5. re     2  For FXST and FLSTSB models  See Figure 6  Install  plug  17  in the fender hole left vacant after seat hardware  removal     For FLSTC F FB N models  Remove the large plastic  retaining washers from stud bracket  Do not remove stud  bracket  Secure stud bracket with four flat washers  part  no  6235 or equivalent washer stack with a minimum 0 10  in  2 5 mm  thickness  and the previously removed nuts   part no  3633       J05041    For FXS models     a     See Figure 6  Install plug  17  in the fender hole left  vacant after seat hardware removal  Do not remove  the grabstrap mounting hardware in the fender     Disconnect ECM harness and remove ECM  Follow  instructions in service manual     See Figure 1  If equipped with  tall tower  ECM caddy   follow steps 2 d through 2 h  If not equipped with a  tall tower ECM caddy  skip to Step 3     Remove ECM caddy following instructions in service  manual     See Figure 1  Put ECM caddy on a firm surface and  placea straight edge  2  across ECM caddy  3   Mark  or scribe the taller tower  1  underneath the straight   edge     See Figure 2  Measure from first scribed line  1  and  mark or scribe a line 0 12 in  3 mm   2  upward from  initial mark     Cut the top of the tower with a hack saw or similar  tool     Clean debris from tower and put the ECM caddy into  position  but do not fasten into place at this time   Install ECM but do not connect harness at this time           is07038       1  Tall tower  2  Straight edge  3 
6. supplied hardware  to press the bushings as follows     a  Install two bushing into the pivot block  3  and secure  with screw  1   pivot sleeve  4   washers  2  and nut     6      b  Tighten nut to seat bushings until there is face contact  with the pivot block     c  Remove  nut  screw  pivot sleeve and washers and  save for later installation     See Figure 3  Apply Loctite 243  blue  to the threads of  screws  item 8  Figure 6   Install the pivot block to the  screw holes  3  with the screws  Tighten screws to 90 110  in lbs  10 12 Nm      Remove and discard screws  4   if equipped     FLST C N Models  Install clip nut for upper cover installa   tion     a  Using a drill  enlarge hole  1  to a diameter of 9 32    5 16 in  7  8 mm      b  Apply paint to any metal exposed during drilling to  prevent corrosion     c  Install clip nut  item 22  Figure 6  over the sheet metal  edge of the ECM bracket and align holes     FLST C N models  See Figure 6  Apply Loctite 243  blue   to the threads of screws  15   Install seat mount bracket   14   two screws  15  and two spacers  16   Tighten screws  to 96 120 in Ibs  11 13 Nm      All other models  See Figure 6  Apply Loctite 243  blue   to the threads of screws  15   Install seat mount bracket   14  and two screws  15  over the mount flange of the  ECM caddy and fasten to frame  Tighten screws to 96 120  in Ibs  11 13 Nm      See Figure 3  Connect the ECM connector  7  and rear  tail lamp connectors  2      2 of 4    NOTES  When ins
7. talling the lower frame cover  secure any remaining  right side ground cables between the harness retaining bracket  and frame     Move harnesses as necessary to allow frame covers to mount  without interference  The ribs on the underside of the lower  frame cover should rest on the battery without pinching the  harness     12  See Figure 6  Install lower frame cover  18  and the previ   ously saved right side ground screw  Tighten screw to  60 90 in Ibs  7 10 Nm      13  Install upper frame cover  19  20  21 or 24  over the ECM   Orient the cover so that the lower tab fits into the slot of  the lower frame cover  Secure with screw  23   Tighten  screw to 60 90 in Ibs  7 10 Nm      Assemble Spring Seat    1  See Figure 5  Place seat  1  upside down on a clean sur   face     2  Install screw  3  and spring  2   Do not tighten  Repeat for  opposite side     3  Orient the springs so they are parallel with each other and  the seat  Verify that the springs are seated against the  metal seat pan under the edge of the leather  Tighten  screws to 25 30 ft lbs  84 41 Nm      4  Install seat pivot bracket  4   washers  5  and screws  6   to the seat  The bracket will sit on top of the leather at the  front of the seat  Center the screws in bracket slots  then  alternately tighten screws to 48 72 in lbs  5 5 8 0 Nm       J05041       is06403       Seat   Spring  2    Screw  1 2 13 x 1 in  2    Pivot bracket   Washer  1 4 in ID x 3 4 in OD  3           DRO N a    Screw  1 4 20 x 1 2 in
