1. to raise lower or move the treadmill 1 Hold the treadmill in the locations shown at the right To decrease the possibility of injury bend your legs and keep your back straight As you raise the treadmill make sure to lift with your legs rather than your back Raise the treadmill about halfway to the vertical position 2 Hold the treadmill frame firmly with your left hand Using your right hand pull the latch knob to the right and hold it Raise the treadmill until the pin on the latch knob is aligned with the hole in the left handgrip Then release the latch knob Make sure that the latch knob is fully released so the pin is fully inserted into the hole in the left handgrip To protect the floor or carpet from damage place a mat under the treadmill Keep the treadmill out of direct sunlight Do not leave the treadmill in the stor age position in temperatures above 85 Fahrenheit HOW TO MOVE THE TREADMILL Before moving the treadmill convert the treadmill to the storage position as described above Make sure that the pin on the latch knob is fully inserted into the hole in the left handgrip 1 Hold the handgrips and place one foot on the base 2 Tilt the treadmill back until it rolls freely on the wheels Carefully move the treadmill to the desired location To re duce the risk of injury use extreme caution while moving the treadmill Do not attempt to move the treadmill over an uneven surfa
2. 130 125 114115 MAX FAT BURN 145 138 130 125 118 110 103 FAT BURN 125 120 115 110 105 95 90 Age 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 To find the proper heart rate for you first find your age near the bottom of the chart ages are rounded off to the nearest ten years Next find the three numbers above your age The three numbers define your train ing zone The lower two numbers are recommended heart rates for fat burning the highest number is the recommended heart rate for aerobic exercise To measure your heart rate during exercise use the handgrip pulse sensor If your heart rate is too high or too low adjust the speed or incline of the treadmill Fat Burning To burn fat effectively you must exercise at a relatively low intensity level for a sustained period of time During the first few minutes of exercise your body uses easily accessible carbohydrate calories for en ergy Only after the first few minutes does your body begin to use stored fat calories for energy If your goal is to burn fat adjust the speed or incline of the tread mill until your heart rate is near the lowest number in your training zone For maximum fat burning adjust the speed or incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near the middle number in your training zone Aerobic Exercise If your goal is to strengthen your cardiovascular sys tem your exercise must be aerobic Aerobic exercise is activity that requires large amounts
3. at www iFIT com and ac cess programs directly from the internet Additional op tions are soon to be available See www iFIT com for more information To use the manual mode of the console follow the steps beginning on page 10 To use a personal trainer program see page 12 To use a heart rate program see page 14 To use an iFIT com CD or video pro gram see page 18 To use an iFIT com program di rectly from our Web site see page 20 HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER 1 Plug in the power cord see page 8 Locate the reset off circuit breaker on the treadmill near the power Reset cord Switch the circuit Position breaker to the reset position Stand on the foot rails of the treadmill Find the clip attached to the key see the drawing on page 9 and slide the clip onto the waistband of your clothes Next route the cord attached to the clip under the handgrip pulse sensor and insert the key into the console After a moment the displays and various indicators will light Test the clip by carefully taking a few steps backward until the key is pulled from the console If the key is not pulled from the console adjust the position of the clip HOW TO USE THE MANUAL MODE 1 Insert the key into the console See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER above 2 Select the manual mode When the key is in serted the manual mode will be selected and the indicator on the Manual button will light If you have selected a program reselect the
4. column to the right will flash and a series of tones will sound If the speed and or in cline of the treadmill is about to change the Speed display and or the Distance Incline display will flash to alert you When the first segment ends all speed settings will move one column to the left The speed setting for the second segment will then be shown in the flashing Current Segment column and the treadmill will automatically adjust to the speed and incline settings for the second segment Note If all of the indicators in the Current Segment column are lit after the speed settings have moved to the left the speed settings may move downward so that only the highest indicators appear in the matrix lf some of the indicators in the Current Segment column are not lit when the speed set tings move to the left again the speed settings will move back up The program will continue in this way until the speed setting for the last segment is shown in the Current Segment column and the last segment ends The walking belt will then slow to a stop If the speed or incline setting is too high or too low at any time during the program you can manually override the setting by pressing the Speed or Incline buttons Every few times a Speed button is pressed an additional indicator will light or darken in the Current Segment column If any of the columns to the right of the Current Segment col umn have the same number of lit indicators as the Current Se
5. how long the program will last The matrix will show the first seven speed settings of the program Note The diagrams on the Walk Jog and Run buttons show how the speed and incline of the treadmill will change during the personal trainer programs For example the diagram on the right Walk button shows that the speed and in cline will gradually increase during the first half of the program and then gradually decrease during the last half 0000000000 0000000000 0000000000 0000000000 0000000000 0000000000 0000000000 Press the Start button or the Speed increase button to start the program A moment after the button is pressed the tread mill will automatically adjust to the first speed and incline settings of the program Hold the handrails and begin walking Each program is divided into several time seg ments of different lengihs One speed setting and one incline setting are programmed for each seg ment Note The same speed setting and or in cline setting may be programmed for two or more consecutive segments 12 The speed setting for the first segment is shown in the flashing Current Segment column of the matrix The incline set tings are not shown in the matrix The speed settings for the next seven segments are shown in the seven columns to the right Current Segment When only three seconds remain in the first seg ment of the program both the Current Segment column and the
6. key is fully inserted into the console near the power cord If the switch protrudes as shown the circuit breaker has tripped To reset the circuit breaker wait for five min utes and then press the switch back in Tripped Reset The power turns off during use a Cc d Check the reset off circuit breaker see the drawing above If the circuit breaker has tripped wait for five minutes and then press the switch back in Make sure that the power cord is plugged in If the power cord is plugged in unplug it wait for five minutes and then plug it back in Remove the key from the console Reinsert the key fully into the console If the treadmill still will not run please call our Customer Service Department The displays of the console do not function properly a Remove the key from the console and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Next remove the screws from the hood and carefully remove the hood Locate the Reed Switch 17 and the Magnet 12 on the left side of the Pulley 11 Turn the Pulley until the Magnet is aligned with the Reed Switch Make sure that the gap between the Magnet and the Reed Switch is about 1 8 If necessary loosen the indicated Screw 44 and move the Reed Switch slightly Retighten the Screw Re attach the hood and run the treadmill for a few minutes to check for a correct speed reading 23 PROBLEM The walking belt slows when walked o
7. plug the power cord into a surge suppressor not included and plug the surge suppressor into a grounded circuit capable of carrying 15 or more amps No other appliance should be on the same circuit Do not use an extension cord 10 Use only a single outlet surge suppressor that meets all of the specifications described on page 8 To purchase a surge suppressor see your local PROFORM dealer or call 1 800 806 3651 and order part number 146148 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 Failure to use a properly functioning surge suppressor could result in damage to the con trol system of the treadmill If the control sys tem is damaged the walking belt may change speed or stop unexpectedly which may result in a fall and serious injury Keep the power cord and the surge suppres sor away from heated surfaces Never move the walking belt while the power is turned off Do not operate the treadmill if the power cord or plug is damaged or if the treadmill is not working properly See BEFORE YOU BEGIN on page 5 if the tread mill is not working properly Never start the treadmill while you are stand ing on the walking belt Always hold the handrails while using the treadmill The treadmill is capable of high speeds Adjust the speed in small increments to avoid sudden jumps in speed The pulse sensor is not a medical device Various factors including the user s move ment may affect the accuracy of hea
8. shown Look under the console as sembly and locate the Console Wire Harness 71 Cut the plastic ties securing the Upright Wire Harness 85 to the right Upright 65 Connect the Upright Wire Harness to the Console Wire Harness 71 Make sure to connect the connectors properly see the inset draw ing The connectors should slide together easily and snap into place If the connectors do not slide together easily and snap into place turn one connector and try again IF THE CONNECTORS ARE NOT CONNECTED PROPERLY THE CONSOLE MAY BE DAMAGED WHEN THE POWER IS TURNED ON 2 Insert the excess Wire Harnesses 71 85 into the right Upright 65 Console Assembly Set the console assembly on the Uprights 65 While a second person holds the console assembly attach the console assembly with four Console Bolts 99 and four Console Washers 69 as shown Firmly tighten the Console Bolts 3 With the help of a second person raise the treadmill Frame 55 Hold the Latch Housing 68 and the Latch Housing Cover 5 against the sides of the Frame as shown Loosely thread the two blunt tipped 1 2 Screws 105 into the Latch Housing Cover and the Latch Housing as shown Do not tighten the Screws yet Remove the knob from the pin Make sure that the collar and the spring are on the pin The collar should be on the side of the spring shown Insert the pin into the Latch Housin

CORD Using the allen wrench turn both rear roller bolts clockwise 1 4 of a turn When the walking belt is cor rectly tightened you should be able to lift each side of the walking belt 2 to 3 inches off the walking platform Be careful to keep the walking belt centered Plug in the power cord insert the key and carefully walk on the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat until the walk ing belt is properly tightened 24 EXERCISE GUIDELINES AWARNING Before beginning this or any exercise program consult your physi cian This is especially important for individu als over the age of 35 or individuals with pre existing health problems The pulse sensor is not a medical device Various factors including the user s move ment may affect the accuracy of heart rate readings The pulse sensor is intended only as an exercise aid in determining heart rate trends in general The following guidelines will help you to plan your ex ercise program For more detailed exercise informa tion obtain a reputable book or consult your physician EXERCISE INTENSITY Whether your goal is to burn fat or to strengthen your cardiovascular system the key to achieving the desired results is to exercise with the proper intensity The proper intensity level can be found by using your heart rate as a guide The chart below shows recom mended heart rates for fat burning and aerobic exercise HEART RATE TRAINING ZONES AEROBIC 165 155 145 140

12. a program Read and follow the on line instructions for using a program Follow the on line instructions to start the program When you start the program an on screen count down will begin 7 Return to the treadmill and stand on the foot rails Find the clip attached to the key and slide the clip onto the waistband of your clothes When the on screen countdown ends the program will begin and the walking belt will begin to move Hold the handrails step onto the walking belt and begin walking During the program an electronic chirping sound will alert you when the speed and or incline of the treadmill is about to change CAUTION Always listen for the chirp and be prepared for speed and or incline changes If the speed or incline settings are too high or too low you can manually override the settings by pressing the Speed or Incline buttons on the con sole However when the next chirp is heard the speed and or incline will change to the next settings of the program To stop the walking belt at any time press the Stop button on the console The time will begin to flash in the Pace Time display To restart the pro gram press the Start button or the Speed in crease button After a moment the walking belt will begin to move at 1 mph When the next chirp is heard the speed and incline will change to the next settings of the program When the program ends the walking belt will stop and the time

19. e fan To turn on the fan at high speed press the button a second time To turn off the fan press the but ton a third time Note A few minutes after the walking belt is stopped the fan will automatically turn off When you are finished exercising remove the key from the console Step onto the foot rails press the Stop button and adjust the incline of the treadmill to the lowest setting The incline must be at the lowest setting when the treadmill is folded to the storage posi tion or the treadmill will be damaged Next re move the key from the console and put it in a se cure place Note If the displays and various indi cators on the console remain lit after the key is removed the console is in the demo mode See page 21 and turn off the demo mode When you are finished using the treadmill switch the reset off circuit breaker to the off position and unplug the power cord HOW TO USE PERSONAL TRAINER PROGRAMS 1 Insert the key into the console See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 10 2 Select one of the personal trainer programs To select a personal trainer program press one of the Walk Jog or Run buttons The indi cator on the button that you press will light When a personal trainer program is selected the Speed display will flash the maximum speed set ting of the program for a few seconds and the Distance lncline display will flash the maximum in cline setting The Pace Time display will show
20. e same target heart rate is programmed for all segments During each segment the console will regularly compare your heart rate to the current target heart rate If your heart rate is too far below or above the target heart rate a tone will sound and the speed of the treadmill will automatically increase or decrease to bring your heart rate closer to the target heart rate If the speed reaches the maxi mum speed setting of the program see step 5 on page 14 and your heart rate is still too far below the current target heart rate the incline of the treadmill will also increase to bring your heart rate closer to the target heart rate During the last three seconds of each segment a series of tones will sound and the Speed display and the Distance Incline display will flash The program will continue until the last segment ends The walking belt will then slow to a stop If the speed or incline setting is too high or too low at any time during the program you can adjust the setting with the Speed or Incline buttons However each time the console compares your heart rate to 15 the current target heart rate the speed and or in cline of the treadmill may automatically change to bring your heart rate closer to the target heart rate If your pulse is not detected during the program the letters PLS will flash in the Calories Pulse display and the speed and incline of the treadmill may automatically decrease until your pulse
