3. closest friends We have to make a conscious decision about what form of communication works best for each us Maybe we need multiple forms each making the best use of our ever decreasing personal time personally find E Mail is best for business and general questions The cell phone is best for emergencies family and friends For the record am not on FaceBook do not TWITTER and do not have TEXT service on my phone If you have my cell phone number do not mind you calling me As an organization we have to ask the same question what form of communication best serves the needs of our members Should we establish a phone chain where call Lou and 4 other people and then Lou calls 5 people and so on What if they don t answer because their caller ID tells them it s me for one think it s too complicated to count my characters to stay under the 144 allowed for TWITTER besides anyone that knows me is well aware that cannot say anything with only 144 characters That leaves Snail Mail or E Mail Snail Mail costs money and takes time besides licking each envelope adds 3 to 5 calories That leaves E Mail or Mental Telepathy and haven t been able to get that to work for me Going back a few years we had monthly meetings and very little else We occasionally mailed something and then started using E Mail but not everyone had it Our meetings were well attended because that was the best communication we had Tech

7. es From the tally it was clear that the membership wanted to retain the multiple show social event agenda 9 of the 9 groups received a few suggestions about more social on water events namely some sandbar time as well as a trip to Lake Kinkaid ILL also received a suggestion that perhaps the Festival of the Little Hills should be changed to every 2 years due to the large number of resources and being in the prime of the boating season All good suggestions but in the end we need club support and Captains for each of these events Please let Forrest or Lou know if you would be willing to work with Forrest on one or more of the events am willing to keep the lead on the Festival if the membership decides to keep it on the schedule recommend that we approach the final events calendar as follows 1 We proceed with the St Louis Dome Show February 26 to March 2 as planned Please respond to Forrest s requests for help as soon as possible We approach the Lake St Louis Board with May 03rd as the show date with May 10 as the back up This show is important to give us all a chance to get that first run of the season in as close to home and with as much help as possible The Antique Outboard Club has also expressed interest in this show which greatly enhances our technical support Please give us your thoughts here Mid May to Mid June is generally a busy time with graduation parties making it difficult t
8. he national ACBS website for a number of years keeping it current has been a challenge As a result it currently does not portray a good visual impression of our organization If we elect to maintain a website we have got to keep it up to date The up side is obvious the down side is that a website can cost money and for sure takes time but fortunately no calories Lou and Tony will present all of this information to you at the meeting So we have a lot to talk about in the February Round Table e Should E Mail be our primary form of communication next to the spoken word at the monthly meetings e Providing we can schedule the major activities early in the year is the 3 month look ahead calendar enough for coordinating activities e Should we retain the newsletters If so what should be in them e Should we do less E Mailing and just post information on a Web site so everyone can go get it at their leisure e Are my 144 characters used up yet See you at the meeting Next meeting location Miss Sheri s Cafeteria We are on for our next meeting at Miss Sheri s Cafeteria 9967 Manchester Rd Warson Woods MO 314 968 9995 Directions from the west take Hwy 40 64 or Hwy 70 East to Lindbergh Blvd Turn right going South to Manchester Rd Turn left going East to 9967 Manchester MISS SHERIE S now be HAPPY If you should be coming from the east take Hwy 40 64 or hwy 70 West to Lindbergh Blvd Turn left going South to M

10. nology presents some good with the bad E Mail is immediate and yet not disruptive or demanding If you are busy wait to respond when you have the time Seldom is our need to communicate immediate The only downside is losing the E Mail and having no means of locating it My belief is that once the monthly meetings become automatic the majority of our communication needs will solve themselves A monthly newsletter to report the goings on to those who could not make the meeting with a nifty 3 month look ahead calendar similar to what Tony sent with the last newsletter will take care of most of our needs But then how do we display our treasures and hard work for those that might be interested in joining our group For this we need a Web Site Websites can be very public or public and private requiring passwords for access to sensitive information We can develop ours to handle all of the communication we need and then some Fortunately we have members like Al Benton and Grant MacLaren to help us with this pg 2 For those of you not familiar with Al Benton Al isa member of the Chris Craft Antique Boat Club Board of Directors a well published author of antique boat articles and was instrumental in establishing the original website Likewise Grant has several websites under his belt and created his own website for the MVC when our original site became outdated Visit Grant s MVC website at www mvcacbs com While we have had a space on t
11. nother one that we would greatly appreciate some input from membership on pg 2 7 September is the Quincy Boat Show am working to confirm the dates This is a special event for the cruisers because it gives us an excuse to take a week to attend a 2 1 2 day show Following the numerous failures trying to have a sizable show on Pool 26 the last few years we have poured our efforts into making Quincy our flagship Unfortunately it is a long way from St Louis thus expensive for the smaller boats hotels meals etc would like to keep this one on the list if for no other reason than the local people and their effort to make us welcome Please give us your thoughts 8 The first weekend in October was the End of the Season Evening at Aggies s Unfortunately this one is beyond our control Aggies s is closing in March as her building has been sold This was a great time to have a drink and dinner with friends around the fire pit and tell tales about our boating season Should we try to replace it If so give us some suggestions TANK A DEEP BREATH ONLY 2 TO GO 9 The Fall Classic Cruise we have tentatively scheduled this for October 18 This has always been a well attended member s only event and would like to see it remain on the calendar While it is always weather dependant for small boaters we consistently have 35 to 45 people come thanks to the cruisers and drive ins We will be looking for a destination through the s
