1. Carefully pull the jammed document toward the front of the machine Paper is jammed inside the machine D Pull the paper tray completely out of the machine D Pull the jammed paper out of the paper tray opening Close the control panel cover Press Stop Exit 11 7 o Open the front cover Pull out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly The jammed paper may be pulled out with the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly or this may release the paper so you can pull it out of the paper tray opening caution To prevent damage to the machine caused by static electricity do not touch the electrodes shown in the following diagram Troubleshooting and routine maintenance Put the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly back into the machine Close the front cover Put the paper tray in the machine 11 8 Chapter 11 Paper is jammed at the back of the 4 Pull the tab toward you to open the rear machine chute cover D Open the front cover Pull the jammed paper out of the fuser unit If the jammed paper cannot be D Pull out the drum unit and toner pulled out easily push down on the blue cartridge assembly tab with one hand as you gently pull out the paper with the other hand Open the back cover Close the back cover D Put the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly back into the machine Close the front cover 11 9 Troublesho

Manual e e o o oo ooo ooo ooo ooo ooo o oo o o o o o oo o o loH Setup Receive Setting the Ring Delay The Ring Delay sets the number of times the machine rings before it answers in Fax Only or Fax Tel mode If you have extension phones on the same line as the machine or subscribe to the telephone company s Distinctive Ring service keep the Ring Delay setting of 4 See Operation from extension telephones on page A 4 and Easy Receive on page 4 3 D If it is not illuminated in green press Press A or W to select how many times the line rings before the machine answers 00 04 Press Menu Set If you select 00 the line won t ring at all C Press Stop Exit Chapter 4 Setting the F T Ring Time Fax Tel mode only If you set the Receive Mode to Fax Tel you ll need to decide how long the machine will signal you with its special pseudo double ring when you have a voice call If it s a fax call the machine receives the fax This pseudo double ring happens after the initial ringing from the phone company Only the machine rings and no other phones on the same line will ring with the special pseudo double ring However you can still answer the call on any telephone on the same line as the machine See For Fax Tel mode only on page A 4 D If it is not illuminated in green press D Press Menu Set 2 1 2 Press A or W to select how long the

OR Press Menu Set 2 4 2 2 Journal Period Customizing the Transmission Verification Report You can use the Transmission Report as proof that you sent a fax This report lists the time and date of transmission and whether the transmission was successful OK If you select On or On Image the report will print for every fax you send If you send a lot of faxes to the same place you may need more than the job numbers to know which faxes you must send again Selecting On Image or Of Image will print a section of the fax s first page on the report to help you remember FA Note When the Verification Report is turned of or Off Image the Report will only print if there is a transmission error with NG in the RESULT column D Press Menu Set 2 4 1 D Press A or W to select On On Image Off or Of Image Press Menu Set o Press Stop Exit Chapter 7 Setting the Journal Period You can set the machine to print a journal at specific intervals every 50 faxes 6 12 or 24 hours 2 or 7 days If you set the interval to Off you can print the report by following the steps on Printing reports The default setting is Every 50 Faxes Press Menu Set 2 4 2 D Press A or W to choose an interval Press Menu Set If you choose 7 days the LCD will ask you to choose a day on which to begin the 7 day countdown Enter the time to begin printing in 24 hour format Press Menu Set
5. vii WARNING After you use the machine some internal parts are extremely HOT To prevent injures be careful not to put your fingers in the area shown in the illustration The fuser unit is marked with a caution label Please do not remove or damage the label m Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines Never touch telephone wires or terminals that are not insulated unless the telephone line has been disconnected at the walljack Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm Never install a telephone wall jack in a wet location This product must be installed near an AC power outlet that is easily accessible In case of an emergency you must disconnect the power cord from the AC power outlet to shut off the power completely To reduce the risk of shock or fire use only a No 26 AWG or larger telecommunication line cord Do not use a vacuum cleaner to clean up scattered toner Doing this might cause the toner dust to ignite inside the vacuum cleaner potentially starting a fire Please carefully clean the toner dust with a dry lint free cloth and dispose of it according to local regulations caution Lightning and power surges can damage this product We recommend that you use a quality surge protection device on the AC power line and on the telephone line or

Set the TAD to answer calls QO Set the Receive Mode to External TAD See Choosing the Receive Mode on page 4 1 Recording outgoing message OGM on an external TAD Timing is important in recording this message D Record 5 seconds of silence at the beginning of your message This allows your machine time to listen for the fax CNG tones of automatic transmissions before they stop 27 Limit your speaking to 20 seconds End your 20 second message by giving your Fax Receive Code for people sending manual faxes For example After the beep leave a message or send a fax by pressing 51 and Start Note We recommend beginning your OGM with an initial 5 second silence because the machine cannot hear fax tones over a resonant or loud voice You may try omitting this pause but if your machine has trouble receiving then you must re record the OGM to include it J Appendix A Special line considerations Roll over phone lines A roll over phone system is a group of two or more separate telephone lines that pass incoming calls to each other if they are busy The calls are usually passed down or rolled over to the next available phone line in a preset order Your machine can work in a roll over system as long as it is the last number in the sequence so the call cannot roll away Do not put the machine on any of the other numbers when the other lines are busy and a second fax call is received the f
