1. Vehicle Seating Pos WARNING Forward facing vehicle seats M UST be used with this child restraint Side facing or rear facing seats in vans station wagons or trucks CANNOT be used Britax and the U S Department of Transportation warn that chil dren 12 and under must ride in the rear seats away from front air bags The only exception is if the air bag is off NOTE Prior to installation check that the shoulder straps are in the correct position see page 33 34 tallation Rear Facing 1 Verify that your vehicle is equipped with LATCH anchors Fig A If LATCH anchors are not installed you must use standard seat belt installation methods 2 Verify that LATCH harness is routed in rear facing slots If not refer to page 17 to switch LATCH harness 3 Place the child restraint facing and fully reclined on the vehicle seat IM PORTANT Only use super recline mode if necessary to obtain proper angle based on vehicle seat contour see page 29 4 Unhook hook and loop attachments on the front edge of the cover then pull the stabilizing bar out completely Pull stabilizing bar upward until it clicks into position fig B IM PO RTANT Stabilizer bar must always be extended when seat is rear facing 5 Reattach hook and loop attachments on the front edge of the cover 6 Loosly attach each LATCH connector to the adjacent LATCH anchor fig C positive click confirms attachment to

NEVER ATTACH A FORWARD FACING TETHER TO A LOCATION THAT IS NOT RECOMMENDED BY YOUR VEHICLE MANUFAC TURER OR TO A LOCATION THAT YOU BELIEVE IS INCORRECT OR NOT STRONG ENOUGH IF THE TETHER ANCHOR COMES LOOSE IN A CRASH THE METAL HOOK CAN INJURE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS Britax recommends that the tether be used at all times Using the tether will improve the stability of your child restraint and reduce the risk of injury If your vehicle does not currently have a tether anchor attachment refer to your vehicle owner s manual or contact your vehicle manufacturer for assistance If a tether anchorage is not available you should NOT modify your vehicle without advice from your vehicle manufacturer Forward Facing Versa Tether 1 Once your child restraint is in a secure seat belted position facing forward locate the tether and remove from pouch 2 Push the adjuster button then pull to fully extend tether 3 Locate the tether anchor in your vehicle Use a tether anchor in location a or b in the illustration on page 26 IMPO If in doubt about your tether anchorage point or if your vehide is not equipped with a tether anchorage point check your vehicle owner s manual or contact your vehicle manufacturer for assistance Versa Tether 1 4 Hook the tether to the tether anchor point then pull on the tether belt to remove any slack 5 Verify that there is tension in the tether strap and that child restraint
3. even for a short time DO NOT except as described in this booklet attempt to disas semble any part of the child restraint or change the way its harness or your vehicle seat belts are used DO NOT leave loose objects e g books bags etc in the back of your vehicle In the event of a sudden stop loose objects will keep moving potentially causing serious injuries DO NOT leave folding vehicle seats unlatched In the event of a sudden stop a loose seat back could prevent the child restraint from protecting your child as well as it should DO NOT allow children to play with the child restraint DO NOT use anything to raise the restraint off the vehicle seat In an accident it could slide and be unable to protect your child as well as it should FAILURE TO FOLLOW EACH OF THEFOLLOWING INSTRUCTIO NS CAN RESULT IN YOUR CHILD STRIKING THE VEHICLE S INTERIO R DURING A SUDDEN STOP OR CRASH SECURE THIS CHILD RESTRAINT WITH A VEHICLE BELT AS SPECIFIED IN THIS USER GUIDE According to accident statistics the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recommends that parents select the rear seat as the safest location for a properly installed child restraint However the actual dimensions of the vehicle seat and the details of the safety belts used to anchor the child restraint differ from vehicle to vehicle Please study the section on Vehicle Seat Belts in this booklet for the safety assurance of your child If in

B 3 Unfasten the buckle by pressing the release button fig C 4 Move the harness straps to the side of the seat Use the hook and loop fastener located on the straps and side of the cover to aid in hold ing the straps 5 Place child in the child restraint 6 Position the harness straps around the child and fasten the child restraint buckle fig C Proper connection is confirmed with a positive click after inserting the second buckle tongue Securing Your Child 7 Gently pull up on the harness straps to tighten the lap section of the harness which should fit low on your child s body fig D 8 Slowly pull the adjuster strap to tighten the hamess around the child fig E IM PORTANT Harness should have a comfortable but SNUG fit around the child A snug fit allows you to place two fingers between your child s body and the harness 9 Fasten the chest dip by connect ing the two halves together IM PORTANT The correct height for the chest dip is at the middle of the chest level with the child s armpit 10 Verify that harness is not twisted and child is properly secured fig F 11 See Checking Harness Height on page 33 ecking Harness Height The shoulder harness MUST be threaded through the slots in the cover and shell nearest the top of your child s shoulders If in any doubt always use the slot above the shoulders rather than below To Check Harness Height 1 Place child in

6. child restraint and secure harness see pages 31 32 2 Observe where the shoulder harness is positioned on your child 3 Use diagrams below to determine if an adjustment is necessary v x x 4 If harness height is okay continue using child restraint without adjustment If harness height requires adjustment refer to Adjusting Harness Height on page 34 NO TE Once the top slots become necessary your child may continue to use the seat until the center of the ears become level with the top of the seat shell or weight exceeds 40 pounds 18 kg Adjusting Hamess Hamess Height Adjustment 1 Loosen the harness by lifting the adjuster lever located in the front of the seat while pulling the shoul der straps forward as far as possible fig A 2 From the rear of the child restraint pull the yoke over the top of the harness guard unhook the shoulder hamess from the yoke fig B 3 Pull straps through the shell and Cover to the front of the seat 4 Thread the harness straps through the appropriate harness height slots fig C 5 Reattach harness straps to the yoke fig B 6 Pull harness adjuster strap to tighten the harness 7 Verify that all straps are threaded at the same height and are not twisted Cover Removal 1 Loosen the harness by lifting the adjuster lever while pulling the shoulder straps forward as far as possible 2 Unh
7. necessary to use one lock off Always use the lock off that is closest to the seat belt buckle Never bend the plastic lock off arm up or down to pre vent breakage Do not route LATCH Harness through the rear facing lock offs when installing with vehicle seat belt 11 If desired attach Versa Tether as instructed on pages 27 28 Rear facing installation is improved by the use of the Versa Tether but it is not required 12 Verify that the seat belt is tight and the child restraint is secure Removal To remove the child restraint unfasten the seat belt and reverse the above directions Rear Facing Lap Belt Installation 1 Recline child restraint as necessary to align leveling line horizontal with the ground IMPORTANT Only use super recline mode if necessary to obtain proper angle based on vehicle seat contour see page 29 2 Unhook hook and loop attachments on the front edge of the cover then pull the stabilizing bar out completely Pull stabiliz ing bar upward until it clicks into position fig A IM PO RTANT Stabilizer bar must always be extended when seat is rear facing NOTE Do not reattach cover with hook and loop until seat belt has been rout ed 3 Place the child restraint rear facing on the vehicle seat 4 Fully extend the vehicle seat belt then pass it through the closest rear facing belt C Sot 5 Route belt in front of the buckle strap then through the second rear f
8. the LATCH anchor f necessary press silver adjuster release button then pull to lengthen LATCH webbing Installation Rear Fac 7 With one hand push the child restraint firmly into the vehicle seat while pulling the first LATCH con nector strap tight fig D 8 Continue pressing child restraint firmly into the vehicle seat while pulling the second LATCH connector strap tight 9 Verify that all connections are tight and the child restraint is secure 10 If desired attach Versa Tether as instructed on pages 27 28 Rear facing installation is improved by the use of the Versa Tether but it is not required Important Always store LATCH connectors when not in use by attaching to storage rings on the side of the child restraint Rear facing installation is improved by the use of the Versa Tether but it is not required If you have a problem stabilizing your child restraint place a rolled towel in the crease of the seat to help level the child restraint base Warning DO NOT raise the base beyond horizontal or off of the vehicle seat doing so will reduce the protection for your child Removal To remove the child restraint release both LATCH connectors from the LATCH anchors by pressing the red button f connected disconnect the Versa Tether from the tether anchor Always store LATCH connectors when not in use by attaching to storage rings on the side of the child restraint Rear Fac

13. doubt about installing your child restraint consult your vehicle owner s manual Secure this child restraint with the vehicle belts even when it is not occupied In a crash an unsecured child restraint may injure vehicle occupants When the LATCH Connectors are not in use they must be secured in the LATCH storage pouches If the LATCH connectors are loose they may injure vehicle occupants WARNING The primary protection for occupants of a vehicle in a collision is the body of the vehicle itself and a child restraint will not protect a child when the vehicle is seriously impacted However correctly installed this restraint will substantially improve the chances for survival in most accidents M ake sure that you fully understand the correct way to use this child restraint in your vehicle DO NOT place any child restraint in the front seat of a vehicle with a passenger air bag unless the air bag is turned off DEATH or SERIOUS INJURY can occur The back seat is the safest place for children under 12 Owners of vehicles with air bags should refer to their owner s manual for child restraint installation instructions Britax recommends that all child restraints be installed in the rear seat Install this child restraint only in vehicle seats which face forward Do not install this seat on vehicle seats facing sideways or backwards Child Restraint Featu LATCH Harness Adjuster Release Button
14. e mode use recline adjust knob to adjust the seat angle so that level line is hori zontal with the ground To return seat to normal recline mode hold base with one hand while lifting the top of seat shell upward with the other hand A Recline Adjustment Using the Buckle Fastening the Buckle Unbuckle 1 Hold the buckle with one hand 2 Use your other hand to insert one tongue at a time into the buckle Proper connection is confirmed with a positive click after inserting the second buckle tongue Releasing the Buckle 1 Brace the rear of the buckle with hand n 2 Use thumb to press release button until k tongues ejected from buckle NO TE Periodically clean the buckle to ensure proper operation See section Cleaning the Buckle on page 38 Using the Chest Clip Open the chest clip by squeezing the middle tabs then pulling the two pieces apart IMPORTANT The correct height Y for the chest clip is at the middle gt the chest level to the armpit Always make sure that the harness is tight before each use or after any adjustments Oncethe child restraint has been installed in the vehicle follow these instructions to secure your child in the child restraint 1 Loosen the harness by lifting the adjuster lever located in front of the seat while pulling the shoulder straps forward fig A 2 Unfasten the chest dip by squeez ing the middle tab fig

19. is properly secured Releasing the Versa Tether To release the Versa Tether push the adjuster button down and inwards on the tether strap and pull to loosen Unhook the teth er from tether anchor point to release child restraint This method occasionally may be difficult An alternative method is to release the seat belt first Versa Tether Rear Facing Versa Tether 1 Locate the tether and remove from pouch 2 Push the adjuster button then pull to fully extend tether 3 Locate the hook on the strap The hook latch can be opened and closed by pressing your thumb against the latch 4 Place the restraint in the selected vehicle seating position Follow the section Installation Rear Facing on pages 11 16 5 Locate an acceptable location for the tether to be anchored Use a b or c whichever provides a more stable and secure mounting Check your vehicle owner s manual or contact your vehicle s manufacturer for proper tether attachment anchorages WARNING DO NOT Hook the Versa Tether to the bottom of a vehicle seat adjuster 6 Attach the tether hook to the anchor then tighten by pulling the adjustment strap until all slack is removed SE Versa Tether 7 Verify that there is tension in the tether strap and that child restraint is properly secured IM PORTANT The proper child restraint angle is the angle where your child ia comfortably back but never more than 45 degrees from vertical Releasi

21. ng the Versa Tether To release the Versa Tether push the adjuster button down and inwards on the tether strap and pull to loosen Unhook the teth er from tether anchor point to release child restraint This method occasionally may be difficult An alternative method is to release the seat belt first Using the Tether Connector Strap rear facing only Sometimes it is not possible to find a location to properly anchor the tether or the structural part of the seat is too large for the hook Use the tether connector strap to assist in connecting to an anchor point 1 Locate a seat frame bar vehicle seat leg or a fixed vehicle seat belt anchor that is bolted to the floor which the strap can be wrapped around 2 Loop the strap around the metal anchor then take the metal d ring and lace it through the hole on the other side of the strap 3 Pull the metal d ring all the way through until strap is tight around the tether anchor 4 Attach the tether hook to the strap or d ring Pull blue recline latch up to adjust seat into one of four normal posi tions fig A If the level line is not horizontal with the ground in normal recline mode it may be necessary to install the child restraint in super recline mode to obtain the proper seat angle To adjust to super recline mode push yellow latch down while pulling up on blue recline latch then pull seat shell to slide it into super recline mode fig B Once in super reclin
22. ook the shoulder straps from the yoke on the rear of child restraint 3 Pull straps through the shell and cover to the front of the seat 4 Lift cover over buckle 5 Gently remove the upper portion of the cover by releasing the elas tic loops Be careful not to damage the energy absorbing foam 6 Pull the harness straps and chest dip through the slots in the cover 7 Release the elastic loops at the bottom of the cover 8 Gently remove the entire cover from the seat WARNING Do not take apart or attempt to take apart the harness It is unnecessary and dangerous to do so Never remove the buckle tongues from the harness They can not be reattached after removal Belly Pad Removal 1 Remove the buckle and belly pad see page 36 2 Slide belly pad off the buckle straps Refitting the Cover To refit the cover reverse Cover Removal directions M ake sure that the shoulder straps are threaded through the chest clips and that the harness is not twisted Buckle Removal 1 Fully recline the child restraint 2 Locate two metal buckle strap retainers on bottom of the seat 3 Pull each retainer away from child restraint to loosen 4 Turn each retainer so that the short side will go through the slot in the seat shell fig A 5 Push the retainer through slots in the shell and cover to the front of the seat Rethreading the Buckle 1 Locate the buckle slots 2 Turn each buckle retainer so that the short side w
