Note If there are thin sheets of clear plastic on the console remove them FEATURES OF THE CONSOLE The treadmill console offers an impressive array of features that help you get the most from your workouts When the manual mode of the console is selected the speed and incline of the treadmill can be changed with a touch of a button As you exercise the console will display instant exercise feedback You can even mea sure your heart rate using the handgrip pulse sensor or the chest pulse sensor In addition the console offers six preset workout pro grams Each program automatically controls the speed and incline of the treadmill as it guides you through an effective workout Two pulse programs are also offered Each program automatically adjusts the speed and in cline of the treadmill to keep your heart rate within a tar get range while you exercise The console also features iFIT com interactive technol ogy Having iFIT com technology is like having a per sonal trainer in your home Using the included audio cable you can connect the treadmill to your home stereo portable stereo or computer and play special 12 iFIT com CD and video programs iFIT com CDs and videocassettes are available separately FIT com CD and video programs automatically control the speed and incline of the treadmill as a personal trainer guides you throu

3. 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 To find the proper heart rate for you first find your age near the bottom of the chart ages are rounded off to the nearest ten years Next find the three numbers above your age The three numbers define your train ing zone The lower two numbers are recommended heart rates for fat burning the higher number is the recommended heart rate for aerobic exercise To measure your heart rate during exercise use the pulse sensor Fat Burning To burn fat effectively you must exercise at a relatively low intensity level for a sustained period of time During the first few minutes of exercise your body uses easily accessible carbohyarate calories for en 29 ergy Only after the first few minutes does your body begin to use stored fat calories for energy If your goal is to burn fat adjust the speed and incline of the tread mill until your heart rate is near the lowest number in your training zone For maximum fat burning adjust the speed and incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near the middle number in your training zone Aerobic Exercise If your goal is to strengthen your cardiovascular sys tem your exercise must be aerobic Aerobic exercise is activity that requires large amounts of oxygen for prolonged periods of time This increases the demand on the heart to pump blood to the muscles and on the lungs to oxygenate the blood For aerobic exercise adjust the speed and
4. 7a shows the correct route for the wires Drawing 7b shows an incorrect route Locate the Wire Harness 74 and the pulse wire in the Uprights 29 30 Connect the Wire Harness and the pulse wire to the connectors on the sides of the Console Base 101 Make sure to connect the connectors properly see the inset drawings IF THE CONNEC TORS ARE NOT CONNECTED PROPERLY THE CON SOLE MAY BE DAMAGED WHEN THE POWER IS TURNED ON The connectors should slide together easily and snap into place If the connectors do not slide together easily and snap into place turn a connec tor and try to insert it again Insert the excess Wire Harness and pulse wire up into the Console Base 8 Set the Console Base 101 on the Uprights 29 30 Insert any wires into the Uprights Thread four 4 Bolts 76 with four 1 4 Silver Star Washers 77 into the Uprights and the Console Base Be careful not to pinch the Wires not shown in the Uprights Tighten the two Upright Bolts indicated by the arrows first then tighten the other two Upright Bolts Make sure that the Left and Right Trays 109 111 are pressed into the Console Base 101 See step 3 Lower the Uprights 29 30 to the floor as shown Make sure the frame is centered between the Uprights 29 30 Firmly tighten the four 2 1 2 Bolts 61 Raise the Uprights 9 Fold the treadmill to the storage position see page 24 If the Wheels 94 are resting on

View PROBLEM The walking belt slows when walked on SOLUTION a If an extension cord is needed use only a 3 conductor 1mrm 14 gauge cord that is no longer than 5 ft b If the walking belt is overtightened treadmill perfor mance may decrease and the walking belt may be come damaged Remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD Using the allen wrench turn both rear roller adjustment bolts counterclockwise 1 4 of a turn When the walking belt is properly tightened you should be able to lift each side of the walking belt 2 to 3 inches off the walking platform Be careful to keep the walking belt centered Plug in the power cord in sert the key and run the treadmill for a few minutes Rear Roller Adjustment Bolts Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened c If the walking belt still slows when walked on please call our Customer Service toll free PROBLEM The walking belt is off center or slips when walked on SOLUTION a If the walking belt is off center first remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD If the walking belt has shifted to the left use the allen wrench to turn the left rear roller bolt clockwise 1 2 of a turn if the walking belt has shifted to the right turn the left bolt counterclockwise 1 2 of a turn Be careful not to overtighten the walking belt Plug in the power cord insert the key and run the treadmill for a few minutes Repeat unti
8. ended remove the key See step 7 on page 16 THE INFORMATION MODE DEMO MODE The console features an information mode that keeps track of the total number of hours that the treadmill has been operated and the total number of miles that the walking belt has moved The information mode also al lows you to switch the console from miles per hour to kilometers per hour In addition the information mode allows you to turn on and turn off the demo mode To select the information mode hold down the Stop button while inserting the key into the console When the information mode is selected the following informa tion will be shown The Distance Incline display will show the total number of miles or kilometers that the walking belt has moved DISTANCE O INCLINE GRADE The Time Pace display will show the total number of hours the treadmill has been used OPACE MIN mMILE An E for English miles or an for metric kilometers will appear in the Speed dis play Press the Speed A but ton to change the unit of measurement SPEED 23 IMPORTANT The Calories Pulse display should be blank If a ap pears in the display the con sole is in the demo mode This mode is intended to be used only when a treadmill is displayed in a store When the console is in the demo mode the power cord can be plugged in the key can be removed from the console and the displays and in dicators

10. on the console will automatically light in a pre set sequence although the buttons on the console will not operate If a appears in the Calories Pulse display when the information mode is selected press the Speed v button so the display is blank CRLORIES OFAT CALS O PULSE To exit the information mode remove the key from the console HOW TO FOLD AND MOVE THE TREADMILL HOW TO FOLD THE TREADMILL FOR STORAGE Before folding the treadmill adjust the incline to the lowest position If this is not done the treadmill may be per manently damaged Next unplug the power cord CAUTION You must be able to safely lift 45 pounds 20 kg to raise lower or move the treadmill 1 Hold the treadmill with your hands in the locations shown at the right To decrease the possibility of injury bend your legs and keep your back straight As you raise the treadmill make sure to lift with your legs rather than your back Raise the treadmill about halfway to the vertical position 2 Move your right hand to the position shown and hold the treadmill firmly Using your left hand pull the latch knob to the left and hold it Raise the treadmill until the frame is past the latch pin Slowly release the latch knob Make sure that the frame is securely held by the latch pin To protect the floor or carpet from damage place a mat under the treadmill Keep the treadmill out of direct sun light Do not leave the treadmill in the st
11. setting will flash in the Calories Pulse display If you have already entered your age simply press the Enter Age button If you have not entered your age press the A and V buttons beside the Enter Age button to enter your age Then press the Enter Age button CALORIES OFAT CALS OPUSE Y After you have entered your age the letters SPd and the maxi mum speed setting of the program will flash in the Calories Pulse dis play If desired press the A and V buttons beside the Enter Age button to adjust the maximum speed setting When the desired setting is shown press the Enter Age but ton CALORIES EL II OFAT CALS O PULSE Q El Press the Start button or the Speed button to start the program A moment after the button is pressed the tread mill will automatically adjust to the first speed and incline settings of the program Hold the handrails and begin walking Each heart rate program is divided into several time segments of different lengths One target heart rate is programmed for each segment During each segment the console will regularly compare your heart rate to the current target heart rate If your heart rate is too far below or above the target heart rate the speed of the treadmill will 6 automatically increase or decrease to bring your heart rate closer to the target heart rate If the speed reaches the maximum speed setting of the program see step 4 at the left and your
12. the floor or if the tread mill rocks slightly turn one or both of the Leveling Feet 95 under the Upright Base 97 until the Wheels are off the floor and the rocking motion is eliminated Note If necessary tip the treadmill and use a phillips screwdriver to turn the Leveling Feet 10 Make sure that all parts are properly tightened before you use the treadmill Note Extra hardware may be included Keep the included allen wrenches in a secure place The large allen wrench is used to adjust the walking belt see page 27 To protect the floor or carpet place a mat under the treadmill If there are thin sheets of clear plastic on the decals remove them HOW TO USE THE CHEST PULSE SENSOR HOW TO PUT ON THE CHEST PULSE SENSOR The chest pulse sensor consists of two components the chest strap and the sensor unit see the drawing below Insert the tab on one end of the chest strap into one end of the sensor unit as shown in the inset draw ing Press the end of the sensor unit under the buckle on the chest strap The tab should be flush with the front of the sensor unit epo m 9 Sensor Unit Next wrap the chest pulse sen sor around your chest and attach the other end of the chest strap to the sensor unit Adjust the length of the chest strap if necessary The chest pulse sen sor should be under your clothes tight against your skin and as high under the pectoral muscles or breasts as is comfortable Make sure
13. them HOW TO USE PROGRAMS DIRECTLY FROM OUR WEB SITE To use programs from our Web site the treadmill must be connected to your home computer See HOW TO CONNECT YOUR COMPUTER on page 19 In addi tion you must have an internet connection and an in ternet service provider A list of specific system re quirements is found on our Web site Follow the steps below to use a program from our Web site 1 Insert the key into the console See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 13 A Select the iFIT com mode When the key is inserted the O manual mode will be se adf E lected To use a program from our Web site press the iFIT com button The iFIT com indi cator will light Go to your computer and start an internet connection Start your web browser if necessary and go to our Web site at www iFIT com Follow the desired links on our Web site to se lect a program Read and follow the on line instructions for using a program Follow the on line instructions to start the program When you start the program an on screen count down will begin Return to the treadmill and stand on the foot pads Find the clip attached to the key and slide the clip onto the waistband of your clothes 7 When the on screen countdown ends the program will begin and the walking belt will begin to move 22 Hold the handrails step onto the walking belt and begin walking During the pr

NUAL MODE 1 Insert the key fully into the console See HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER above 2 Select the manual mode When the key is in serted the manual mode will be selected To reselect the manual mode press the Program Select button repeatedly until a track appears in the matrix Make sure that the indicator on the iFIT com button is not lit 0000000 00000000900 Press the Start button or the Speed button to start the walking belt A moment after the button is pressed the walking belt will begin to move at 1 mph Hold the handrails and begin walking As you exercise change the speed of the walking belt as desired by pressing the Speed V and buttons Each time a SPEED MPH button is pressed the speed setting will change by 0 1 mph if a button is held down the speed setting will change in increments of 0 5 mph To change the speed setting quickly press the Quick Speed but tons Note The console can display speed and distance in either miles or kilometers For sim plicity all instructions in this section refer to miles To stop the walking belt press the Stop button The Time Pace display will begin to flash To restart the walking belt press the Start button or the Speed A button Note The first time the treadmill is used observe the alignment of the walking belt and align the walking belt if necessary see page 27 Change the incline of the treadmill as desired To change th

33. incline of the treadmill until your heart rate is near the highest number in your training zone WORKOUT GUIDELINES Each workout should include the following three parts A Warm up Start each workout with 5 to 10 minutes of stretching and light exercise A proper warm up in creases your body temperature heart rate and circula tion in preparation for exercise Training Zone Exercise After warming up increase the intensity of your exercise until your pulse is in your training zone for 20 to 60 minutes During the first few weeks of your exercise program do not keep your pulse in your training zone for longer than 20 minutes Breathe regularly and deeply as you exercise never hold your breath A Cool down Finish each workout with 5 to 10 min utes of stretching to cool down This will increase the flexibility of your muscles and will help prevent post exercise problems EXERCISE FREQUENCY To maintain or improve your condition complete three workouts each week with at least one day of rest be tween workouts After a few months you may com plete up to five workouts each week if desired The key to success is to make exercise a regular and enjoyable part of your everyday life SUGGESTED STRETCHES The correct form for several basic stretches is shown at the right Move slowly as you stretch never bounce 1 Toe Touch Stretch Stand with your knees bent slightly and slowly bend forward from your hips Allow your bac

41. n the following pages explain how the chest pulse sensor is used with the con sole If the chest pulse sensor does not function properly try the steps below Make sure that you are wearing the chest pulse sen Sor as described at the left Note If the chest pulse sensor does not function when positioned as de scribed move it slightly lower or higher on your chest Use saline solution such as saliva or contact lens solution to wet the two electrode areas on the sensor unit If heart rate readings do not appear until you begin perspiring re wet the electrode areas As you walk or run on the treadmill position your self near the center of the walking belt For the console to display heart rate readings the user must be within arm s length of the console The chest pulse sensor is designed to work with people who have normal heart rhythms Heart rate reading problems may be caused by medical conditions such as premature ventricular contrac tions pvcs tachycardia bursts and arrhythmia The operation of the chest pulse sensor can be affected by magnetic interference caused by high power lines or other sources If it is suspected that this is a problem try relocating the treadmill The CR2032 battery may need to be replaced see page 28 TREADMILL OPERATION THE PERFORMANT LUBE WALKING BELT Your treadmill features a walking belt coated with PERFORMANT LUBE a high performance lubricant IMPOR TANT Never apply si
