1. attached manual it is impossible to take into account every eventuality that may arise with technical equipment in service Please consult an ASTS USA local sales representative in the event of any irregularities with our product ASTS USA expressly disclaims liability resulting from any improper handling or use of our equipment even if these instructions contain no specific indication in this respect We strongly recommend that only approved ASTS USA spare parts are used as replacements Revision History February 2009 Initial Issue SM 5C3 0001 Rev 1 February 2009 1 D y Electronic Highway Crossing Bell AnsaldoSTS 1 INTRODUCTION The electronic highway crossing bell is a solid state electronic bell that was designed using requirements taken from AREMA manual part 3 2 6 1 Recommended Design Criteria for an Electronic Highway Rail Grade Crossing Bell Reaffirmed 2000 Two versions are available Model OB 1 is omnidirectional and broadcasts in a 360 degree pattern Model UB 1 is unidirectional and broadcasts in a 180 degree pattern Both models will mount on a 4 or 5 inch mast Electrical connections are made to standard AAR binding posts The bell contains no user serviceable parts and should be returned to the ASTS USA Service Center for repair 2 SPECIFICATIONS FCC Part 15 Compliant Environmental per AREMA C amp S manual 11 5 1 Class B Vibration and Shock per ASTS USA spec EU 7997 Class B OB 1 Sound Pressure Leve2. l 75 dBA minimum 105 dBA maximum 10 feet Measured in a 360 degree plane around the perimeter of the housing Operating Power 12 volts de 3 volts less than 0 5 Amps Impulses 100 to 325 per minute Mast Mounting 4 or 5 inch mast 3 INSTALLATION Proceed as follows to install the OB 1 and UB 1 units NOTE The units are designed for direct current DC operation only 1 Connect the 12 volt positive lead from the power source to the AAR terminal labeled 12V on the bottom of the unit 2 Connect the negative ground lead from the power source to the AAR terminal labeled on the bottom of the unit 3 Position the unit on the mast 2 SM 5C3 0001 Rev 1 February 2009 N 4 AnsaldoSTS Electronic Highway Crossing Bell 4 Orient the UB 1 unit so that the screened opening is facing in the direction in which the sound is to be directed The OB 1 unit does not need to be orientated 5 Securely tighten the three screws that are located on the mounting base 6 Tighten the nuts securely to the base and ensure that the lock washers are fully compressed 4 TECHNICAL SUPPORT The Rapid Action Information Link Team RAIL Team is a group of experienced product and application engineers ready to assist you to resolve any technical issues concerning this product Contact the RAIL Team at 1 800 652 7276 or by e mail at railteam ansaldo sts us SM 5C3 0001 Rev 1 February 2009 3 N Be Elect
