribbon tilt the battery and place it inside the
11. movement will stop automatically after about 40 seconds In either case the printer remains in Cleaning Mode until the printer is turned OFF the Cleaning Mode is disabled by resetting the DIP switch and the printer is turned back ON Page 35 Cleaning side FIGURE 18 Inserting the cleaning cloth CAUTION Do not attempt to clean the print head with any material other than the cleaning cloth The cleaning cloth is for head and roller cleaning only Do not use it to clean any other part of the printer 6 Reset the Cleaning Mode to OFF by turning the printer off resetting DIP switch 4 and turning the printer back on NOTE Don t throw the cleaning cloth away after you clean the print head It should last for the life of the printer Keep the cleaning cloth with your printer supplies and use it whenever you need to clean the print head Page 36 Cleaning the Platen Roller Dirt and debris on the platen roller can make the roller feed paper into the printer at an angle degrade the quality of the printed image or both 1 Make sure the printer is off 2 Set the Cleaning Mode to ON using DIP switch 4 as shown in Figure 17 3 Press the main switch once quickly to turn the printer ON and then press the main switch once again quickly to start the printer platen roller turning 4 Insert the black cleaning cloth that came with the printer into the printer s paper input slot with the rough black side which contain

55. r out FIGURE 13 Instructions for removing the battery Page 27 Charging the Battery Note Batteries are shipped from the factory uncharged Charging the Battery Charging the battery tops off the charge without first discharging the battery 1 Make sure the printer is connected to an AC power outlet with the AC adapter and power cord or the DC charging type adapter 2 Make sure the printer is off 3 Press the main switch and hold it down for a few seconds until the green BATTERY indicator light stays lit This puts the printer in Conditioning mode and starts discharging the battery 4 Press the main switch and hold it down for a few seconds until the green BATTERY indicator light starts to blink This bypasses the discharging process and puts the printer in Charge mode which charges the battery immediately The green BATTERY indicator light blinks until charging is complete At the first charge of a fully discharged battery the printer will be at 60 of capacity The time to charge to 60 capacity is 70 minutes This will yield approximately 60 pages per charge To have 100 capacity immediately repeat steps 1 through 4 The time to charge to 100 capacity is an additional 60 minutes for a total of 130 minutes A battery at 100 charge will yield approximately 100 pages of printing When the printer finishes refreshing the battery it automatically turns itself off and the green BATTERY indicator light goe
