Changing the IPP Port Settings After the IPP port is created you can reach the screen shown in Figure 36 IPP Port using the Windows Port Settings button l Za 3 Open the Printers folder Start Settings Printers Right click the IPP Printer and select Properties Locate and click the Port Settings button Details or Port tab depending on your version of Windows There are 2 settings Retry Interval and Retry Count which can be adjusted 1f you have problems connecting to the IPP Server Retry Interval sets the time interval in seconds between connection attempts Increase this number if you have a poor connection or the remote server is very busy Retry Count sets how many connection attempts will be made Increase this number if you have a poor connection or the remote server is very busy 46 Special Features IPP Client Setup Windows 2000 XP Windows 2000 and XP have their own IPP Client and there is no need to install the supplied IPP Client Software To use the Windows IPP Client with the LevelOne Printer Server follow this procedure 1 Start the Add Printer wizard 2 Select Network Printer and click Next to see the Locate your Printer screen as shown below Add Printer Wizard BEN Locate Your Printer How do vou want to locate your printer IF you don t know the name of the printer you can search for ane in the right location that has features you want What da you want to

6. 7 Follow the prompts to complete the Wizard z J Client Setup Windows 9x ME Setup Before performing the following procedure the LevelOne Printer Server must be installed on your LAN and configured as described in Chapter 3 Both the LevelOne Printer Server and the attached printer should be powered ON 1 Insert the supplied CD ROM into your drive If the setup program does not start run SETUP exe in the root folder 2 Click Installation button then select the User Install e Print Server Installation Pr Vo ferver Setup Wizard Installation Figure 11 Installation Screen 3 Follow the prompts to complete the installation of the Peer to peer Printer Port Driver Refer to the Windows section of Chapter 8 Troubleshooting if there is a problem with the installation 4 The Print Driver Setup will then run In future you can use Start Programs PrintServer Driver Printer Port Setup to run the program again PTP Printer Port Setup 1 The program will search for Printer Servers on the network and a screen like the following will be displayed e If desired click Refresh e The name of the attached printer will be displayed if possible If No printer is displayed check that the printer is properly connected and powered on 15 Level One Printer Servers a Printer Port Setup Refresh B 42 SAFINI Indicates Fort is already installed Select Nest to change connected

LevelOne Printer Server 2 Locate and double click the LevelOne Printer Server select the desired port and click Next A message like the following will be displayed Connect to Printer correct printer driver installed IF you want to install the driver on your local computer AN The server on which the Print Server Mull Driver printer resides does nat have the click OK Cancel Figure 43 Windows 2000 Message Connect to Printer E ua X The server For Ehe Print Server Mull Driver printer does not have Ehe correct printer driver installed IF vou want to search Far the proper driver click OK Otherwise click Cancel and contact your network administrator or original equipment manufacturer Far the correct printer driver Cancel Figure 44 Windows2003 Message Click OK and select the correct Manufacturer and Model for this printer 4 Follow the prompts to complete the installation In the Printers folder right click the new printer and select Sharing e Select Shared As and enter an appropriate name for this printer Users will see this name when browsing for the printer during installation e If desired click Additional Drivers and install printer drivers for other versions of Windows such as Windows 98 This will assist users during the installation process 6 Click OK to close this Window Configuration is now complete Client PCs can now be configured as

The network cable is OK There are no routers between the LevelOne Printer Server and the UNIX host during IP address assignment There are no NetWare File Servers without TCP IP support between the LevelOne Printer Server and the UNIX host You have used the correct hardware address as shown on a sticker on the base of the device Use the ping command to see if the LevelOne Printer Server is a valid device on the network The LevelOne Printer Server s IP address is forgotten and it needs to be installed in a new environment Use the Reset button to restore the factory default settings as described below then configure as for a new device ll 2 Iurn the LevelOne Printer Server OFF Press and hold the diagnostic button While pressing the button switch the LevelOne Printer Server ON If you continue pressing the button for 10 seconds a diagnostic page will be printed showing the new default settings 61 Appendix A specifications FPS 3001TXU FPS 3001TXU External Power Adapter 9V DC 1 Parallel Port Male DB 36 FCC Statement This equipment generates uses and can radiate radio frequency energy It has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC rules These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a domestic environment Operation is subject to the following two conditions

This screen displays the current status of each port For each port the following data is listed 42 Web based Management e Connected Printer the model name of the printer connected to the port if the printer name is known If the printer is not bi directional this information is unavailable e Status the current status of the printer On line Off line Out of paper e Printing Information this will show either Idle or Printing Logical Printers Logical Printers ports can be used under Unix For each Logical Printer the following fields are available Logical Printer Port Port Pre string Post String Convert LF to CR LF Internet Printing Select the Logical Printer Port you wish to configure e g L1 Click the Get Data button to update the display with the current data for the selected logical printer Select the Printer Port which the Logical printer will use The printer control string in hex to be sent to the printer before each print job This string cannot exceed 15 characters The printer control string in hex to be sent to the printer after each print job This string cannot exceed 15 characters If checked LF line feed characters are changed to CR LF carriage return line feed See Internet Mail Printing in Chapter 7 for details of this feature 43 Chapter 7 Special Features This chapter covers the special features of the LevelOne Printer Server O

12. select this option and click Next M ame Example serversprinter Example http server printers muprinter printer Figure 20 Network Path Windows XP 4 Browse the network and locate the Server and Printer or Print Queue which your Network Administrator advised you to use 5 Click OK then Next 6 Select the correct printer Manufacturer and Model as advised by your Network Administrator and click Next 7 Follow the prompts to complete the Wizard The new printer will be listed with any other installed printers and may be selected when printing from any Windows application e Client Setup Macintosh AppleTalk The LevelOne Printer Server supports AppleTalk EtherTalk PAP ATP NBP ZIP and DDP protocols enabling Macintosh computers on the network to view and use the LevelOne Printer Server as a regular AppleTalk printer Normally no configuration 1s required Software Requirements System 9 x OS or newer AppleTalk Setup 1 Click the apple icon and choose Control Panel AppleTalk 2 Ensure that Ethernet is selected under AppleTalk Connection 3 Click Chooser The Chooser panel will open 4 Click on either the LaserWriter 8 icon recommended or the LaserWriter 7 icon LaserWriter 8 makes use of the fonts installed in the printer itself so the printing response time is quicker LaserWriter 7 uses the fonts installed in the computer which increases network traffic and

Internet connection needs to be active If using the supplied IPP Client software you can use the Query IPP Printer program installed with Add IPP Port to check the availability of the remote IPP Server An IPP Server may be unavailable for any of the following reasons e tis powered off e A printer problem has caused the IPP Server to cease responding and a restart reboot 1s required e The Server s IP Address has changed e The Internet connection for the IPP Server is down e Network congestion causes the connection attempt to time out If using the supplied IPP Client software there are 2 settings Retry Interval and Retry Count which can be adjusted if you have problems connecting to the IPP Server See the previous section Changing the IPP Port Settings for details 48 Special Features Internet Mail Printing The Internet Mail Printing System allows users to print data to your printer across the Internet Users send the Internet LevelOne Printer Server an E Mail with the print job normally sent as an attachment to the E Mail The LevelOne Printer Server will retrieve the E Mail and print it System Requirements Mail Server e Accessibility The Mail Server must be accessible by the intended clients or users Normally this means a permanent connection to the Internet e Protocols The Mail Server must support the POP3 and SMTP protocols The Internet Printing System uses these protocols and the most

LaserJet BL Add Fort Delete Port Configure Port Enable bidirectional support gor TM n Enable printer pooling caca sso When printing from some software applications such as Power Point it takes a long time and the print out is incorrect The problem is due to the printer which is being configured to Start printing after the first page is spooled To change this setting e Go to Control Panel Printers and click on your printer e Then select File Properties Details e When the Details screen appears click the Spool Settings button e When the Spool Settings dialogue box appears choose Start printing after last page is spooled and click OK The Configuration button on the Printer Status screen in BiAdmin is grayed out even though my printer is bi directional The button is unavailable if the printer is busy You must wait until the printer is idle My old printer cannot print or prints garbage If the printer you used is an old model with low speed the following steps may solve this problem Try the following e Open the BiAdmin Utility e Click the Printer Status icon e Change the Printer Type setting to Low Speed or set the Handshake Signal setting to Ack amp Busy 60 Troubleshooting Unix Troubleshooting Problem No 1 Solution No 1 Problem No 2 Solution No 2 LevelOne Printer Server device is not recognized Check the following
17. described in Chapter 4 Client Configuration 68 Appendix C Unix Systems Overview Your Wireless LevelOne Printer Server supports the LPD Unix printing method which is supported by all common Unix systems You must configure both the Wireless LevelOne Printer Server itself and your Unix system as described in the following sections LevelOne Printer Server IP Address Configuration Because it supports dynamic IP Address allocation using DHCP or BOOTP the LevelOne Printer Server ships with an IP Address of 0 0 0 0 This is NOT a valid IP Address Therefore you must do ONE of the following e Check your DHCP server if you have one and determine the IP Address allocated to the LevelOne Printer Server e Configure your BOOTP Server if you have one to provide an IP address to the LevelOne Printer Server then restart the LevelOne Printer Server e Use a Windows platform and run the Setup Wizard or BiAdmin utility to allocate a valid IP Address to the LevelOne Printer Server e Add an entry to the arp table to associate the hardware address of the LevelOne Printer Server with the desired IP address as follows arp s IP Address 00 00 0Z2 XXx XX XxXX Where IP Address is the IP Address you wish to assign to the LevelOne Printer Server 00 c0 02 xx xx xx is the hardware address of the LevelOne Printer Server Example arp 5 192 109 0 21 00 00 02 12 54 250 You should then assign this IP address to the LevelOn

89. verview The LevelOne Printer Server has 2 special features e IPP Internet Printing Protocol e Proprietary Internet Mail Printing system Internet Printing Protocol IPP IPP internet Printing Protocol is a standards based system to allow remote printing from a PC to any accessible printer Normally the printer will be attached to a computer or other device which functions as an IPP Server Client PCs need a compatible IPP Client program Windows 2000 and XP include a suitable IPP client For other versions of Windows a client program is supplied on the LevelOne Printer Server s CD ROM The Client must also know the IP Address or URL or the IPP Server IPP Server Configuration The LevelOne Printer Server contains the necessary firmware to act as an IPP Server No additional configuration is necessary However the following requirements must be met e The LevelOne Printer Server must have a valid IP Address For printing via the Internet the LevelOne Printer Server s IP Address must be external allocated by your ISP rather than an IP Address on your local LAN e Any Router Gateway or Firewall linking your LAN to the Internet must NOT block the IPP protocol e You must advise clients of the correct URL or IP Address of the IPP Server To use a URL rather than an IP Address you need to register the domain name for the URL e Unless clients are using Windows 2000 or XP you must provide your clients with the suppli
