5. turning the knob another click Tips for a hotter coffee For a hotter coffee you are recommended to before delivering the coffee perform a rinsing cycle by pressing the W button to select the Rinsing function Hot water is delivered from the spout heating the internal circuits of the appliance and thus raising the coffee temperature If Cup warmer mode has been enabled place the cups on the cup warmer until they are warm warm the cups by rinsing them with hot water us ing the hot water function set the high coffee temperature in the menu Making espresso coffee using coffee beans A Important Do not use caramelised or candied coffee beans as they could stick to the coffee mill and make it unusable 1 Fill the container with coffee beans fig 12 2 Place under the coffee spouts 1 cup if you want to make 1 coffee fig 10 2 cups ifyou want 2 coffees fig 13 3 Lower the spouts as near as possible to the cup This makes a creamier coffee fig 14 4 Press the button corresponding to the number of coffees required 1 or 2 cups CY CY fig 2 and 15 5 Preparation begins The quantity and taste of coffee selected is displayed together with a progress bar which gradually fills as preparation progresses Once the coffee has been made the appliance pre pares for use again Ci Please note While the machine is making coffee delivery ca
6. be connected to the terminal in the plug which is marked with the letter E or by the earth symbol o coloured green or green and yellow The wire which is coloured blue must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter N or coloured black wire which is coloured brown must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter L or coloured red When wiring the plug ensure that all strands of wire are securely retained in each terminal Do not forget to tighten the mains lead clamp on the plug If your electricity supply point has only two pin socket outlets or if you are in doubt consult a qualified electrician Should the mains lead ever require replacement it is essential that this operation be carried out by a qualified electrician and should only be replaced with a flexible cord of the same size After replacement of a fuse in the plug the fuse cover must be refitted If the fuse cover is lost the plug must not be used until a replacement cover is obtained The colour of the correct replacement fuse cover is that of the coloured insert in the base of the fuse recess or elsewhere on the plug Always state this colour when ordering a replacement fuse cover Only 13amp replacement fuses which are asta approved to B S 1362 should be fitted This appliance conforms to the Norms EN 55014 regarding the suppression of radio interference Warning this appliance must be earthed A4 AS

9. service door ADD PRE GROUND COFFEE The pre ground coffee function has been selected without placing any pre ground coffee in the funnel Place pre ground coffee in the funnel The funnel A8 is blocked Empty the funnel with the help of a knife as described in the section Cleaning the pre ground coffee funnel ADD PRE GROUND COFFEE Press OK ALONG coffee of more than 125 ml has been made with pre ground coffee Add pre ground coffee and press OK Energy Saving The function is active and reduces electricity consumption Disable the function from the menu See section Energy Saving GENERAL ALARM The inside of the appliance is very dirty Clean the inside of the appliance thoroughly as described in the section Cleaning and maintenance If the message is still displayed after cleaning contact a service centre TROUBLESHOOTING Below is a list of some of the possible malfunctions If the problem cannot be resolved as described contact Customer Services PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE REMEDY The coffee is not hot The cups were not preheated Enable the cup warmer leave the cups at least 20 minutes to warm up Warm the cups by rinsing them with hot water using the hot water function The infuser has cooled down because 2 3 minutes have elapsed since the last coffee was made Before making the coffee heat the infuser by pressing the
10. temperature of the water used to make the coffee proceed as follows 1 Press the MENU button to enter the settings menu 2 Press the lt or gt button until Set temperature is displayed 3 the OK button 4 Press the lt or gt button until the required temperature is displayed O low LLA high 5 Press the OK button to confirm 6 the ESC button exit the menu Setting water hardness For instructions on setting water hardness see page 16 Statistics function This displays statistics relating to the machine To display proceed as follows 1 Press the MENU button to enter the settings menu 2 Press the lt or gt button until Statistics is displayed 3 Press the OK button 4 Press the lt or gt button you can check how many coffees have been made how many times the machine has been descaled the total number of litres of water delivered 5 the ESC button twice to exit the menu Default values reset This resets all menu settings and programmed quantities back to the default values with the ex ception of the language which remains as set 1 Press the MENU button to enter the menu 2 Press the lt or gt button until Default values is displayed 3 Press the OK button The message Confirm is now displayed 5 the OK button to confirm and exit MAKING COFFEE Ci Please note A few seconds may elapse between En

Do not install the appliance in a room where the temperature could drop below freezing point Arrange the power cable in such a way that it cannot be damaged by sharp edges or contact with hot surfaces e g electric hot plates Connecting the appliance A Important Check that the mains power supply voltage corresponds to the value indicated on the rating plate on the bottom of the appliance Connect the appliance to an efficiently earthed and correctly installed socket with a minimum current rating of 10A only If the power socket does not match the plug on the appliance have the socket replaced with a suitable type by a qualified professional Using the appliance for the first time g Please note Coffee has been used to factory test the appliance and it is therefore completely normal for there to be traces of coffee in the grinder The machine is however guaranteed to be new You should customise water hardness as soon as possible following the instructions in the section Setting water hardness on page 16 1 Plug the appliance into the mains socket and place the main switch on the back of the appliance in the position fig 1 You must first choose the language the languages scroll through at intervals of about 3 seconds 2 When English appears press the OK button fig 2 for a few seconds until ENGLISH set is displayed Follow the instructions indicated by the appliance 3 FILL T

15. ce continues to display the message and coffee cannot be made Even if not full the empty grounds container message is displayed 72 hours after the last coffee has been prepared For the 72 hours to be calculated correctly the machine must never be turned off with the main switch in the 0 position To clean with the machine on Open the service door on the front of the appliance fig 23 extract the drip tray fig 24 empty and clean Empty the grounds container and clean thoroughly to re move all residues left on the bottom A Important When removing the drip tray the grounds container must be emptied even if it contains few grounds If this is not done when you make the next coffees the grounds container may fill up more than expected and clog the machine Cleaning the drip tray A Important Ifthe drip tray is not emptied regularly the water could overflow from the edge and seep inside or around the machine This could damage the machine the surface it rests on or the surrounding area The drip tray is fitted with a level indicator red showing the level of water it contains fig 24 Before the indicator protrudes from the cup tray the drip tray must be emptied and cleaned To remove the drip tray 1 Open the service door fig 23 2 Remove the drip tray and the grounds container fig 25 3 Empty the drip tray and grounds container A18 and wash them 4 Replace the drip tray complete with grou
16. d previously The cappuccino is ready Sweeten to taste and if desired sprinkle the froth with a little cocoa powder Making hot milk To make hot milk without froth proceed as described in the above section making sure the ring on the cappuccino maker is positioned upwards in the HOT MILK position Cleaning the cappuccino maker after use Clean the cappuccino maker each time you use it to avoid the build up of milk residues or blockages A Important Danger of burns When cleaning the cappuccino maker a little hot water is delivered Avoid contact with splashes of water 1 Deliver a little water for a few seconds by rotating the steam knob to the I position Then turn the steam knob to the 0 position to stop the flow of hot water 2 Wait for a few minutes for the cappuccino maker to cool down hold the handle of the cappuccino tube in one hand and with the other rotate the cappuccino maker anticlockwise fig 20 then remove by pulling downwards 3 Remove the ring upwards fig 21 4 Wash all parts of the cappuccino maker thoroughly with warm water 5 Make sure the two holes shown by the arrow in fig 22 are not blocked If necessary clean with a pin 6 Replace the inner section by inserting it carefully onto the adjustable tube then insert the steam nozzle and turn anticlockwise to lock it in place HEATING WATER g Please note A few seconds may elapse between Energy saving mode and delivery of h
17. er with about 100 grams of milk for each cappuccino to be made In choosing the size of the container bear in mind that the milk doubles or triples in volume Ci Please note For a richer denser froth use skimmed or partially skimmed milk at refrigerator temperature about 5 C To avoid milk with poor froth or large bubbles always clean the cappuccino maker as described in the section Cleaning the cappuccino maker after use 3 Make sure the ring on the cappuccino maker is in the CAPPUCCINO position fig 18 4 Press the button Heating up Please wait is displayed followed after a few seconds by TURN STEAM KNOB 5 Turn the cappuccino maker outwards and immerse it in the milk container fig 19 Take care not to immerse the black ring 6 Turn the steam knob to the position fig 4 Steam is delivered from the cappuccino maker giving the milk a creamy frothy appearance and making it more voluminous 7 For a creamier froth rotate the container with slow movements in an upward direction You should not discharge steam for more than 3 minutes at a time 8 When you have obtained the required froth stop steam delivery by turning the steam knob back to the 0 position A Important Danger of burns Always turn the steam knob to the 0 position before removing the container with the frothed milk to avoid burns caused by splashes of boiling milk 9 Addthe milk froth to the cup of coffee prepare

19. g through with clean water Remove the water tank empty rinse under running water fill with clean water and replace TURN STEAM KNOB is displayed When the steam knob is turned to the position Rinsing Press OK is displayed 12 Empty the container used to collect the descaler solution and replace it under the hot water spout 13 Press the OK button to start rinsing Hot water flows out of the spout and the message Rinsing Please wait is displayed 14 When the water tank is completely empty TURN STEAM KNOB is displayed 15 When the steam knob is turned to the 0 position the appliance goes off To use it again turn the appliance on by pressing the d button SETTING WATER HARDNESS The DESCALE message is displayed after a period of time established according to water hardness The machine is set by default for a hardness value of 4 very hard water The machine can also be programmed according to the actual hardness of the mains water in the various regions varying the frequency with which the message is displayed Measuring water hardness 1 Remove the TOTAL HARDNESS TEST indicator paper from its pack 2 Immerse the paper completely in a glass of water for one second 3 Remove the paper from the water and shake lightly After about a minute 1 2 3 or 4 red squares form depending on the hardness of the water Each square corresponds to one level Level 1 soft water
