9. n the depth locking lever 15 Note Always use the correct blade depth setting The correct blade depth setting for all cuts should not be more than 6 35mm 1 4 below the material being cut Allowing more depth will increase the chance of kickback and result in a rough cut Adjusting the bevel angle CAUTION Always ensure that the saw is switched off and unplugged from the power supply before making any adjustments 1 The saw can be adjusted to cut at any angle between 0 and 45 2 Loosen the bevel adjustment knob 6 located at the front of the base plate 3 Tilt the body of the saw until the required angle is reached using the bevel scale 7 as a guide 4 Tighten the bevel adjustment knob 6 to secure the base plate Note Always make a trial cut in a scrap piece of material along a guideline to determine how much you should offset the blade from the guideline to make an accurate cut Switching on and off 1 Connect the plug to the power supply 2 Depress the lock off button 2 and squeeze the trigger switch 1 3 The blade will take approximately 2 seconds to reach full speed Note When you release the trigger the machine turns off 7 and the lock off button re engages to prevent accidental operation CAUTION Allow the blade to come to a complete standstill before setting the saw down Making a cut 1 Mark the line of cut on the workpiece and align the blade guide as follows a Cu
10. of kickback Kickback is a sudden reaction to a pinched bound or misaligned saw blade causing an uncontrolled saw to lift up and out of the workpiece toward the operator When the blade is pinched or bound tightly by the kerf closing down the blade stalls and the motor reaction drives the unit rapidly back toward the operator If the blade becomes twisted or misaligned in the cut the teeth at the back edge of the blade can dig into the top surface of the wood causing the blade to climb out of the kerf and jump back toward the operator Kickback is the result of saw misuse and or incorrect operating procedures or conditions and can be avoided by taking proper precautions as given below CD 7 h a Maintain a firm grip with both hands on the saw and position your arms to resist kickback forces Position your body to either side of the blade but not in line with the blade Kickback could cause the saw to jump backwards but kickback forces can be controlled by the operator if proper precautions are taken b When blade is binding or when interrupting a cut for any reason release the trigger and hold the saw motionless in the material until the blade comes to a complete stop Never attempt to remove the saw from the work or pull the saw backward while the blade is in motion or kickback may occur Investigate and take corrective actions to eliminate the cause of blade binding When restarting a saw in the workpiece cen

14. the spring are not operating properly they must be serviced before use Lower guard may operate sluggishly due to damaged parts gummy deposits or a build up of debris Lower guard should be retracted manually only for special cuts such as plunge cuts and compound cuts Raise lower guard by retracting handle and as soon as blade enters the material the lower guard must be released For all other sawing the lower guard should operate automatically d Always observe that the lower guard is covering the blade before placing saw down on bench or floor An unprotected coasting blade will cause the saw to walk backwards cutting whatever is in its path Be aware of the time it takes for the blade to stop after switch is released Contents of carton The GMC CS011A Circular Saw is supplied with the following accessories as standard Blade fitted Blade key Parallel fence Unpacking Due to modern mass production techniques it is unlikely that your GMC Power Tool is faulty or that a part is missing If you find anything wrong do not operate the tool until the parts have been replaced or the fault has been rectified Failure to do so could result in serious personal injury Assembly The GMC circular saw is packed fully assembled except for the parallel fence O Know your product 1 Trigger switch 2 Lock off button 3 Motor housing 4 Main handle 5 Front handle 6 Bevel adjustment knob 7 Bevel
15. tre the saw blade in the kerf and check that saw teeth are not engaged into the material If saw blade is binding it may walk up or kickback from the workpiece as the saw is restarted d Support large panels to minimise the risk of blade pinching and kickback Large panels tend to sag under their own weight Supports must be placed under the panel on both sides near the line of cut and near the edge of the panel Do not use dull or damaged blades Unsharpened or improperly set blades produce narrow kerf causing excessive friction blade binding and kickback Blade depth and bevel adjusting locking levers must be tight and secure before making cut If blade adjustment shifts while cutting it may cause binding and kickback g Use extra caution when making a plunge cut into existing walls or other blind areas The protruding blade may cut objects that can cause kickback The protruding blade may cut objects that can cause kickback a Check lower guard for proper closing before each use Do not operate the saw if lower guard does not move freely and close instantly Never clamp or tie the lower guard into the open position If saw is accidentally dropped lower guard may be bent Raise the lower guard O CD h with the retracting handle and make sure it moves freely and does not touch the blade or any other part in all angles and depths of cut b Check the operation of the lower guard spring If the guard and
16. tting at 90 b Cutting at 45 2 Rest the front edge of the base on the workpiece Start the motor and let the blade reach full speed approximately 2 seconds 3 Slowly push the saw forward using both hands Note When making a cut always use steady even pressure Forcing the saw causes rough cuts and could shorten the life of the saw or cause kickback Allow the blade and the saw to do the work 4 After completing your cut release the switch 1 and allow the blade to come to a complete stop Do not remove the saw from the workpiece while the blade is moving Note Since blade thickness varies always make a trial cut in scrap material along the guideline to check the accuracy of the blade guide notches Making a pocket cut 1 Adjust the depth of cut as required 2 Adjust the bevel setting to 0 3 Raise the lower blade guard lever 10 to expose the saw blade firmly rest the front of the base flat against the workpiece with the rear handle raised so the blade does not touch the workpiece 4 With the blade just clearing the workpiece start the motor by depressing the lock off button 2 and squeezing the trigger switch 1 5 Always let the blade reach full speed approximately 2 seconds before you begin to cut into the workpiece 6 Slowly lower the saw into the workpiece using the front of the base resting on the workpiece as a hinge point WARNING As soon as the blade starts cutting the ma
