1. Releasing the Harness Buckle 1 Brace the rear of the harness buckle with one hand 2 Use your thumb to press the release button and we slide both tongues to remove from the buckle ER Fig E IMPORTANT Periodically clean the harness buckle to ensure safe operation See page 36 Child Seat Functions How to Adjust Harness Height Unbuckle t IMPORTANT See Important Harness Adjustments on pages 6 7 for instructions on proper harness fit A on your child s height and weight Loosen the harness by lifting the harness adjuster lever while pulling the harness straps forward as JE far as possible Fig F 2 Rotate the head restraint adjustment knob on either side of the child seat to raise or lower the head restraint and harness Fig G NOTE DO NOT force the head restraint adjustment knob in either direction If the knob is difficult to turn the head restraint may be at maximum or minimum height the harness may be tight or the child s weight is pressing against the head restraint cover Securing Your Child 1 Loosen the harness by pressing the adjuster button located on the front of the child seat then pull the shoulder straps forward Fig F 2 Release the chest clip by squeezing the tabs and sliding pieces apart Fig H 3 Unfasten the harness buckle by pressing the release button and sliding the tongues out Fig E 4 Move the harness straps to the side of the child seat Use the harness holder located on the
2. connector is in an upright position you should not switch the LCS connectors The strap may be too tight or twisted or there may be debris in the LCS connector 8 9 A Push the child seat firmly into the vehicle seat while pulling the LCS adjuster strap tight Fig F Verify all connections are secure and that the child seat is stable The child seat is secure when it cannot be moved more than 2 5 an 1 in front to back or side to side at the belt path If the child seat is not secure repeat the procedure or use an alternate seating location When properly installed in the rear facing position the back angle of the child seat should be 30 45 from vertical not to exceed 45 when the car is parked on a level surface Fig G If necessary the proper recline angle can be achieved by placing a rolled towel or pool noodle in the crease of the vehicle seat to level the child seat s base WARNING Do not raise the child seat off the front edge of the vehicle seat This could cause your child seat not to perform as intended e Rear facing installation can be improved by the use of the Versa Tether See pages 25 27 Installation Rear facing Lap Shoulder Belt Installation e Figure A illustrates a typical rear facing lap shoulder belt installation e When not in use always store LCS connectors in storage slots See page 29 1 Recline the child seat and place it rear facing on the vehicle

4. any excess webbing and store in tether pouch Verify there is tension in the tether strap and that the child seat is properly secured e The child seat is secure when it cannot be moved front to back or side to side more than 2 5 cm 1 in at the belt path stallation Versa Tether Tether Connector Strap A WARNING Only use tether connector strap for rear facing tether installation Because every vehicle model is different sometimes you cannot find a location to properly anchor the tether Use the tether connector strap to assist in creating an anchor ge Fig D Find a fixed vehicle anchor point that is bolted to the floor e Ifyou cannot find an acceptable location to create an anchor point contact the vehicle manufacturer to identify a suitable tether connection point 2 Route the strap around the fixed vehicle anchor point 3 Take the metal D ring and thread it through the webbing loop on the other end of the strap Fig D 4 Pull the metal D ring all the way through until the strap is tight 5 Use the D ring as an attachment point for the hook on the tether strap NOTE Store the tether connector strap in the tether pouch when not in use Child Seat Functions Switching the Lower Connector System LCS The LCS strap may need to be switched to the proper belt path in rear facing Fig A versus forward facing Fig B installations If a proper connection of the LCS connectors to the L

6. facing lock off farthest from where the vehicle belt will be buckled Fig B 3 Pull the vehicle belt out then pass it through the rear facing belt slot Fig C e The vehicle belt can be routed over or under the child seat cover 4 Route the vehicle belt across the child seat then through the opposite rear facing belt slot e The vehicle belt must rest behind the child seat buckle strap 5 Verify that the vehicle belt is not twisted position the belt through the open lock off then buckle Fig D 6 Push the child seat firmly into the vehicle seat f while removing the slack from the vehicle belt 7 Tighten the belt close the lock off arm Fig E and replace the cover e The lock off is properly closed when a positive click E is heard Installation Rear facing To prevent breakage never extend the lock off arm beyond its normal open position and always keep the lock off closed when not in use If your vehicle is equipped with an automatic locking retractor ALR use of the lock offs is not required as long as the ALR is locked Check your vehicle owner s manual to determine what type of retractor E your vehicle has and how to lock the retractor WARNING Do not use this seat with a non locking two point Emergency Locking Retractor ELR vehicle belt 8 Verify that the vehicle belt is tight locked and that the child seat is secure e The child seat is secure when it cannot be moved more than

8. position when installed rear facing e This child seat must be in the upright position when installed forward facing NOTE t will be necessary to loosen the tether the vehicle seat belt and or the LCS strap before adjusting the recline position The tether the vehicle seat belt and or the LCS strap must be properly re tightened after adjusting the recline position Infant Body Pillow The Infant Body Pillow is designed to provide better fit and comfort for infants using this child seat For additional side support fold the side flaps inward Fig G NOTE Remove the Infant Body Pillow after child can sit comfortably in the child seat without additional support Child Seat Functions Chest Clip Fastening the Chest Clip Fasten the chest clip by pushing the two halves together until a positive click is heard Fig A Releasing the Chest Clip 1 Squeeze the middle tabs together Fig B 2 Pull apart the two pieces Adjusting the Chest Clip 1 Slide chest clip up or down on harness so it is positioned at the middle of the child s chest level with the child s armpits Fig C 2 Slide the comfort pads to a comfortable location for the child Harness Buckle Fastening the Harness Buckle 1 Hold the harness buckle with one hand 2 Use the other hand to insert one buckle tongue at a time into the harness buckle Fig D e A proper connection is confirmed with a positive click after inserting each buckle tongue
9. straps and side of the cover to aid in holding the straps Child Seat Functions 5 Place child in the child seat 6 Position the harness straps around the child and s fasten the harness buckle Fig A and chest clip GA Fig B Proper connection of the harness buckle is confirmed with a positive click after inserting each buckle tongue 7 Gently pull up on the harness straps to tighten the lap section of the harness which should fit low on the child s body 8 Slowly pull the adjuster strap to tighten the harness around the child Fig C 9 Position the chest clip at the middle of the child s chest level with the armpits Fig D 10 Verify that harness is not twisted and child is properly secured IMPORTANT e Always pull on the harness after securing the child to ensure the buckle tongues are secure in the harness buckle If the buckle will not fasten with a positive click after inserting each buckle tongue the harness buckle or adjuster area may be clogged with food drink or other debris that needs to be removed See page 36 for cleaning instructions Adjust the belts provided with this child seat so they fit snugly around your child A snug strap should not allow any slack It lies in a relatively straight line without sagging It does not press on the child s flesh or push the child s body into an unnatural position The harness should have a comfortable but snug fit around the child You should not
10. 6 kg 5 30 lbs Only use rear facing with children who weigh between 2 3 13 6 kg 5 30 Ibs and whose height is between 55 9 76 2 cm 22 30 in and when the top of the child s head is 2 5 cm 1 in or more below the top of the child seat shell Fig A and when the harness straps are at or slightly below the child s shoulders Fig A If the child cannot be secured within these requirements because the child exceeds height or weight requirements review the forward facing guidelines on page 7 If the child cannot be snugly secured within these requirements because the child is too small selection of a different child seat such as an infant carrier may be required IMPORTANT See How to Adjust Harness Height on page 31 WARNING Do NOT use the child seat rear facing if any of the following apply the child is less than 2 3 kg 5 Ibs in weight or the child is less than 55 9 cm 22 in in height or the child exceeds 13 6 kg 30 Ibs in weight or the child exceeds 76 2 cm 30 in in height or the top of the head is less than 2 5 cm 1 in from the top of the child seat shell Fig A or the harness straps are above the child s shoulders Safety Information Forward Facing Weight 9 1 kg and 1 year 18 1 kg 20 40 lbs Only use forward facing with children who are at least one year of age and who weigh between 9 1 18 1 kg 20 40 Ibs and whose height is between 68 6 101 6

R vehicle belts Lap shoulder ELR vehicle belts without use of the lock off NOTE Refer to your vehicle owner s manual to determine the kind of retractors used in your vehicle and how to operate them Vehicle Compatibility Vehicle Buckle Positions A WARNING The position of the vehicle belt buckle can adversely affect the stability of the child seat If the buckle lies near the position marked wrong V when the vehicle belt is tightened try fitting the child seat in another seating position in the vehicle OR consult your vehicle owner s manual to see if you can lower the vehicle buckle position by twisting the vehicle buckle stalk If it is not possible to achieve the correct position W for the buckle then another seating position MUST be used Vehicle Seating Positions WARNING Forward facing vehicle seats MUST be used with this child seat Side facing or rear facing seats CANNOT be used See diagram below WARNING DO NOT place a child seat rear facing in the front seat of a vehicle with a passenger air bag unless deactivated DEATH or SERIOUS INJURY can occur See your vehicle owner s manual for child seat installation instruc tions The back seat is the safest place for children 12 and under Installation Rear facing Lower Universal Anchorage System LUAS Installation e Figure A illustrates a typical rear facing LUAS installation e Verify that your vehicle is

S connectors from storage slots under the cover See page 29 Pull both LCS connectors completely through the child seat s right side rear facing belt slot Fig B so they are on the outside of the shell NOTE The child seat is assembled with LCS connectors in rear facing mode 2 Press and hold one LCS adjuster release button then pull to extend LCS strap to full length Repeat on the sikei end of the strap 3 Thread the appropriate LCS connector through forward facing belt path Fig C at the back of the child seat 4 Place the child seat sideways in the upright position on the vehicle seat with the back of the child seat facing you 5 Remove the Versa Tether from the pouch and place it up and over the child seat back fallation Forward Facing 6 Attach the closest LCS connector to the farthest LUAS anchor Fig D e Check that the LCS connector strap is not twisted and that the LCS connectors are in an upright position Fig E to ensure proper installation NOTE t may be necessary to switch LCS connectors as shown on page 28 if ANY of the following conditions exist e The LCS connector is not in an upright position Release Top Fig E Button he e The LCS strap is twisted N RS e A positive click is not heard when LCS connector and Ww LUAS anchor are connected A NOTE f a positive click is not heard but the LCS connector is in an upright position you should not gt switch th

UAS anchors cannot be achieved complete the following procedure to switch the connectors 1 Lift the front of the child seat cover to access the LCS connectors 2 Pass the LCS connector strap through the belt path on the child s right side Fig C 3 Pass one LCS connector through the appropriate belt path ensuring that the larger part of the connector is on top for the installation procedure you wish to use Fig D Verify that the harness is not twisted e When installing this child seat in rear facing mode the LCS strap must rest behind the child seat buckle strap NOTE To ensure LCS connector is properly aligned with vehicle s LUAS anchor the connector s red release button should face away from vehicle seat back and the larger of the two connector sections is on top Fig D 4 Replace the cover and continue with the installation procedure Child Seat Functions Storing the LCS Connectors When the LCS connectors are not in use lift the child seat cover to access the LCS storage slots Fig E Fold each end of the LCS adjuster and connector then slide each set into the adjacent slot NOTE Child seats are shipped from Britax with LCS connectors in the storage slots Recline Adjustment Pull the recline handle Fig F then slide the child seat shell into the desired position Release the recline handle then verify the child seat has locked into position WARNING e This child seat must be in the recline

18. be able to pinch excess webbing at the shoulder once the harness is properly secured Care and Maintenance Cover Removal A WARNING Do not take apart the harness Never remove the buckle tongues from the harness They cannot be reattached after removal If reassembled incorrectly the child seat may not perform as intended 1 Remove the infant body pillow 2 Loosen the harness by lifting the harness adjuster lever while pulling both shoulder straps forward as far as possible 3 Unhook the shoulder straps from the harness yoke on the rear of the child seat Fig E 4 Pull the upper harness straps through the head restraint and cover to the front of the child seat 5 Remove the buckle and belly pad See page 35 6 Remove the head restraint portion of the cover Be careful not to damage the energy absorbing foam 7 Remove the energy absorbing foam from the head restraint and set aside 8 Gently remove the upper portion of the cover by pulling it around the head restraint to the front 9 Pull the lower harness straps buckle tongues HUGS chest pads and chest clip through the lower slots in cover 10 Remove the entire cover from the child seat Care and Maintenance Refitting the Cover To refit the cover reverse the above directions Make sure that the shoulder straps are not twisted and are threaded properly through the chest clips cover foam and shell Cleaning the Cover e HAND WASH using

20. cold water and mild soap e LINE or LIE FLAT DRY to prevent the cover from shrinking e DO NOT bleach machine wash machine dry or iron Cleaning the Shell e SPONGE CLEAN using warm water and mild soap e TOWEL DRY e DO NOT use solvents or abrasive cleaners Cleaning the Harness e SPONGE CLEAN using warm water and mild soap e TOWEL DRY e DO NOT bleach machine wash machine dry or disassemble the harness Cleaning the Harness Adjuster Periodically check the adjuster area to be sure it is clean and free of food drink and other debris If debris is present it must be removed to prevent interference with the adjuster mechanism BRUSH AWAY LOOSE DEBRIS using a soft bristled brush SPONGE CLEAN using warm water and mild soap TOWEL DRY DO NOT use solvents abrasive cleaners or disassemble the harness Care and Maintenance Harness Buckle Removal 1 Recline the child seat 2 Locate the metal buckle strap retainer on the E i 4 bottom of the child seat 3 Pull the retainer away from child seat to d loosen 4 Turn the retainer so the short side will go through the slot in child seat shell Fig A 5 Push the retainer through slots in the shell and cover to the top of the child seat Re threading the Harness Buckle 1 Locate slot in cover and shell for harness buckle 2 Turn the buckle retainer so the short side will fit through the slot in the cover and child seat shell Fig A 3 Push the retainer thr

22. equipped with LUAS anchors If LUAS anchors are not available you must use vehicle belt installation methods 1 If stored remove the LCS strap and connectors from the storage slots under the cover See page 29 2 Press and hold one LCS adjuster release button then pull to extend LCS strap to full length Repeat for the remaining LCS connector 3 Thread each LCS connector through the adjacent rear facing belt slot Fig B e The LCS strap must rest behind the child seat buckle strap 4 Recline the child seat and place it sideways on the vehicle seat with the front facing you WARNING This child seat must be in the recline position when installed rear facing See Recline Adjustment on page 29 5 Attach the closest LCS connector to the farthest LUAS anchor Fig C e Check that the LCS connector strap is not twisted and that the LCS connectors are in an upright position Fig D to ensure proper installation 6 Rotate the child seat into the rear facing position 7 Attach the remaining LCS connector to the adjacent LUAS anchor Fig D NOTE t may be necessary to switch the LCS Rear Facing connectors as shown on page 28 if ANY of the following conditions exist Installation Rear facing The LCS connector is not in an upright position Fig D The LCS strap is twisted A positive click is not heard when the LCS connector and LUAS anchor are connected NOTE f a positive click is not heard but the LCS
23. facing Check your vehicle owner s manual for approved tether anchor locations Place the child seat forward facing on the vehicle seat Ensure the bottom of the child seat base is in full contact with the vehicle seat Remove the Versa Tether from the pouch and place it up and over the child seat back Rotate the lock off lever to open the forward facing lock off farthest from where the vehicle belt will be buckled Pull the vehicle belt out then pass it through the forward facing belt path Fig B to the opposite side of the child seat Verify that the vehicle belt is not twisted and then buckle Fig C Push the child seat firmly into the vehicle seat while removing slack first from the lap portion of A Forward Facing the vehicle belt then from the shoulder portion Fig D 7 allation Forward Facing Hold the shoulder belt tight and rotate the lock off until the vehicle belt is secured Fig E If your vehicle is equipped with an automatic locking retractor ALR use of the lock offs is not required as long as the ALR is locked Check your vehicle owner s manual to determine what type of retractor your vehicle has and how to lock the retractor Attach the Versa Tether hook to the designated tether anchor for the chosen seating position Remove all the slack from the tether to secure Store any excess webbing in the tether pouch See pages 25 27 Verify that the vehicle belt is tight and th
