B156 109 The mid tones were decreased in brightness from around 122 to around 110 or about 10 darker We will have to ask Bill if that is what it looked like that cold night in Minnesota I suspect he made that trip out to take the picture soooo fast he won t be able to tell for sure if we got it right We will just claim that it is perfect You may think this technique is limited because you must know that something in the image is neutral Gray but white is a very common color in our images When we find it in the shade this technique is likely to work It might be a white shirt shaded by some other clothing or part of the person It might be a building in a landscape with some shade There are many examples When we cannot find anything neutral we need to go on to some other technique None of these tips work all the time You might try Warming Up or Cooling Down a Photo on page 140 of Scott Kelby s book The Photoshop Elements 5 Book for Digital Photographers In the Layers Pallet click the black white Circle Create Adjustment Layer and select Photo Filter In this shot you would use a Warming Filter 85 I tried it on this image setting the density to 75 which a bit overdid it but then after clicking OK adjusted the opacity of the layer to 84 and got pretty close Now you can adjust the lighting as you feel it is required with levels or some other technique As is so often the case with Elements

14. ership Report By Betty Burke Membership Chairperson I guess in simple terms the office entails keeping the club roster That part is easy The hard part is keeping the roster up to date That s where I m counting on each of you to help First off every member will be asked to fill out a form membership envelope with current information There are many of you who have changed phone numbers cell phone numbers and or e mail addresses since joining and an updated list is the only way to keep you informed of club activities Also if during the year you change information especially your e mail address please let me know You will also notice on the bottom of the membership envelope a place to sign up for various volunteer activities within the club I firmly believe this is a GREAT club and it will continue to be if everyone contributes Many of the clubs in SCG have a rule that volunteering is mandatory We don t have that rule in Grand Photos but in order to continue to have a great club we need full participation So get involved Let s make this a Grand Photo year Dues for 2008 are 20 00 per member plus 5 00 for a magnetic name tag if you don t have one The dues for a spouse are 10 00 plus 5 00 for the name tag if needed I will be collecting dues in January 2008 Looking forward to working with all of you Editor s Note IN FOCUS continues to grow This issue contains yet another new feature titled
