23. ravel Film Festival is the brainchild of film maker Austin Vince and travel author Lois Pryce Here s how it all came about Over the last ten years or so we have been sent tons of fantastic travel films from all over the world by largely unknown film makers They came from all over the globe and covered every form of transport boats bicycles buses motorcycles 4x4s and even hitch hiking and train hopping The adventure travel shows we saw on TV although polished and professional were nothing in comparison to the real life dramas that were arriving in our letterbox As time passed we gradually realised that we were accruing a fairly extensive and possibly definitive collection of adventure travel films It occurred to us that this had to be the tip of an iceberg Once we started searching actively films came to the surface that were absolutely mind blowing We were amazed and excited that adventures of this quality old and new were essentially unknown by the public Our mission is to change all that Film festivals don t usually have manifestos so here s ours To showcase the best independent adventure travel films ever made To guarantee a platform for future adventure film makers To bring together the adventure travel community We know that making a good film isn t difficult we will show you how To have loads of fun while doing all the above Film festivals are usually based around cinema screens in cities In the
24. rds Grabben Gullen the fog now gone and with daylight making the run from here to Crookwell a delight with the bike flowing through the corners Arriving into Crookwell earlier than planned set up in Pauls Cafe to thaw out and study road maps in anticipation Mark arrives on his RT1200 and in the absence of the others we consider the route to Lake Cargelligo and after discarding several options agree on a circular route that will take us north on back roads through Wyangala Dam to Canowindra where we will then turn west and follow the Lachlan River to Eugowra Forbes onto Condobolin and then finally Lake Cargelligo Roughly 600kms by my calculation A reasonable day s ride considering there will be gravel surfing involved Stephen arrives on his HP 2 and not long afterwards Barry lands on his 1200GSA After warming coffees and toast we head north to Bigga the terrain is hilly with plenty of corners to get us into the right frame of mind Leaving Bigga towards Reids Flat we get onto gravel roads and encounter some friendly wildlife wallabies amp kangaroos who seem determined to share the road with us The views are spectacular as the road follows the hills and the road condition is perfect for a steady pace While waiting for the tail end Charlies at the Reids Flat turnoff to Wyangala Stephen and spend a few minutes shooting the breeze with a farm hand and his not so friendly dog After 10 minutes we decide something is amiss a
25. ready to go at 7 00am but the back tyre has gone down overnight so after removing the local super burrs from our tyres we park ourselves at the local servo awaiting the attendant Refuelled and re aired we strike out to Griffiths for breakfast about 120kms away The ride in the cool morning air is wonderful with the countryside gradually changing from swampy Lake Cargelligo to the lush soil and gardens of Griffith Griffith is like arriving in Italy the town is thick with its Italian heritage and the local bakery boasts food and coffee which would shame some top restaurants in Canberra As the saying goes you won t find a bad coffee on Griffith Striking out for home we take a more southerly route towards Crookwell via Temora Cootamundra and Harden amp Boorowa The first hour is a real drone as its essentially flat farming land with no relief of hills and valleys Plus we have the added joy of a police car travelling with us playing cat and mouse From Temora we take the back roads to Coota then even more back roads to Harden complete with some gravel surfing These roads are relatively rough but they are quiet with little traffic and are perfect for the GS It s sunny warm the road is open and flowing what more can we want We fuel up at Boorowa and then onto Crookwell with more flowing corners and no traffic this has to be one of our best local motorcycling roads At Crookwell we replenish the riders agree the timing for

29. s Christmas Party details are in this magazine and am sure many of you will get the email reminders Please come along for a great social get together with friends and your partner can meet all those riding mates that you tell colourful stories about There will be prizes for those that entered their bike in the Club Concourse which could be re named the GS show and some brain twisting quizzes and a raffle The Kosciuszko Rally last month had the best weather and ideal camping conditions Unfortunately the number of entrants was down on previous years due to some conflicting rallies and lots of other events such as the Moto GP on the following weekend to fill many riders calendar If you have a suggestion to improve the Kosciuszko Rally please let me or one of the committee know We appreciate all suggestions and ideas to make club events relevant and appealing Resort based rallies seem to have more attraction than basic camping what do you think The committee has made several changes to how we conduct club events in response to feedback from many members The biggest change this year has been to make our meetings less formal and the introduction of Sunday breakfast meetings with coffee and bacon amp egg rolls at a handy picnic area has been one of them The next casual meeting will be at Casuarina Sands at the Cotter Reserve on eunday 25th November hope to see you there The other big change will be the introduction in 2013
