1. Licensee shall have no ownership rights in any Licensed Products or Documentation Buzz Tools retains all title and ownership interest in the 104 Buzz Tools I Licensed Products and Documentation and any intellectual property embodied therein such as copyrights or patents Any attempt by Licensee to transfer any ownership rights in the Licensed Products or Documentation shall a be null and void b constitute a material breach and grounds for immediate termination of this Agreement and c trigger an immediate obligation on Licensee to return of all Licensed Products and Documentation 4 LIMITATIONS ON USE OF LICENSED PRODUCTS AND DOCUMENTATION a Licensee shall not use any Licensed Products or Documentation except as authorized herein and shall not make have made or permit to be made any copies of the Licensed Products or Documentation except as expressly authorized herein Licensee shall not reverse engineer decompile or disassemble any Licensed Product for any purpose without Licensor s prior express written consent nor shall Licensee attempt to create the source code from the object code or defeat any software key used to activate the Licensed Products b The license granted herein is personal to Licensee and is not transferable except upon Licensor s prior written consent In particular Licensee shall not attempt to sublicense rent lease or otherwise permit any use by another of any Licensed Product except as

4. browsing the designs as they are stored on your disks And because of this your catalog will not take any additional disk space to create and maintain Buzz Catalog creates your catalogs on the fly and they are temporary that is they re killed off each time you exit the program You can catalog as many or as few folders as you want each time you start Buzz Catalog If for example you are searching for a specific design and know approximately the folder it is contained in you may choose to catalog only a few folders Or perhaps you are looking for a less specific design in which case you may choose to catalog an entire drive Since each time you start Buzz Catalog the catalog structure is created from scratch you can be assured that the designs displayed in your catalog match what is on your computers disks STEP BY STEP Creating a Catalog 1 Start Buzz Catalog by double clicking the Buzz Catalog icon located on your computer desktop Alternatively you can use the program menu from the Windows start button 2 Buzz Catalog will display the Select Files dialog This dialog displays an Explorer like tree of your files 1 Your Catalog 25 3 The first time you start Buzz Catalog the drive that displays is your C drive Use the drop box labeled Drives select the drive that contains the files you want to catalog W NOTE Your drives files of type and ZIP display choices are remembered by Buzz Catalog and will be shown the n
5. folder start on anew page Buzz Catalog can also display and print your designs in an Actual Size view The Actual Size view displays or prints one design per page along with the design information The designs are printed the same size they will be when they are stitched out and may be used as templates for design placement Use the View menu to switch between displayed views Use one of the File Print menus to print either of these views Buzz Catalog can also display a Table of Contents which lists all of the file names in your current catalog Use the View Table of Contents menu to view the Table of Contents 1 Your Catalog 29 ii u t m irh T mer MI Aia MA dina im Cont MS acer MI Ciia ma den Eigen my Courts WE Ca Sich MU Cuar 2 Lace You can use the Table of Contents to jump to a specific file or folder in your catalog With the Table of Contents displayed scroll to see the file or folder you want Click on it to select it and then click Go To Buzz Catalog will display the catalog page that contains the desired file or folder You can also print a Table of Contents for your designs by using the File Print Table of Contents menu item When you print a Table of Contents your printout will only list folders individual file names are not printed 30 Buzz Tools Chapter 2 Editing Design Files Once you have created your catalog you can double click on your design files to ed
6. on the fly by double clicking on a design see previous chapter or you can convert a batch of design files at once by choosing the Convert Design Files option from the Tools menu Why convert Different embroidery machines require different design file formats If you are going to use another machines designs you will need to convert the design to a format your embroidery machine can understand This historically was done one design atatime by a program separate from the embroidery program If you always use Buzz Catalog to locate your designs and to launch your embroidery machine software you do not need to convert designs ahead of time Buzz Catalog will automatically convert designs for you as needed when you double click on a design In addition to being a convenience this can also be quite a benefit Every time a design is converted some information is lost in the process If you keep your designs in their original format you can be assured that you are keeping the most accurate and detailed On the flv Design Conversions on page 31 for more information pe Ge Sint i a mp m m m kt Gn m a a m ine stint le tani about on the fly design conversions If you want to be able to open your designs directly from your embroidery software or if your embroidery software is the Poem Singer EU or Viking Huskygram you will need to do your 3 Converting Design Files 37 conversions ahead of time Or perhaps you sell your de
7. on the Edit All button another dialog box will open which allows you to modify the actions associated with all of the design file types This is convenient if you want to set up all design file types to open with the same program and to be converted to the same file type on the fly E Dea PEG Fi Ta Tage l Doers Check the Convert XXX Files To Type box if you want XXX file type to be converted on the fly where XXX is the file type you are currently editing Open With Executable File Path This field contains the program used to edit the file or the on the fly converted file Click this button to bring up a File Open dialog box to help you locate your embroidery software Program Name The purpose of this field is primarily to help you fill in the Executable File Path field This field lists some common embroidery programs If you choose one of these you can click on the Find It button to have Buzz Catalog fill Buzz Catalog Command Reference 71 in the Executable File Path for you This field also lists the choices Explorer association or None and Other If you choose Explorer associated or None Buzz Catalog will see if there is a program associated with this file type in Explorer You can see these associations by choosing the View Options menu from Explorer and clicking on the File Types tab If so Buzz Catalog will use the associated program to open this file type If
8. palette as black even if the color is a valid Janome thread color The color palette used by Buzz Catalog to represent the Janome New Home colors was created by matching the actual thread color to the Janome New Home SEW color code This information also applies to users of the Elna Envision Scan PC as they also use the SEW design file format 3 Converting Design Files 41 File Splitting Each embroidery file format comes with certain file limitations and restrictions Typically these limitations are on the number of stitches a design may have or the number of color breaks The limitations are specific to the design format you are converting to and are usually not up for negotiation For example if your embroidery software is the Janome Easy Scan your embroidery machine cannot sew any design that contains over twelve colors When you convert a design to the SEW format that contains twenty colors you will not be able to use the final design unless the design has been divided into parts During conversions Buzz Catalog can split a design with too many colors or stitches in two or more files By default the design in this example would be divided into two files File one would contain the color breaks one through twelve and file two would contain the color breaks thirteen though twenty This PES design had to be split into two parts to convert correctly to PCS The new files names will be the original name wit

11. with lots of pages in your catalog with only one design per page STEP BY STEP Extracting ZIP d Designs If you always use Buzz Catalog to launch your embroidery software and to open your designs you do not need to extract your designs from their ZIP files If you want to be able to open them directly from your embroidery software you will need to extract your designs from their ZIP files Use this procedure to extract or unzip all of the files contained within your ZIP files 1 BACKUP the original ZIP files You can do this by copying the ZIP files to diskettes or to another type of removable media Label date and put the backups in a safe location away from excessive heat or magnetic fields such as magnetic pin holders This is especially important if you are going to have Buzz Catalog delete the original ZIP files after it has extracted them 2 Start Buzz Catalog 3 Using the Select Files dialog choose the file type and zip display option As Files NOTE Although you can extract ZIP files when your ZIP s are displayed As Folders it can be more confusing for the beginning user as the extracted files are not displayed adjacent to the original ZIP d design If you do have your ZIP s display As Folders you will need to create a new catalog or refresh the existing catalog before your extracted files will display 5 Zip Archives amp Your Catalog 55 4 Choose the folders that contain the ZIP s you want
12. your computer desktop Be sure to check the Readme file for any late breaking news You can open this file by double clicking on its icon Install BuzzEdit Lite BuzzEdit is a full featured embroidery stitch editor that allows you to edit your existing designs to create your own personal work of art As an added bonus to our Buzz Tools users we have included a free cut down version of BuzzEdit on the installation CD With BuzzEdit Lite you can change the colors of your embroidery designs watch your design sew and perform minor design 20 Buzz Tools editing such as mirror and rotate In addition from the CD browser you will find a few video tutorials to help you with this product To install BuzzEdit Lite 1 5 From Installation CD browser choose the option Install BuzzEdit Lite The Software License Agreement dialog box opens This dialog box displays the License Agreement between you and Buzz Tools Inc You must accept the License Agreement before you can install BuzzEdit If you do not accept the terms of the License Agreement you should not install this Click Yes to accept The Select Components dialog box opens shown on next page On it you will be asked what components you want to install The sample designs are optional and may be installed later or not at all You can also change the installation directory The default program directory is C Program Files Buzz Tools BuzzEdit

Buzz Tools products Many of the designs shown in the examples are available here http annthegran com This web site contains hundreds of free designs contributed by members of the BBD home embroidery community and hundreds of links to other sewing related web sites From the links on these two sites and you will find other embroidery web sites and potentially download thousands of designs all for free Including ZIP s in Your Catalog It is easy to include ZIP files in your catalog On the Select Files dialog choose from the following ZIP display options None Zip files are not included in your catalog Cup6c pes Cup6c pes gt tritsch zip 3 78x3 76 inches 29 520 stitches 3 78x3 76 inches 29 520 stitches 12 thread changes 9 colors 12 thread changes 9 colors As Files The files within each ZIP file are treated as other files in your catalog and are displayed along side other unzipped files in same folder The files are sorted by the file name and not the name of the ZIP file that contains them 54 Buzz Tools The name of the file is displayed before the name of the ZIP and is separated from itbya gt As Folders Not shown The ZIP files are treated as folders within Buzz Catalog It is important to remember that if you select this option each ZIP will start on its own page in the catalog If you happen to have a lot of ZIP files in your catalog that contain only one file each you will end up

This default setting is the recommended one If this is not the location you want to use you may use the browse button to locate another directory or you may type the directory name in the text bar on the dialog box If the directory you chose does not exist you will be prompted and if you wish the directory will be created for you Setup will add program icons to the program folder Buzz Tools This is the recommended location for the BuzzEdit program icons Click Next gt Follow the directions on the remaining BuzzEdit installation dialogs to install BuzzEdit onto your computer At the end of installation the Buzz Tools program group displays and a BuzzEdit icon is visible on your computer desktop Be sure to check the BuzzEdit Readme file for any late breaking news Installation 21 To remove Buzz Tools 1 From the Windows Start menu select Settings Control Panel 2 From the control panel double click on Add Remove programs 3 Using the scroll bar locate the program name Buzz Tools and click on it to select it Click Add Remove On the Confirm File Deletion dialog box click Yes 22 Buzz Tools Part Two User s Guide 24 Buzz Tools Chapter 1 Your Catalog What is this catalog The Buzz Tools program Buzz Catalog displays your designs in the directory structure you have on your disks You will not be moving your designs into a separate catalog structure but rather
18. able file path is correct If not use the or button to correct it 6 Click OK Now all of your stitched based designs will convert on the fly to the same type your embroidery software expects If you want to have everything converted to one type as above except you want one specific file type opened with a different program you would still do the steps above and then do the following You might want to do this if you have more then one embroidery program installed on your computer STEP BY STEP Changing one of your on the fly settings 1 Go to the File Settings menu Highlight the file type you want to change 2 3 Click EDIT I Not the Edit All button this time 4 Check the box in front of Convert Design file type to and set the file type to the one of your choice must be supported by the embroidery program you are using to open it 34 Buzz Tools E Corsa PET Fist Ta Type HE a Den iii Eragin H araw E i J Es sz tis File Pal mg 5 Select the name of your embroidery software from the Open With box This software must support the type you chose in the last step 7 Verify that the executable file path is correct If not use the or button to correct it 6 Click OK 2 Editing Design Files 35 36 Buzz Tools Chapter 3 Converting Design Files Buzz Catalog will convert your stitched based design files from one design file format to another for you You can either do this
19. alog and will be shown the next time you open the select files dialog Zip Display By default your catalog will include designs stored in zip archive files These designs will be sorted by the file names within each zip Click on the red boxes next to directory or file names to select or de select files Selecting a directory in this way selects all of the files in the directory and its sub directories ea i 1 The Select Files dialog box is also discussed on page 27 Refresh Catalog Scans the folders in your catalog for new or deleted files and adjusts your catalog accordingly Use this option after copying or deleting design files Clear Catalog Removes your current catalog and displays the page of start up bees Print Table of Conterts Prints the table of contents for your catalog Unlike the displayed Table of Contents this option prints only folder names Buzz Catalog Command Reference 67 W NOTE All three of the Print menu items bring up a dialog box where you can choose the starting and ending page and select the printer Print Summary Prints some or all of the pages in your catalog in Summary view Print Actual Size Prints some or all of the designs in your catalog in Actual Size view If you are in Summary view when you select this option the page range for the printout will default to those designs shown on the current summary page If you are in Summary view a
20. atalog the color stops are assigned a color value so that vou can get an idea of what the design will look like All DST and EXP files display in Buzz Catalog 40 Buzz Tools with the same color sequence and a line displayed for each color stop rather than a color value This is so you can write in your color choices on a printed catalog if you like Harwari Gold i F r Dein Disg Green f beron Tilo ti Deap Geil T Bis Acrei sche 3 ffe mh 16 731 chen J Tosh adaa IE ei T than changes 9 cora F Urad ohare kiri The original PES design looses color values when converted to DST When EXP or DST designs are converted to another file format that requires the color value Buzz Catalog does not know what color the digitizer intended for the color breaks Should color break one be green for a tree or blue for sky Therefore when the file is converted Buzz Catalog assigns its color choices to the file These of course do not relate to an actual color value but represent the color break present in the original file b NOTE FOR JANOME amp ELNA USERS Buzz Catalog converts designs to the SEW format using the entire SEW color palette Although these converted designs may not display correctly in your Janome New Home software they will display correctly in Buzz Catalog and your sewing machine will ask for the correct color This is due to the fact that the Janome software displays all colors that are not in its regular
21. atalog displays your designs in a Summary view shown on next page Each page of your catalog displays multiple designs the number of rows and columns of designs on each page can be changed by using File Page Layout You can also set the amount of design information you want displayed with each design with the View Summary Information menu or in File Page Layout Your choices are Filename Only Only the design file name is included Sew Summary Not shown The filename design size the number of stitches and the number of colors are included for each design Phartr pue Filename Only 1 Your Catalog 27 Color Breaks The colors and stitching order are displayed along with the filename design size the number of stitches and the number of colors Pariri per Ves AZ hetes DIEI ah babe cares 11 oaks Color Breaks The dimensions of the catalog page reflect the page size associated with your printer Thus the catalog will print just as it is displayed TARKETT Mi u Summary View with all available information displayed The summary view displayed above is set to landscape mode In general landscape mode will fill more of your computer screen This is also how the catalog will print unless these settings are changed before printing 28 Buzz Tools The designs are sorted by folder just as in Windows Explorer Within each folder the designs are sorted by name Designs in each different
22. ches This has the effect of making the finished design denser Reduce a design too much and the stitches will be too close together to stitch For most designs vou can reduce them up to ten percent without anv adverse stitching affects Buzz Catalog flags every resized design with a so that you can easily identify them in your catalog and monitor them as you embroidery 3 Converting Design Files 43 them on your machine For a lot of designs you can improve the stitching quality of reduced designs by using a lighter weight thread STEP BY STEP How to Convert Designs 1 BACKUP the original design files You can do this by copying the files to diskettes or to another type of removable media Label date and put backups in a safe location away from excessive heat or magnetic fields such as pin holders This is especially important if you are going to have Buzz Catalog delete the original design files after conversion W NOTE It is essential to save a backup of your original files before you convert and delete them That way ifthere are any problems during the conversion you will not lose your valuable design files Once you have created this backup it is safe to let Buzz Catalog delete the original design files as they are converted 2 Start Buzz Catalog 3 Using the Select Files dialog choose the file type you want to convert from and the folders you want to convert files in If you do not want to convert an entire fo

48. nd original file This last option is an ideal way to judge the results of the conversion 38 Buzz Tools How Your Files are Processed Each converted design is saved to the same folder containing the original design file but of course with the new extension However if a newly created design file duplicates an existing file name the existing file will not be overwritten Instead Buzz Catalog first compares the existing design file with the new file If they are exactly the same the new file is not written at all If the file contents are different in any way Buzz Catalog creates a new name for the new design file The new name will be the original name with a number appended to the end If you do not like the names selected you can rename them from Explorer after the conversion process is complete Once the new design file is created the original design file is deleted if and only if you specified the Delete Converted Files option Using this option has two advantages First you will have a clean folder when finished Second it will allow you to see exactly where the conversion left off if the conversion gets interrupted Remember if you are going to use this option to save a copy of the original design Colors During Conversions Each embroidery file format comes with certain standard colors and restrictions Some design formats have only a few color choices and some have a plethora And some designs dont contain co
