Rotated Landscape means the page has a horizontal V orientation and is flipped Number of Copies You can set the number of copies to be printed up to 999 99 for PCL Paper Handling and Special Media 5 SAYNLViAds SUPERSCRIPT 4650 SERIES SETTINGS Printer Settings SuperScript 4650 Series printer settings give you many ways to customize your print job There is often more than one place to change the same printer setting These include e The SuperScript PostScript 3 printer drivers e PCL5e printer drivers for 4650N or 4650NX e The Operator Panel on your printer Using the Printer s Operator Panel You can use the printer s Operator Panel to cancel a print job or change settings that are not available in your printer driver You can view messages on the Operator Panel to help diagnose printing problems In addition the printer operator panel allows you to print out font lists and test pages and view the total page count You can also set the printer s TCP IP address or reconfigure network settings Chapter 5 The Operator Panel provides instructions for using the printer s operator panel Using Printer Drivers Your printer software includes the PostScript 3 printer drivers for Windows 95 98 Windows NT 4 0 2000 Windows 3 1x and Mac OS The 4650N X also includes the PCL 5e printer driver for Windows 95 98 Windows NT 4 0 2000 and Windows 3 1x They offer a wide range of features for setting up y

The interface of the printer driver depends on the operating system you use Not all settings are available for all drivers or they may appear on different tabs in the printer driver All printer drivers have Online Help available at the click of a button with more information about specific settings Chapter 4 Printer Drivers shows the PCL5e printer drivers and explains how to use them Resolution Print resolution is measured by the number of dots per inch dpi in an image The higher the number is the finer the resolution Resolution can be set to 600 the default 300 150 and 75 dpi Lower resolutions require less memory and processing time Dithering Select a dithering pattern for converting images from one format to another for example for printing color documents in black and white Dithering along with the intensity and resolution settings affect the overall appearance of graphics in printed documents Halftone Color Adjustment In the Windows NT driver this is an advanced feature for controlling how color appears in a document and is converted to monochrome when printed Intensity Adjust this setting to control the darkness of graphics in the printed document Reserved printer memory Specify how much memory to reserve for special printer functions such as macros Operator Panel settings etc The reserved memory is not used for printing Printer memory tracking Before printing a document the printe

Advanced features allow you to have more control over your print jobs They can be accessed from the NEC features tab of the PostScript driver or from the Advanced features button on your printer s home page For more details about these unique features see Chapter 6 of this user s guide note These advanced features are not available with the SuperScript 4650 printer Collation Use the collation feature to print multiple sorted copies of your print job J ob Hold Through job hold you can store a document on the printer s hard drive and release it through the Operator Panel later This feature is most useful when you want to ensure confidentiality in a networked environment J ob Preview and J ob Reprint With these features the printer s hard disk stores your document indefinitely Job preview lets you preview the first copy of a document before printing out more copies Job reprint holds your job for release at a later time Banner Page Banner pages are used to identify and separate print jobs They contain information about your print job and are especially useful in a network environment Color Scanning An optional color scanner can be attached to the printer s SCSI interface and provide convenient color copies Scanned images can be saved in JPEG format and accessed across the company network or Internet Zip Drive Attachment You can print certain files ps prn eps jpg directly from a SCSI attached Io

This option is useful if the printer has limited memory because it creates smaller documents Encapsulated PostScript EPS Use this to print your document as a single page image that will be incorporated into another file You must also select Output to File 8 SuperScript 4650 Series User s Guide Archive Format Use this to create a PostScript data stream that gets stored in a file to be used later PostScript Header You can control whether the driver sends a PostScript header with each document By default a header proceeds each sent PostScript job You will not see this header it is part of the PostScript code If you are printing to your own local printer and you will only be sending PostScript jobs you can choose to send the header just once The header is retained and will be used with each job thus slightly reducing print time Error Handling You can send an error handler with each print job Then if an error occurs the printer prints a page with a message describing the nature of the error You or a technician can use this information to diagnose the problem PostScript Timeout Values These settings define timeout periods allowed when the driver communicates with the printer Enter a value from 0 to 999 seconds 32 767 seconds for NT When zero is entered the printer will wait indefinitely If your printer is shared do not specify a value of zero J ob Timeout This is the maximum number of seconds the
