SNOOPER 51000 lt User manual SNOOPER 51000 Introduction Congratulations on buying the S1000 Portable Navigator and Fixed Speed Camera location system This user manual aims to provide you with installation and operating instructions for the S1000 The S1000 utilises the very latest Global Positioning Satellite GPS technology to provide you with accurate street level navigation via clear and precise voice prompts as well as alerting you to potentially hazardous stretches of road accident black spots and fixed speed safety cameras The most accurate digital mapping available is provided by NAVTE Q whilst the geographical coordinates of all fixed speed monitoring systems and many officially designated accident hotspots have been stored on a database provided by AURA The AURA Database is the most comprehensive available providing cover not only in the UK and Ireland but throughout Western Europe as well The database is constantly monitored and updated by the AURA data collection team ensuring that you are alerted to every potentially hazardous stretch of road and all fixed speed safety cameras AURA Camera amp Driving Hazard Database As the AURA camera database changes daily regular updates to your S1000 are required The 1000 connects quickly and easily to your PC so that you can download the database in a matter of minutes internet connection required Please note In order for th

No No No audible alert is emitted mute Agee Tone This function allows you to change the audible camera alert tone to either a Hard or a Soft tone To make your selection touch the relevant tick box with your finger 5 7 3 Cameras Smart Mute Alert Yes You can choose between the following options L Smart Mute lt E Yes The unit will only emit an audible tone if you are travelling above the speed limit of the fixed speed safety camera A T location No The unit will emit a warning irrespective of the speed of the vehicle the vehicle must be travelling above 20 mph A visual warning will always be given Return to contents 40 Auto Mute Yes The unit will provide an audible alert at your set audible level but will then reduce this alert to a lower level after a few seconds when you are approaching a safety camera No S1000 will continue to emit a tone at a constant audio level until the camera has been passed To make your selection touch the relevant tick box with your finger 5 7 4 school V You can choose between the following options Display Cameras Alert Sound Yes Provided you have selected the option to download schools on the S1000 updater software this feature enables the unit to alert you when you are near a primary school No The unit will not provide alerts of Primary schools Schools are indicated on the 1000 display by the AN icon Please

The S1000 will then save the data received The software will indicate that the download is complete and will instruct you to disconnect the 1000 from your PC Note The software will shut down automatically after 5 seconds if you do not disconnect your unit as instructed You only need to do these steps if you wish to change the data that is downloaded onto the 1000 If you want the download settings to be the same as the previous download ignore these two steps If you have a Firewall on your computer the Firewall software may inform you that the 1000 Updater software is trying to access the internet Please make sure that you grant allow permit access to the 1000 Updater program through the Firewall Please read the messages supplied by your Firewall software carefully before choosing your option If you do not allow the program to access the internet through the Firewall the download process will fail Please note Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista come with a built in firewall as standard SNOOPER 10 Return to contents Installing your 1000 The S1000 comes with a windscreen bracket so that the unit can be mounted onto your vehicles windscreen When installing your S1000 please ensure that O The unit with its built in GPS antenna has a clear view of the sky O It is located in a position where you can easily view the LCD display without having to take your eyes too far from the road ahead and that you can reach the

Set The destination stage will now appear in the multi route screen Press Add to enter additional destination stages Once you have entered all your destination stages press Save 3 6 2 Editing a Multi route If you wish to change the order or delete any of the stages in the multi route Press the centre of the display to enter the Navigate to menu Press the Multi route icon Press the name of the multi route destination you wish to edit Press one of the stages listed and some new options will appear near the bottom of the display gt To move the selected stage press the UP or Down arrow gt To delete the stage press the Bin icon gt To return to the stage list press the Return Arrow Note These functions only apply to the stage that you have selected To edit the other stages in the list press the Return Arrow in the bottom right hand corner of the screen and select the new stage Once you have made your desired changes press Save 3 6 3 Using the Multi route function To use a saved multi route Press the centre of the screen to enter the Navigate to menu Press the Multi route icon Press the name of the multi route destination you wish to use Press Calculate The 1000 will calculate the route to each destination stage and provide a new summary screen with the distance to each destination stage along with the estimated
10. and Cancel Press the OK button and ALL the recent destinations will be deleted 4 3 User Points This function can be used to edit or delete any or all user stored locations that you can store in the S1000 The unit has the facility of storing up to 100 user locations For further information on saving new coordinates please refer to the section Saving New User Points on page 40 SNOOPER 31 Return to contents 4 3 1 Editing user points Once a user point has been stored onto the 1000 the location requires editing so that the correct alert will be given when you approach the user stored coordinate To edit the user point Press the centre of the display to enter the Navigate to menu Press My Favourite at the top of the display Press the User Point icon Select the user point you wish to edit You can scroll through the list of user points by using the up down arrows located on the right hand side of the display The following screen is displayed information Of User Point Press Change to edit the selected User Point ADDRESS M56 gt Select the user point type that corresponds to the location To see more USER TYPE UNKNOWN types press the arrow on the display DIRECTION WEST LIMIT SPEED UNKNOWN Please Note If you select the user point type as SPECs the Specs num option becomes available This option is NOT availab

12. controls safely Does not interfere with the vehicles controls Does not jeopardise the drivers or passengers safety O You will be able to remove the device to perform downloads Please Note Some vehicles including Renault Citroen and Peugeot may come with a Heat Reflective Metal Oxide Athermic or Comfort windscreen which may affect the performance of the built in GPS antenna If you are unsure what type of windscreen is fitted to your vehicle then contact your local vehicle dealer or manufacturer for further information In these situations you will need to purchase an extension GPS antenna which can be positioned either on the rear parcel shelf or outside the cabin of the vehicle Call 01928 579 579 and select Option 2 for further details PLEASE NOTE Be careful to choose a location that does not block the drivers view or where it might endanger the driver or passengers should your vehicle suddenly come to a stop or be involved in an accident Installing your S1000 using the Windscreen Suction Cup bracket You can mount your S1000 to the inside of your vehicles windscreen using the windscreen bracket provided Clean the area where you wish to position the bracket thoroughly with a good quality glass cleaner This allows a more secure seal on the windscreen Place the suction cup and bracket on the windscreen and push the locking lever towards the windscreen to secure the bracket Adjust the angl

17. navigation Simulation to see the actual route that will be taken Route Option to change the parameters of the route or Guide which will list the turn by turn instructions of the journey The Summary Screen will tell you the distance to your destination estimated time of arrival and the estimated time it will take to complete your journey Please note The summary screen is only displayed for approximately 10 seconds before the unit automatically begins to provide you with turn by turn instructions If you wish to avoid several roads from the selected route calculated by the 1000 then this function allows you to re calculate a route over a user defined distance ranging from 1 mile up to a maximum of 100 miles To use this function Press the Avoid by range button the Select avoided range page will be displayed Select the distance of the range you wish to avoid using your finger If you wish to view more range distances then press the down arrow on the right hand side of the display Once you have selected the range you wish to avoid the 1000 will automatically re calculate your route Once the calculation is complete you can either press Go to start navigation Simulation to see the actual route that will be taken Route Option to change the parameters of the route or Guide which will list the turn by turn instructions of the journey The Summary Screen will tell y

19. personalised setting If you press the speaker icon aj you can turn off the audio on the unit completely A symbol is displayed in the top left hand corner of the display to indicate that the sound has been switched off To switch the sound back on press the screen near the top of the display and select the Volume Control icon Press either the speaker icon or the volume controls to restore audio on the unit WILMSLOW ROAD GSNO Return to contents 7 2 ot Map By pressing this icon you can manipulate the map by touching and moving your finger on the screen e 7 3 or Day or Night Settings Bright colours are normally used for the mapping display so that you can see the map more clearly even in bright sunlight When it is dark outside however you may want to switch to the Night Mode Si as the daytime setting will be too bright The navigation view will then be displayed using dark and subdued colours that will not interfere with your night vision Use Day to revert to the original colour scheme Please note If you switch the unit off and then back on the display reverts to your previous personalised setting Camera Alerts Only applicable if you have subscribed to the Enigma Camera Database This function allows you to temporarily disable the safety camera alerts If you press the camera icon o 4 you can turn the camera alert on or off A symbol is displayed in the top right hand corner of the display to

22. you have passed the fixed speed camera location the unit will reset ready to alert you to the next potential accident black spot To cancel an alert press the camera alert section of the screen the a denotes that the alert has been muted 9 2 Risk Zones The alert for a Risk Zone is the same as the Fixed Camera Alert 9 3 SPECs Safety Camera Systems Due to the fact that the SPECs camera incorporates a series of cameras that monitor a vehicles average speed over a fixed distance a different alert pattern has been devised to ensure that your concentration is maintained throughout the danger zone When approaching the first camera in the SPECs system your S1000 will begin to alert you at approximately 700 yards with a display indicating SPECS START and emitting an audible alert The display will indicate the speed limit at this point and then count down the remaining distance to the location of the camera The unit will then emit an audible alert and flash SPECS every few seconds to remind you that you are still within the SPECS system The 1000 will indicate the end of the SPEC s sequence by displaying SPECS END and emitting an audible alert If after thirty seconds you do not pass another camera for instance if you have turned off the road without passing the last camera in the SPEC s sequence the warning will no longer be displayed Please Note If you join a road in the middle of a SPECs series you will auto
23. 000 is powered using the cigarette lighter socket a Red LED will illuminate below a Blue LED on the left hand side of the unit When the battery is fully charged the Red LED will turn Blue 4 Press and hold the standby power button on the left hand side of the unit for two seconds to activate the device Please Note Do not leave your S1000 plugged into the cigarette lighter socket when you start your vehicle The cigarette lighter socket is prone to power surges as the vehicle is started and this may cause damage to your unit If the S1000 does not power up please check that the cigarette lighter socket is clean of any debris remembering not to insert metal objects into the socket Check that the cigarette lighter adaptor is inserted all the way into the socket and check that the fuse in the cigarette lighter adaptor is operational If your S1000 will still not power up please check that the cigarette lighter in your vehicle is functioning correctly Replacing the Fuse If the S1000 stops operating the fuse in the cigarette lighter plug may have blown the Green LED on the cigarette lighter plug will not be illuminated If it has blown follow these steps and replace it with a 3 amp 6 x 30mm fast acting fuse Caution Using a fuse that does not meet these ratings or defeating fuse protection can damage your unit the power cable or the vehicles electrical system 1 Grasp the ring near the tip of the cigarette lighter plug and then ca
24. 95 98 Millennium or Apple Macintosh operating systems Software Installation Instructions Place the Software CD into a CD ROM or DVD drive Your PC should automatically open a window displaying the instructions for installing the software Follow the instructions onscreen to install the download software To launch the CD manually Click on Start and then Run In the dialogue box that opens click on Browse another dialogue box will open Locate your CD ROM or DVD drive drive letter is normally D using the Look in option and select Menu from the lower portion of the dialogue box Once you have selected Menu click on Open on the explorer box and then OK on the Run dialogue box Please make sure that the operating system installs the new hardware Win 2K XP and Vista before installing the S1000 Updater software Once the S1000 Updater software has been installed click Finish and then close the CD auto run window After installing the software please re boot your PC Any later download software updates can be obtained from www snooperneo co uk If you have any problems using this software please call 01928 579 579 during office hours and select Option 3 Once the software is installed you are ready to download the database onto your S1000 The S1000 download software runs automatically in the background This is indicated by the symbol 9 o which can be located in the system tray in the bottom right hand corn

75. refully unscrew the ring by turning it counter clockwise Caution If you must use pliers to loosen the ring be careful not to crush the tip Never use pliers or other tools to retighten the ring on the cigarette lighter plug 2 Pull the ring straight out then remove the metal tip and old fuse 3 Check the fuse to see if it has blown If it has replace it 4 Replace the metal tip inside the ring then place the fuse inside the cigarette lighter plug and screw the ring back onto the plug Make sure the metal tip is visible when you reassemble the cigarette lighter plug Return to contents 12 Charging the internal battery Although the 1000 can be charged using the cigarette lighter in your vehicle a complete charge is more easily achieved by using the USB mains charger included When new the battery in your S1000 is approximately 20 charged Plug the USB charger cable into the USB socket on the 1000 To charge the unit fully move the Batt ON OFF switch to the OFF position and connect the USB mains charger as indicated in the picture on the right The battery light on the 1000 will illuminate and will take approximately 3 hours to charge When the internal battery is fully charged the red LED will turn blue Once fully charged the battery will last approximately 3 hrs during normal use Note The new battery s full performance is only achieved after two or three complete charges and discharges Plu
