Ryan 9900B range is slaved to current shield size Ryan 9900BX 1 NM and 2 NM 2 and 6 NM 6 and 12 NM and 12 and 24 NM See the Ryan TCAD Pilot s Handbook for a description of the traffic symbols Ryan TCAD Description The Ryan TCAD Traffic and Collision Alert Device is an on board air traffic display used to identity potential collision threats TCAD computes relative altitude and range of threats from nearby Mode C and Mode S equipped aircraft TCAD will not detect aircraft without operating transponders or those that are beyond radar coverage TCAD within defined limits creates a shield of airspace around the aircraft that detected traffic cannot penetrate without trigger ing an alert Operator Controls and Basic Displays It there is no communication between the 400W 500W Series unit display and the TCAD unit a message will appear notifying the user After initial ization proceed with operation of the 400W 500W Series unit in a normal manner TCAD data can be shown in a thumbnail view on the Map Page NOTE Refer to the Ryan TCAD Pilot s Guide for a detailed description of the Ryan TCAD System Setup Hap Measure Dist a Data Fields OFF Clear Storm Data i Change Fields we ao Restore Defaults The Map Page can display TCAD traffic in any of the top three fields or top four fields on a 500W Series unit located on the right hand side of the display TCAD data also
2. 99008 3 Turn the large right knob to move right turn clockwise or left turn counterclockwise To cancel map panning and return to your pres ent position press the small right knob Monitoring Traffic Refer to the information in the TCAD Pilot s Guide 4 regarding monitoring traffic on the display and the corresponding actions to take When the target pointer is placed on traffic the traffic range altitude separation squawk code if avail able and tail number if available are displayed The traffic is identified as follows TA Traffic Advisory This is traffic with 500 feet or less of altitude separation that is converging or maintaining altitude separation Highlighting Traffic Data Using Map Panning Panning is another map page function which allows you to move the map beyond its current limits without adjusting the map scale When you select the panning function by pressing the small right knob a target pointer flashes on the map display A window also appears at the top of the map display showing the latitude longitude position of the pointer plus the bearing and distance to the pointer from your present position PA Proximity Advisory This is traffic with 500 feet of altitude separation that is not a TA TRFC Other traffic TCAD Setup Page The Ryan TCAD Setup Page is accessed from the Tratfic Page The TCAD Setup Page allows you to configure traffic data The definitions of the availab

C 9 Section 3 Skywatch Interface SKYWATCH Description Please refer to the SKYWATCH Pilots Guide for a complete description of the SKYWATCH system SECTION 3 SKYWATCH INTERFACE Introduction With the exception of traffic display range selec tions all information in this section pertaining to the display and control of the L 3 SKYWATCH SKY 497 also applies to the L 3 SKYWATCH HP SKY 899 and the Bendix King KTA 870 KMH 880 this includes TCAS like symbology Traffic display range selections are as follows e SKYWATCH SKY 497 2 NM 2 and 6 NM and 6 and 12 NM Traffic Page showing Bendix King KTA 870 KMH traffic near the 40 nautical mile range at 10 o clock above Power up Self Test e Bendix King KTA 870 KMH 880 2 NM 2 and Check for the following test criteria on the Traffic 6 NM 6 and 12 NM 12 and 24 NM and 20 and Page during power up 0 NM 1 Ifthe SKYWATCH passes the power up test and a your aircraft has both a squat switch and is on the ground the Standby Screen is displayed see sidebar 2 If the SKYWATCH passes the power up test and your aircraft has both a squat switch and is airborne the Traffic Page is displayed on the e SKYWATCH HP SKY 899 2 NM 2 and 6 NM 6 and 12 NM and 12 and 24 NM Standby The Standby Screen appears when the SKYWATCH passes the power up test NOTE 6 NM display range and in the normal altitude display mode when the system is in standby

5. and rate are displayed in the top right corner of the Map Page and the bottom right corner of the Lightning Page The mode is described by the word STRIKE when in strike mode or CELL when in cell mode A NOTE Cell mode uses a clustering program to iden tify clusters of electrical activity that indicate cells Cell mode is most useful during periods of heavy storm activity Displaying cell data during these peri ods frees the user from sifting through a screen full of discharge points and helps to better determine where the storm cells are located Cell Mode Storm Activity Strike Rate Storm Data Displayed on the Map Page 190 00356 31 Rev C o Section 2 L 3 Stormscope Interface The strike data display phases are hs Lightning Symbol latest strikes less than one minute a black guard band is placed around the strike symbol during the first six seconds of display Large Plus sign more than one minute old Small Plus sign more than two minutes old Strike Data is no longer displayed after three minutes To configure storm data on the Map Page 1 From the default Nav Page turn the small right knob to select the Map Page Press MENU to display the Page Menu Turn the small right knob to select Setup Map and press ENT The flashing cursor highlights the GROUP field Turn the small right knob to display the Map Setup Options Menu Turn the small r
6. could affect the accuracy and performance of all GPS equip ment Although the Garmin 400W 500W Series units are precision electronic NAVigation AlDs NAVAIDs any NAVAID can be misused or misinterpreted and therefore become unsafe CAUTION Use the 400W 500W Series units at your own risk To reduce the risk of unsafe operation carefully review and understand all aspects of the Owner s Manual and the Flight Manual Supplement and thoroughly practice basic operation prior to actual use When in actual use carefully compare indications from the unit with all available navigation sources including the information from other NAVAIDs visual sightings charts etc For safety always resolve any discrepancies before continuing navigation CAUTION Use the Garmin 400W 500W Series units and the Traffic Weather Interface at your own risk To reduce the risk of unsafe operation thoroughly practice basic operation prior to actual use When in actual use carefully compare indications from the Garmin 400W 500W Series Unit with all available navigation sources including the information from other NAVAIDs visual sightings charts etc For safety always resolve any discrepancies before continuing navigation The altitude calculated by the Garmin 400W 500W Series Unit is the geometric height above mean sea level and could vary significantly from the altitude displayed by pressure altimeters in the aircraft CAUTION The Jeppesen database incorporated in the Gar

9. on the Traffic Page Traffic Altitude Display Mode Operating Mode The name of the selected altitude display mode ABV look up NRM normal BLW look down or UNR unrestricted is displayed in the upper left hand corner of the Traffic Display Range Screen The SKY 497 continues to track up Traffic Advisory to 30 intruder aircraft within its maximum with no bearing information surveillance range regardless of the altitude display mode selected Traffic Page Traffic Warning Window From the Traffic Page turn the cursor on When the unit is not on the traffic page and a traf highlight the current mode and turn the small fic threat is imminent the Traffic Warning Window is right knob to cycle through the options displayed The Warning Window shows a small map and can display the Traffic Page if the user presses ENT or return to the previous page if the user presses CLR With each turn of the knob the screen changes to display the traffic detected within the selected altitude display range The 400W 500W Series screen also displays unrestricted traffic UNR having a range of maximum specified by the SKYWATCH Pilot s Guide Please refer to the SKYWATCH Pilot s Guide for information regarding altitude display ranges Note that confirmation is not required The T mode is changed immediately when using the Traffic Warning Window small right knob Turn the cursor off when selection is made A NOTE The Traffic W

CRSR to highlight the operating mode field Turn the small right knob to select the desired operating mode and press ENT NOTE The traffic display range is automatically set to the shield size and cannot be changed 9900B only The second selectable field located in the upper right hand corner of the display is the Barometric Pressure field which displays the Barometric Pressure in inches of mercury The Barometric Pressure field on the Traffic Page allows you to set the barometric pressure in the Ryan TCAD unit Please refer to the TCAD Pilots Handbook for a detailed description of this feature The Barometric Pressure field is located in the upper right hand corner of the Traffic Page 19 Section 4 Ryan TCAD Interface To change the Barometric Pressure 1 From the Traffic Page press the cursor to highlight the Operating Mode field Turn the large right knob to select the Barometric Pressure Field Use the small right knob to select the desired value and press ENT Note When editing the value use the large right knob to select the digit to edit 2 Exit the field by pressing the CRSR button When the TCAD 9900BX model is interfaced there is an additional annunciation in the lower left hand corner of the Traffic Page This indicates when the TCAD unit is in approach mode APR or if the approach is armed APR ARM Air Shield Please refer to the TCAD Pilots Handbook for a detailed description of the Ai

U to display A the Page Menu 3 Turn the small right knob to select Self Test and press ENT 190 00356 31 Rev C The unit must be in operating mode for traffic to be displayed The ability to switch out of standby into operating mode on the ground is especially useful for scanning the airspace around the airport before takeoff To switch into Operating Mode from Standby Mode Press the cursor knob and highlight STBY Turn the small right knob to select OPER Press ENT to confirm and place the SKYWATCH in operating mode NOTE The SKYWATCH switches out of standby into the 6 NM display range If your aircraft has a squat switch and you do not manually switch out of standby the SKYWATCH will automatically switch out of standby 8 to 10 seconds after takeoff To switch into Standby Mode from the Traf fic Page Turn the cursor on and highlight OPER Turn the small right knob to select STBY Press ENT to confirm and place the SKYWATCH in standby mode NOTE If your aircraft has a squat switch STBY is not displayed while you are airborne but will go into standby 24 seconds after landing This delay allows the SKYWATCH to remain in the operating mode during a touch and go maneuver 11 Section 3 Skywatch Interface Altitude Display Mode Traffic Page To change the Altitude Display Mode 1 Traffic can be displayed both on the Map Page only if heading is available and

24. operating properly An error message is displayed on the Message Page if data is no longer being received NOTE Refer to the WX 500 Pilot s Guide for a detailed User Initiated Test In addition to the power up test the WX 500 per forms a continuous self test This continuous self test is performed several times per minute A user initiated test can also be performed The WX 500 Pilots Guide lists all of the possible faults probable causes and recommended actions if s Clear Storm Data ae Strike Mode View 120 Self Test In addition to the power up test the user can perform a self test that is executed through the 400W 500W Series unit display To perform a user initiated test 1 From the default Nav Page turn the small right knob to select the Lightning LTNG Page 2 Press MENU to display the Page Menu 3 Turn the small right knob to select Self Test and press ENT 4 190 00356 31 Rev C Section 2 L 3 Stormscope Interface Displaying Storm Data on the Map Page The Map Page displays cell or strike information using yellow lightning strike symbology overlaid on a moving map This added capability improves situational awareness which in turn makes it much easier for the pilot to relate storm activity to airports NAVAIDs obstacles and other ground references A NOTE Storm data is displayed on the Map Page only if aircraft heading is available In normal operation the current mode
