4. about HAARP later in this Newsletter The OVH expects shortly to embark on supporting the fairly new technology known as D STAR thanks especially to Mark WA4KFZ who has made a very generous offer which will enable the OVH to do that Some of you may be hesitant to jump in understandably so I can tell you the audio takes some getting use to but I have already seen its benefits just in day to day communications At the next meeting we ll have a small demo and you can see and hear yourself the variations Even though ICOM is currently the only hardware vendor for this radio equipment other options and development are likely Numbers count and there is already a lot of availability of local D Star repeaters in this area across the U S and elsewhere too I also look forward to seeing all of you at upcoming monthly OVH meeting on Monday January 19th at 7 30 PM at the NOVEC Technical Center in Gainesville Virginia where we ll be able to answer additional questions about D STAR Also if you haven t already paid your dues to renew your membership for 2009 using the form at w4ovh net or later in this newsletter you may pay up at that meeting See you there 73 George K4GVT OVH ARC Newsletter January 2009 Pg 1 of 12 Ole Virginia Hams Amateur Radio Club Inc Post Office Box 1255 Manassas Virginia 20108 OFFICERS JOTA President George Tarnovsky K4GVT 791 5956 John H KG4NXT 257 3566 Vice Pres Wayne Kline AG4ZZ 791 2100 Secretary Wayne
